พันธสัญญาแห่งการเข้าสุหนัต
1เมื่ออับรามอายุ 99 ปี องค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าทรงปรากฏแก่เขาและตรัสว่า “เราคือพระเจ้าผู้ทรงฤทธิ์ จงดำเนินชีวิตอยู่ในทางของเราและเป็นคนดีพร้อม 2เราจะทำพันธสัญญาระหว่างเรากับเจ้า และจะทวีจำนวนพงศ์พันธุ์ของเจ้าอย่างมากมาย”
3อับรามจึงหมอบกราบซบหน้าลงและพระเจ้าตรัสกับเขาว่า 4“สำหรับเรา นี่คือพันธสัญญาของเรากับเจ้า คือเจ้าจะเป็นบิดาของชนชาติต่างๆ 5เขาจะไม่เรียกเจ้าว่าอับราม17:5 แปลว่าบิดาผู้ได้รับการยกย่องอีกต่อไป เจ้าจะมีชื่อว่าอับราฮัม17:5 แปลว่าบิดาของคนมากมาย เพราะเราได้ให้เจ้าเป็นบิดาของชนชาติต่างๆ 6เราจะให้เจ้ามีลูกมีหลานมากมาย เราจะให้หลายชนชาติเกิดขึ้นมาจากเจ้า และกษัตริย์หลายองค์จะสืบเชื้อสายจากเจ้า 7เราจะสถาปนาพันธสัญญาของเราไว้ เป็นพันธสัญญานิรันดร์ระหว่างเรากับเจ้า และกับลูกหลานของเจ้าทุกชั่วอายุที่จะตามมา เป็นพันธสัญญาว่าเราจะเป็นพระเจ้าของเจ้า และจะเป็นพระเจ้าของลูกหลานของเจ้าที่จะเกิดมาภายหลัง 8เราจะยกดินแดนคานาอันทั้งหมด คือที่เจ้าอาศัยอยู่อย่างคนต่างด้าวในขณะนี้ ให้เป็นกรรมสิทธิ์นิรันดร์ของเจ้ากับลูกหลานสืบไป และเราจะเป็นพระเจ้าของพวกเขา”
9แล้วพระเจ้าตรัสกับอับราฮัมว่า “สำหรับเจ้า เจ้าต้องรักษาพันธสัญญาของเรา คือทั้งตัวเจ้าและลูกหลานตลอดทุกชั่วอายุสืบไป 10นี่คือพันธสัญญาของเรากับเจ้าและกับลูกหลานที่จะมาภายหลังเจ้า เป็นพันธสัญญาที่เจ้าต้องรักษา คือชายทุกคนในพวกเจ้าจะต้องเข้าสุหนัต 11เจ้าต้องเข้าสุหนัต นี่จะเป็นเครื่องหมายแห่งพันธสัญญาระหว่างเรากับเจ้า 12ผู้ชายทุกคนในพวกเจ้าทุกชั่วอายุที่มีอายุแปดวันจะต้องเข้าสุหนัต รวมทั้งคนที่เกิดในครัวเรือนของเจ้าหรือซื้อมาจากคนต่างชาติซึ่งไม่ใช่วงศ์วานของเจ้า 13ไม่ว่าจะเป็นคนที่เกิดในครัวเรือนของเจ้าหรือเจ้าซื้อตัวมาก็ต้องเข้าสุหนัต พันธสัญญาของเราที่กายของเจ้าจะเป็นพันธสัญญานิรันดร์ 14ชายใดที่ไม่เข้าสุหนัต คือผู้ที่ไม่ได้เข้าสุหนัตฝ่ายกาย จะถูกตัดออกจากชนชาติของตน เพราะเขาได้ละเมิดพันธสัญญาของเรา”
15พระเจ้าตรัสกับอับราฮัมด้วยว่า “ส่วนซารายภรรยาของเจ้า เจ้าจะไม่เรียกนางว่าซารายอีกต่อไป นางจะชื่อว่าซาราห์ 16เราจะอวยพรนางและจะให้นางกำเนิดลูกชายคนหนึ่งแก่เจ้าอย่างแน่นอน เราจะอวยพรให้นางเป็นมารดาของชาติต่างๆ กษัตริย์ของชนชาติต่างๆ จะมาจากนาง”
17อับราฮัมหมอบกราบซบหน้าลง เขาหัวเราะและพูดกับตนเองว่า “ชายอายุร้อยปีจะมีลูกได้หรือ? และซาราห์จะให้กำเนิดลูกเมื่ออายุเก้าสิบหรือ?” 18และอับราฮัมทูลพระเจ้าว่า “ขอเพียงแต่พระองค์ทรงอวยพรชีวิตของอิชมาเอล!”
19แล้วพระเจ้าตรัสว่า “แต่ซาราห์จะคลอดลูกชายคนหนึ่งให้เจ้า และเจ้าจะเรียกเขาว่าอิสอัค17:19 แปลว่าเขาหัวเราะ เราจะสถาปนาพันธสัญญาของเรากับเขา เป็นพันธสัญญานิรันดร์แก่ลูกหลานของเขาที่จะมาภายหลัง 20สำหรับอิชมาเอล เราได้ฟังเจ้า เราจะอวยพรเขาอย่างแน่นอน เราจะทำให้เขามีลูกมีหลานและจะให้เขาทวีจำนวนขึ้นมากมาย เขาจะเป็นบิดาของเจ้านายสิบสองคน และเราจะทำให้เขาเป็นชนชาติยิ่งใหญ่ 21แต่พันธสัญญาของเรานั้น เราจะทำกับอิสอัคซึ่งซาราห์จะคลอดให้เจ้าปีหน้าในช่วงเวลานี้” 22เมื่อตรัสกับอับราฮัมจบแล้ว พระเจ้าก็เสด็จขึ้นไปจากเขา
23วันเดียวกันนั้นเอง อับราฮัมก็นำอิชมาเอลและชายทุกคนทั้งที่เกิดในครัวเรือนหรือซื้อมาด้วยเงินของเขามาเข้าสุหนัตตามที่พระเจ้าตรัสสั่งไว้ 24เวลานั้นอับราฮัมอายุ 99 ปีเมื่อเข้าสุหนัต 25และอิชมาเอลบุตรชายของเขาอายุ 13 ปี 26อับราฮัมกับอิชมาเอลบุตรชายของเขาเข้าสุหนัตในวันเดียวกัน 27และผู้ชายทุกคนในครัวเรือนของอับราฮัม ทั้งคนที่เกิดมาในครัวเรือนหรือซื้อมาจากคนต่างชาติได้เข้าสุหนัตด้วยกันกับเขา
The Covenant of Circumcision
1When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the Lord appeared to him and said, “I am God Almighty17:1 Hebrew El-Shaddai; walk before me faithfully and be blameless. 2Then I will make my covenant between me and you and will greatly increase your numbers.”
3Abram fell facedown, and God said to him, 4“As for me, this is my covenant with you: You will be the father of many nations. 5No longer will you be called Abram17:5 Abram means exalted father.; your name will be Abraham,17:5 Abraham probably means father of many. for I have made you a father of many nations. 6I will make you very fruitful; I will make nations of you, and kings will come from you. 7I will establish my covenant as an everlasting covenant between me and you and your descendants after you for the generations to come, to be your God and the God of your descendants after you. 8The whole land of Canaan, where you now reside as a foreigner, I will give as an everlasting possession to you and your descendants after you; and I will be their God.”
9Then God said to Abraham, “As for you, you must keep my covenant, you and your descendants after you for the generations to come. 10This is my covenant with you and your descendants after you, the covenant you are to keep: Every male among you shall be circumcised. 11You are to undergo circumcision, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and you. 12For the generations to come every male among you who is eight days old must be circumcised, including those born in your household or bought with money from a foreigner—those who are not your offspring. 13Whether born in your household or bought with your money, they must be circumcised. My covenant in your flesh is to be an everlasting covenant. 14Any uncircumcised male, who has not been circumcised in the flesh, will be cut off from his people; he has broken my covenant.”
15God also said to Abraham, “As for Sarai your wife, you are no longer to call her Sarai; her name will be Sarah. 16I will bless her and will surely give you a son by her. I will bless her so that she will be the mother of nations; kings of peoples will come from her.”
17Abraham fell facedown; he laughed and said to himself, “Will a son be born to a man a hundred years old? Will Sarah bear a child at the age of ninety?” 18And Abraham said to God, “If only Ishmael might live under your blessing!”
19Then God said, “Yes, but your wife Sarah will bear you a son, and you will call him Isaac.17:19 Isaac means he laughs. I will establish my covenant with him as an everlasting covenant for his descendants after him. 20And as for Ishmael, I have heard you: I will surely bless him; I will make him fruitful and will greatly increase his numbers. He will be the father of twelve rulers, and I will make him into a great nation. 21But my covenant I will establish with Isaac, whom Sarah will bear to you by this time next year.” 22When he had finished speaking with Abraham, God went up from him.
23On that very day Abraham took his son Ishmael and all those born in his household or bought with his money, every male in his household, and circumcised them, as God told him. 24Abraham was ninety-nine years old when he was circumcised, 25and his son Ishmael was thirteen; 26Abraham and his son Ishmael were both circumcised on that very day. 27And every male in Abraham’s household, including those born in his household or bought from a foreigner, was circumcised with him.
