1หากองค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าไม่ได้ทรงสร้างบ้าน
ผู้สร้างลงแรงไปก็เหนื่อยเปล่า
หากองค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าไม่ได้ทรงพิทักษ์รักษานคร
คนยามยืนเฝ้าอยู่ก็เหนื่อยเปล่า
2เป็นการเหนื่อยเปล่าที่ท่านลุกขึ้นแต่เช้ามืด
ทำงานจนดึกดื่น
ตรากตรำเพื่อปากเพื่อท้อง
เพราะพระเจ้าทรงให้ผู้ที่พระองค์ทรงรักหลับสบาย127:2 หรือเพราะขณะที่เขาหลับอยู่ พระองค์ทรงจัดเตรียมให้
3บุตรทั้งหลายเป็นมรดกจากองค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้า
บุตรหลานเป็นบำเหน็จจากพระองค์
4บุตรที่เกิดแก่คนหนุ่มฉกรรจ์
เป็นเหมือนลูกศรในมือนักรบ
5ความสุขมีแก่
ผู้ที่มีลูกธนูอยู่เต็มแล่ง
เขาจะไม่ต้องอับอาย
เมื่อขับเคี่ยวกับศัตรูที่ประตูเมือง
