คำเตือนและคำให้กำลังใจ
(มธ.10:26-33)
1ขณะนั้นเมื่อประชาชนหลายพันคนมาชุมนุมเบียดเสียดกันอยู่ พระเยซูทรงเริ่มตรัสกับเหล่าสาวกของพระองค์ว่า “จงระวัง เชื้อของพวกฟาริสี คือความหน้าซื่อใจคด 2ไม่มีสิ่งใดที่ถูกปิดบังไว้จะไม่ได้รับการเปิดเผย หรือที่ซ่อนไว้ซึ่งจะไม่ถูกทำให้ประจักษ์แจ้ง 3สิ่งที่ท่านกล่าวในที่มืดจะได้ยินในที่แจ้ง และสิ่งที่ท่านกระซิบใส่หูในห้องชั้นในจะถูกป่าวประกาศจากหลังคาบ้าน
4“เพื่อนเอ๋ย เราบอกท่านว่า อย่ากลัวผู้ที่ฆ่าได้แต่กาย แล้วหลังจากนั้นก็ทำอะไรไม่ได้อีก 5แต่เราจะบอกให้ว่าท่านควรกลัวผู้ใด จงเกรงกลัวพระองค์ผู้ทรงมีฤทธิ์อำนาจที่จะโยนท่านลงนรกหลังจากได้ฆ่ากายของท่านแล้ว ใช่ เราบอกท่านว่าจงเกรงกลัวพระองค์ 6นกกระจาบขายกันห้าตัวสองบาท12:6 ภาษากรีกว่า2 อัสซาริอัน ไม่ใช่หรือ? ถึงกระนั้นก็ไม่มีสักตัวที่พระเจ้าทรงลืม 7อันที่จริงผมทุกเส้นบนศีรษะของท่านก็ทรงนับทั้งหมดไว้แล้ว อย่ากลัวเลย ท่านมีค่ายิ่งกว่านกกระจาบหลายตัว
8“เราบอกท่านว่าผู้ใดยอมรับเราต่อหน้ามนุษย์ บุตรมนุษย์จะยอมรับผู้นั้นต่อหน้าเหล่าทูตสวรรค์ของพระเจ้าเช่นกัน 9แต่ผู้ที่ไม่ยอมรับเราต่อหน้ามนุษย์ ก็จะไม่ได้รับการยอมรับต่อหน้าเหล่าทูตสวรรค์ของพระเจ้า 10และทุกคนที่กล่าวร้ายบุตรมนุษย์ จะทรงอภัยให้ แต่ผู้ใดหมิ่นประมาทพระวิญญาณบริสุทธิ์ จะไม่ทรงอภัยให้
11“เมื่อท่านถูกนำตัวไปไต่สวนในธรรมศาลาและถูกนำตัวไปอยู่ต่อหน้าผู้ปกครองและผู้ทรงอำนาจ อย่าวิตกกังวลว่าท่านจะแก้ต่างให้กับตนเองอย่างไรหรือจะพูดอะไร 12เพราะในเวลานั้นพระวิญญาณบริสุทธิ์จะทรงสอนท่านว่าท่านควรพูดอะไร”
คำอุปมาเรื่องเศรษฐีโง่
13คนหนึ่งในฝูงชนทูลพระองค์ว่า “ท่านอาจารย์เจ้าข้า ช่วยบอกพี่ชายของข้าพเจ้าให้แบ่งมรดกแก่ข้าพเจ้าด้วย”
14พระเยซูตรัสตอบว่า “พ่อหนุ่มเอ๋ย ใครตั้งเราให้เป็นตุลาการหรือเป็นผู้แบ่งสมบัติให้เจ้า?” 15แล้วพระองค์ตรัสกับเขาทั้งหลายว่า “จงระวังให้ดี! จงระวังตนจากความโลภทุกชนิด ชีวิตคนเราไม่ได้อยู่ที่การมีทรัพย์สิ่งของเหลือเฟือ”
16และพระองค์ตรัสคำอุปมานี้แก่พวกเขาว่า “ที่ดินของเศรษฐีคนหนึ่งให้พืชผลอุดมสมบูรณ์ 17เขาคิดในใจว่า ‘เราจะทำอย่างไรดี? เราไม่มีที่ที่จะเก็บพืชผล’
18“แล้วเขากล่าวว่า ‘เราจะทำอย่างนี้ คือรื้อยุ้งฉางของเรา แล้วสร้างให้ใหญ่ขึ้นจะได้เอาไว้เก็บพืชผลและข้าวของทุกอย่าง 19จากนั้นเราก็จะบอกตัวเองว่า “เจ้ามีของดีมากมายเก็บไว้พอสำหรับหลายปี ใช้ชีวิตให้สบาย กินดื่ม และรื่นเริงเถิด” ’
20“แต่พระเจ้าตรัสกับเขาว่า ‘เจ้าคนโง่! คืนนี้ชีวิตของเจ้าจะถูกเรียกคืนจากเจ้า แล้วใครเล่าจะเป็นผู้ที่ได้รับสิ่งที่เจ้าเตรียมไว้สำหรับตัวเอง?’
21“ผู้ใดสะสมสิ่งของไว้สำหรับตนแต่ไม่ได้มั่งมีต่อหน้าพระเจ้าก็เป็นเช่นนี้”
อย่าวิตกกังวล
(มธ.6:25-33)
22แล้วพระเยซูตรัสกับเหล่าสาวกว่า “เพราะฉะนั้นเราบอกท่านว่า อย่าวิตกกังวลเกี่ยวกับชีวิตของท่านว่าจะเอาอะไรกิน หรือพะวงเกี่ยวกับร่างกายของท่านว่าจะเอาอะไรนุ่งห่ม 23ชีวิตมีค่ายิ่งกว่าอาหาร และร่างกายมีค่ายิ่งกว่าเครื่องนุ่งห่ม 24จงพิจารณาดูนกกา มันไม่ได้หว่าน ไม่ได้เกี่ยว ไม่มีที่เก็บของ ไม่มียุ้งฉาง กระนั้นพระเจ้าก็ทรงเลี้ยงดูนกกาเหล่านี้ และท่านก็มีค่ายิ่งกว่านกมากนัก! 25ใครบ้างในพวกท่านที่กังวลแล้วต่ออายุตัวเองให้ยืนยาวออกไปอีกสักชั่วโมงหนึ่งได้?12:25 หรือเพิ่มความสูงของตนอีกสักศอกหนึ่งได้? 26ในเมื่อเรื่องเล็กน้อยแค่นี้ท่านยังทำไม่ได้ แล้วท่านจะกังวลเรื่องอื่นๆ ไปทำไม?
27“จงพิจารณาว่าดอกไม้เติบโตขึ้นอย่างไร มันไม่ได้ลงแรงหรือปั่นด้าย กระนั้นเราบอกท่านว่า แม้แต่กษัตริย์โซโลมอน เมื่อทรงบริบูรณ์ด้วยความโอ่อ่าตระการ ยังไม่ได้ทรงเครื่องงามสง่าเท่าดอกไม้เหล่านี้สักดอกหนึ่ง 28ในเมื่อพระเจ้าทรงตกแต่งหญ้าในท้องทุ่งถึงเพียงนี้ หญ้าซึ่งอยู่ที่นี่วันนี้และพรุ่งนี้ก็จะถูกโยนลงในไฟ โอ ท่านผู้มีความเชื่อน้อย! พระองค์จะไม่ทรงตกแต่งท่านมากยิ่งกว่านั้นหรือ? 29และอย่าใจจดใจจ่อว่าท่านจะเอาอะไรกินเอาอะไรดื่ม อย่ากังวลไปเลย 30เพราะคนไม่มีพระเจ้าทั่วโลกต่างขวนขวายหาสิ่งเหล่านี้ และพระบิดาของท่านทรงทราบว่าท่านจำเป็นต้องมีสิ่งเหล่านี้ 31แต่จงแสวงหาอาณาจักรของพระเจ้า แล้วพระองค์จะประทานสิ่งทั้งปวงเหล่านี้ให้แก่ท่านด้วย
32“แกะฝูงน้อยเอ๋ย อย่ากลัวเลย เพราะพระบิดาของท่านทรงพอพระทัยที่จะประทานอาณาจักรนั้นแก่ท่าน 33จงขายทรัพย์สินของท่านและบริจาคแก่คนยากไร้ จงจัดเตรียมถุงเงินที่ไม่มีวันฉีกขาดไว้ให้ตนเอง คือทรัพย์สมบัติในสวรรค์ซึ่งไม่รู้จักหมดสิ้น ในที่ซึ่งไม่มีขโมยมาเฉียดใกล้ และไม่มีมอดแมลงมาทำลาย 34เพราะทรัพย์สมบัติของท่านอยู่ที่ไหน ใจของท่านก็อยู่ที่นั่นด้วย
จงเฝ้าระวังอยู่
(มธ.24:43-51; 25:1-13; มก.13:33-37)
35“จงแต่งกายให้พร้อมที่จะรับใช้ และดูแลให้บรรดาตะเกียงของท่านส่องสว่างอยู่ 36เหมือนคนงานผู้คอยรับนายของตนซึ่งจะกลับจากงานเลี้ยงฉลองพิธีแต่งงาน เพื่อเมื่อนายกลับมาเคาะประตู เขาจะเปิดประตูรับนายได้ทันที 37เป็นการดีสำหรับคนรับใช้เหล่านั้นที่นายกลับมาแล้วพบว่าพวกเขาเฝ้าคอยอยู่ เราบอกความจริงแก่ท่านว่า นายจะแต่งกายของตนให้พร้อมที่จะรับใช้ และให้คนรับใช้เหล่านั้นนั่งรับประทานอาหารที่โต๊ะ แล้วนายจะมาคอยปรนนิบัติ 38เป็นการดีสำหรับคนรับใช้เหล่านั้นที่นายพบว่าพวกเขาพร้อมอยู่ แม้ว่านายจะมาตอนสองยามหรือสามยามของคืนนั้น 39แต่จงเข้าใจข้อนี้ คือหากเจ้าของบ้านล่วงรู้ว่าขโมยจะมาเวลาไหน เขาย่อมไม่ปล่อยให้ใครบุกเข้ามาในบ้านได้ 40พวกท่านก็ต้องเตรียมพร้อมไว้เช่นกัน เพราะบุตรมนุษย์จะมาในยามที่ท่านไม่คาดคิด”
41เปโตรทูลว่า “พระองค์เจ้าข้า พระองค์ตรัสคำอุปมานี้กับพวกข้าพระองค์หรือกับทุกคน?”
42องค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าตรัสตอบว่า “ใครเป็นคนต้นเรือนที่สัตย์ซื่อและฉลาด ซึ่งนายตั้งให้ดูแลคนรับใช้เพื่อคอยแจกจ่ายอาหารให้พวกเขาตามเวลา? 43เป็นการดีสำหรับคนรับใช้ผู้นั้นเมื่อนายกลับมาพบว่าเขาทำตามหน้าที่ 44เราบอกความจริงแก่ท่านว่า นายจะตั้งเขาให้ดูแลทรัพย์สินทั้งปวงของนาย 45แต่ถ้าเขาคิดในใจว่า ‘อีกนานกว่านายของเราจะกลับมา’ เขาจึงเริ่มทุบตีเพื่อนคนรับใช้ชายหญิงและกินดื่มเมามาย 46นายของคนรับใช้ผู้นั้นจะกลับมาในวันที่เขาไม่คาดคิด และในเวลาที่เขาไม่รู้ตัว นายจะสับเขาเป็นชิ้นๆ และส่งเขาไปอยู่ในที่ของคนที่ไม่เชื่อ
47“คนรับใช้ที่รู้ใจนายแล้วไม่เตรียมพร้อมและทำตามความประสงค์ของนายจะถูกเฆี่ยนอย่างหนัก 48ส่วนคนที่ไม่รู้และทำสิ่งที่ควรแก่การลงโทษย่อมจะถูกเฆี่ยนน้อย ทุกคนที่ได้รับมากจะถูกเรียกร้องมาก และคนที่ได้รับมอบหมายไว้มากจะถูกเรียกร้องมากยิ่งกว่า
ไม่ใช่สันติสุขแต่เป็นการแบ่งแยก
(มธ.10:34-36)
49“เรามาเพื่อนำไฟมาสู่โลก และเราปรารถนาอย่างยิ่งที่จะให้ไฟนั้นจุดขึ้นแล้ว! 50แต่เราจะต้องผ่านบัพติศมาอย่างหนึ่ง และเราเป็นทุกข์ยิ่งนักจนกว่าบัพติศมานั้นจะสำเร็จครบถ้วน! 51ท่านคิดว่าเรามาเพื่อนำสันติภาพมาสู่โลกหรือ? เปล่าเลย เราขอบอกว่าเรานำการแบ่งแยกมาต่างหาก 52นับแต่นี้ไป ในครอบครัวหนึ่ง ห้าคนจะแตกแยกกัน สามต่อสองหรือสองต่อสาม 53พวกเขาจะแตกแยกกัน พ่อจะแตกแยกกับลูกชาย และลูกชายจะแตกแยกกับพ่อ แม่จะแตกแยกกับลูกสาว และลูกสาวจะแตกแยกกับแม่ แม่สามีจะแตกแยกกับลูกสะใภ้ และลูกสะใภ้จะแตกแยกกับแม่สามี”
เข้าใจยุคสมัย
54พระองค์ตรัสกับฝูงชนว่า “เมื่อท่านเห็นเมฆลอยขึ้นทางทิศตะวันตก ท่านก็บอกทันทีว่า ‘ฝนจะตก’ และฝนก็ตก 55และเมื่อลมใต้พัดมา ท่านบอกว่า ‘อากาศจะร้อน’ และก็เป็นเช่นนั้น 56เจ้าพวกหน้าซื่อใจคด! เจ้ารู้ว่าลักษณะของดินฟ้าอากาศหมายความว่าอย่างไร? แล้วทำไมเจ้าไม่รู้ว่าสิ่งที่เกิดขึ้นในปัจจุบันหมายความว่าอย่างไร?
57“เหตุใดท่านจึงไม่ตัดสินเองว่าอะไรถูกต้อง? 58ขณะท่านกับคู่ความไปพบผู้พิพากษา จงขวนขวายหาทางตกลงกับเขาให้ได้ระหว่างทาง มิฉะนั้น เขาจะลากท่านไปพบผู้พิพากษา และผู้พิพากษาจะมอบตัวท่านแก่เจ้าหน้าที่ และเจ้าหน้าที่จะจับท่านเข้าคุก 59เราบอกท่านว่า ท่านจะออกจากที่นั่นไม่ได้จนกว่าจะใช้หนี้ครบถ้วนทุกบาททุกสตางค์12:59 ภาษากรีกว่าเลฟตัน”
Warnings and encouragements
1Meanwhile, when a crowd of many thousands had gathered, so that they were trampling on one another, Jesus began to speak first to his disciples, saying: ‘Be12:1 Or speak to his disciples, saying: ‘First of all, be on your guard against the yeast of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy. 2There is nothing concealed that will not be disclosed, or hidden that will not be made known. 3What you have said in the dark will be heard in the daylight, and what you have whispered in the ear in the inner rooms will be proclaimed from the roofs.
4‘I tell you, my friends, do not be afraid of those who kill the body and after that can do no more. 5But I will show you whom you should fear: fear him who, after your body has been killed, has authority to throw you into hell. Yes, I tell you, fear him. 6Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one of them is forgotten by God. 7Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.
8‘I tell you, whoever publicly acknowledges me before others, the Son of Man will also acknowledge before the angels of God. 9But whoever disowns me before others will be disowned before the angels of God. 10And everyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but anyone who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven.
11‘When you are brought before synagogues, rulers and authorities, do not worry about how you will defend yourselves or what you will say, 12for the Holy Spirit will teach you at that time what you should say.’
The parable of the rich fool
13Someone in the crowd said to him, ‘Teacher, tell my brother to divide the inheritance with me.’
14Jesus replied, ‘Man, who appointed me a judge or an arbiter between you?’ 15Then he said to them, ‘Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; life does not consist in an abundance of possessions.’
16And he told them this parable: ‘The ground of a certain rich man yielded an abundant harvest. 17He thought to himself, “What shall I do? I have no place to store my crops.”
18‘Then he said, “This is what I’ll do. I will tear down my barns and build bigger ones, and there I will store my surplus grain. 19And I’ll say to myself, ‘You have plenty of grain laid up for many years. Take life easy; eat, drink and be merry.’ ”
20‘But God said to him, “You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you. Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself?”
21‘This is how it will be with whoever stores up things for themselves but is not rich towards God.’
Do not worry
22Then Jesus said to his disciples: ‘Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat; or about your body, what you will wear. 23For life is more than food, and the body more than clothes. 24Consider the ravens: they do not sow or reap, they have no storeroom or barn; yet God feeds them. And how much more valuable you are than birds! 25Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to your life12:25 Or single cubit to your height? 26Since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about the rest?
27‘Consider how the wild flowers grow. They do not labour or spin. Yet I tell you, not even Solomon in all his splendour was dressed like one of these. 28If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today, and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, how much more will he clothe you – you of little faith! 29And do not set your heart on what you will eat or drink; do not worry about it. 30For the pagan world runs after all such things, and your Father knows that you need them. 31But seek his kingdom, and these things will be given to you as well.
32‘Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father has been pleased to give you the kingdom. 33Sell your possessions and give to the poor. Provide purses for yourselves that will not wear out, a treasure in heaven that will never fail, where no thief comes near and no moth destroys. 34For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
Watchfulness
35‘Be dressed ready for service and keep your lamps burning, 36like servants waiting for their master to return from a wedding banquet, so that when he comes and knocks they can immediately open the door for him. 37It will be good for those servants whose master finds them watching when he comes. Truly I tell you, he will dress himself to serve, will make them recline at the table and will come and wait on them. 38It will be good for those servants whose master finds them ready, even if he comes in the middle of the night or towards daybreak. 39But understand this: if the owner of the house had known at what hour the thief was coming, he would not have let his house be broken into. 40You also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him.’
41Peter asked, ‘Lord, are you telling this parable to us, or to everyone?’
42The Lord answered, ‘Who then is the faithful and wise manager, whom the master puts in charge of his servants to give them their food allowance at the proper time? 43It will be good for that servant whom the master finds doing so when he returns. 44Truly I tell you, he will put him in charge of all his possessions. 45But suppose the servant says to himself, “My master is taking a long time in coming,” and he then begins to beat the other servants, both men and women, and to eat and drink and get drunk. 46The master of that servant will come on a day when he does not expect him and at an hour he is not aware of. He will cut him to pieces and assign him a place with the unbelievers.
47‘The servant who knows the master’s will and does not get ready or does not do what the master wants will be beaten with many blows. 48But the one who does not know and does things deserving punishment will be beaten with few blows. From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked.
Not peace but division
49‘I have come to bring fire on the earth, and how I wish it were already kindled! 50But I have a baptism to undergo, and what constraint I am under until it is completed! 51Do you think I came to bring peace on earth? No, I tell you, but division. 52From now on there will be five in one family divided against each other, three against two and two against three. 53They will be divided, father against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against mother, mother-in-law against daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against mother-in-law.’
Interpreting the times
54He said to the crowd: ‘When you see a cloud rising in the west, immediately you say, “It’s going to rain,” and it does. 55And when the south wind blows, you say, “It’s going to be hot,” and it is. 56Hypocrites! You know how to interpret the appearance of the earth and the sky. How is it that you don’t know how to interpret this present time?
57‘Why don’t you judge for yourselves what is right? 58As you are going with your adversary to the magistrate, try hard to be reconciled on the way, or your adversary may drag you off to the judge, and the judge turn you over to the officer, and the officer throw you into prison. 59I tell you, you will not get out until you have paid the last penny.’
