Il nuovo canto
1Poi vidi lʼAgnello in piedi sul Monte Sion, a Gerusalemme, e con lui centoquarantaquattromila persone, che portavano il suo nome e il nome di suo Padre scritti sulla fronte. 2E udii dal cielo un suono simile al fragore di una grande cascata o al rombo di un forte tuono. Sembrava un coro accompagnato da arpe. 3Cantavano un canto nuovo e meraviglioso davanti al trono di Dio, alle quattro creature viventi e ai ventiquattro anziani, e nessuno poteva imparare questo canto, allʼinfuori di quei centoquarantaquattromila che erano stati riscattati dalla terra. 4Perché costoro sono spiritualmente incontaminati, puri come vergini. Sono quelli che seguono lʼAgnello ovunque vada; sono stati riscattati dalla massa degli uomini, per essere agli occhi di Dio e dellʼAgnello la primizia dellʼumanità. 5Non possono essere accusati della minima falsità; sono senza macchia.
6Poi vidi un altro angelo, che volava in mezzo al cielo, portando la Buona Notizia, valida per ogni tempo, da annunciare agli abitanti della terra, di ogni nazione, razza, lingua e popolo.
7A gran voce egli gridava: «Temete Dio e dategli gloria, perché è suonata lʼora in cui giudicherà il mondo! Adorate Colui che fece il cielo, la terra, il mare e le sorgenti delle acque!»
8Seguì un secondo angelo, che diceva: «È caduta, è caduta la grande Babilonia, quella che ha sedotto tutte le nazioni del mondo, alle quali ha fatto bere il vino dellʼira, provocata dalla sua grande depravazione!»
9Seguì poi un terzo angelo che gridava: «Chiunque adora il mostro venuto dal mare e la sua statua ed accetta il suo marchio sulla fronte e sulla mano 10berrà il vino dellʼira di Dio, che è già versato puro nel calice della sua collera. E sarà tormentato nel fuoco e nello zolfo incandescente alla presenza dei santi angeli e dellʼAgnello. 11Il fumo del loro tormento non finisce mai. Quelli che adorano il mostro e la sua statua e accettano il marchio del suo nome, non hanno requie né giorno né notte! 12Che questo incoraggi gli uomini di Dio a sopportare pazientemente ogni prova e persecuzione, perché essi sono i suoi santi, quelli che fino alla fine continuano ad osservare i suoi comandamenti e ad avere fede in Gesù».
13Ed udii una voce dal cielo, che diceva: «Scrivi questo: finalmente per i martiri è giunta lʼora dʼavere la loro piena ricompensa. Sì, dice lo Spirito, perché ora si riposeranno dalle loro fatiche, e le loro buone opere li seguono in cielo!». 14Guardai di nuovo, ed ecco apparire una nuvola bianca e sulla nuvola stava seduto uno simile a un Figlio di uomo. Sul capo aveva una corona dʼoro massiccio ed in mano una falce affilata.
Il raccolto della terra
15E un altro angelo uscì dal tempio, gridando ad alta voce a colui che sedeva sulla nuvola: «Prendi la tua falce e mieti, perché è giunta lʼora di mietere! Il raccolto della terra è maturo». 16Allora colui che era seduto sulla nuvola lanciò la sua falce sulla terra, e la terra fu mietuta. 17Dopo di ciò, uscì dal tempio che è in cielo un altro angelo: anchʼegli teneva in mano una falce affilata.
18Allora un altro angelo, che ha il potere sul fuoco, gridò allʼangelo con la falce: «Prendi la tua falce affilata e vendemmia i grappoli della vigna della terra, perché lʼuva è matura per il giudizio!» 19Lʼangelo scagliò la sua falce sulla terra e vendemmiò la vigna della terra; poi gettò lʼuva nel grande tino dellʼira di Dio. 20E i grappoli furono pigiati nel tino, fuori della città; e dal tino uscì tanto sangue che si sparse per 1.600 stadi (300 Km) fino allʼaltezza dei morsi dei cavalli.
The Lamb and the 144,000
1Then I looked, and there before me was the Lamb, standing on Mount Zion, and with him 144,000 who had his name and his Father’s name written on their foreheads. 2And I heard a sound from heaven like the roar of rushing waters and like a loud peal of thunder. The sound I heard was like that of harpists playing their harps. 3And they sang a new song before the throne and before the four living creatures and the elders. No one could learn the song except the 144,000 who had been redeemed from the earth. 4These are those who did not defile themselves with women, for they remained virgins. They follow the Lamb wherever he goes. They were purchased from among mankind and offered as firstfruits to God and the Lamb. 5No lie was found in their mouths; they are blameless.
The Three Angels
6Then I saw another angel flying in midair, and he had the eternal gospel to proclaim to those who live on the earth—to every nation, tribe, language and people. 7He said in a loud voice, “Fear God and give him glory, because the hour of his judgment has come. Worship him who made the heavens, the earth, the sea and the springs of water.”
8A second angel followed and said, “ ‘Fallen! Fallen is Babylon the Great,’14:8 Isaiah 21:9 which made all the nations drink the maddening wine of her adulteries.”
9A third angel followed them and said in a loud voice: “If anyone worships the beast and its image and receives its mark on their forehead or on their hand, 10they, too, will drink the wine of God’s fury, which has been poured full strength into the cup of his wrath. They will be tormented with burning sulfur in the presence of the holy angels and of the Lamb. 11And the smoke of their torment will rise for ever and ever. There will be no rest day or night for those who worship the beast and its image, or for anyone who receives the mark of its name.” 12This calls for patient endurance on the part of the people of God who keep his commands and remain faithful to Jesus.
13Then I heard a voice from heaven say, “Write this: Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on.”
“Yes,” says the Spirit, “they will rest from their labor, for their deeds will follow them.”
Harvesting the Earth and Trampling the Winepress
14I looked, and there before me was a white cloud, and seated on the cloud was one like a son of man14:14 See Daniel 7:13. with a crown of gold on his head and a sharp sickle in his hand. 15Then another angel came out of the temple and called in a loud voice to him who was sitting on the cloud, “Take your sickle and reap, because the time to reap has come, for the harvest of the earth is ripe.” 16So he who was seated on the cloud swung his sickle over the earth, and the earth was harvested.
17Another angel came out of the temple in heaven, and he too had a sharp sickle. 18Still another angel, who had charge of the fire, came from the altar and called in a loud voice to him who had the sharp sickle, “Take your sharp sickle and gather the clusters of grapes from the earth’s vine, because its grapes are ripe.” 19The angel swung his sickle on the earth, gathered its grapes and threw them into the great winepress of God’s wrath. 20They were trampled in the winepress outside the city, and blood flowed out of the press, rising as high as the horses’ bridles for a distance of 1,600 stadia.14:20 That is, about 180 miles or about 300 kilometers
