خوابهای فرعون
1دو سال بعد از اين واقعه، شبی فرعون خواب ديد كه كنار رود نيل ايستاده است. 2ناگاه هفت گاو چاق و فربه از رودخانه بيرون آمده، شروع به چريدن كردند. 3بعد هفت گاو ديگر از رودخانه بيرون آمدند و كنار آن هفت گاو ايستادند، ولی اينها بسيار لاغر و استخوانی بودند. 4سپس گاوهای لاغر، گاوهای چاق را بلعيدند. آنگاه فرعون از خواب پريد.
5او باز خوابش برد و خوابی ديگر ديد. اين بار ديد كه هفت خوشهٔ گندم روی يک ساقه قرار دارند كه همگی پُر از دانه‌های گندم رسيده هستند. 6سپس هفت خوشهٔ نازک ديگر كه باد شرقی آنها را خشكانيده بود، ظاهر شدند. 7خوشه‌های نازک و خشكيده، خوشه‌های پُر و رسيده را بلعيدند. آنگاه فرعون از خواب بيدار شد و فهميد كه همه را در خواب ديده است.
8صبح روز بعد، فرعون كه فكرش مغشوش بود، تمام جادوگران و دانشمندان مصر را احضار نمود و خوابهايش را برای ايشان تعريف كرد، ولی كسی قادر به تعبير خوابهای او نبود.
9آنگاه رئيس ساقيان پيش آمده، به فرعون گفت: «الان يادم آمد كه چه خطای بزرگی مرتكب شده‌ام. 10-11مدتی پيش، وقتی كه بر غلامان خود غضب نمودی و مرا با رئيس نانوايان به زندانِ رئيس محافظانِ دربار انداختی، هر دو ما در يک شب خواب ديديم. 12ما خوابهايمان را برای جوانی عبرانی كه غلامِ رئيس محافظان دربار و با ما همزندان بود، تعريف كرديم و او خوابهايمان را برای ما تعبير كرد؛ 13و هر آنچه كه گفته بود اتفاق افتاد. من به خدمت خود برگشتم و رئيس نانوايان به دار آويخته شد.»
14فرعون فوراً فرستاد تا يوسف را بياورند، پس با عجله وی را از زندان بيرون آوردند. او سر و صورتش را اصلاح نمود و لباسهايش را عوض كرد و به حضور فرعون رفت.
15فرعون به او گفت: «من ديشب خوابی ديدم و كسی نمی‌تواند آن را برای من تعبير كند. شنيده‌ام كه تو می‌توانی خوابها را تعبير كنی.»
16يوسف گفت: «من خودم قادر نيستم خوابها را تعبير كنم، اما خدا معنی خوابت را به تو خواهد گفت.»
17پس فرعون خوابش را برای يوسف اينطور تعريف كرد: «در خواب ديدم كنار رود نيل ايستاده‌ام. 18ناگهان هفت گاو چاق و فربه از رودخانه بيرون آمده، مشغول چريدن شدند. 19سپس هفت گاو ديگر را ديدم كه از رودخانه بيرون آمدند، ولی اين هفت گاو بسيار لاغر و استخوانی بودند. هرگز در تمام سرزمين مصر، گاوهايی به اين زشتی نديده بودم. 20اين گاوهای لاغر آن هفت گاو چاقی را كه اول بيرون آمده بودند، بلعيدند. 21پس از بلعيدن، هنوز هم گاوها لاغر و استخوانی بودند. در اين موقع از خواب بيدار شدم. 22كمی بعد باز به خواب فرو رفتم. اين بار در خواب هفت خوشهٔ گندم روی يک ساقه ديدم كه همگی پر از دانه‌های رسيده بودند. 23اندكی بعد، هفت خوشه كه باد شرقی آنها را خشكانيده بود، نمايان شدند. 24ناگهان خوشه‌های نازک خوشه‌های پُر و رسيده را خوردند. همهٔ اينها را برای جادوگران خود تعريف كردم، ولی هيچكدام از آنها نتوانستند تعبير آنها را برای من بگويند.»
25يوسف به فرعون گفت: «معنی هر دو خواب يكی است. خدا تو را از آنچه كه در سرزمين مصر انجام خواهد داد، آگاه ساخته است. 26هفت گاو چاق و فربه و هفت خوشهٔ پُر و رسيده كه اول ظاهر شدند، نشانهٔ هفت سالِ فراوانی است. 27هفت گاو لاغر و استخوانی و هفت خوشهٔ نازک و پژمرده، نشانهٔ هفت سال قحطی شديد است كه به دنبال هفت سال فراوانی خواهد آمد. 28بدين ترتيب، خدا آنچه را كه می‌خواهد بزودی در اين سرزمين انجام دهد، بر تو آشكار ساخته است. 29طی هفت سال آينده در سراسر سرزمين مصر محصول، بسيار فراوان خواهد بود. 30-31اما پس از آن، چنان قحطی سختی به مدت هفت سال پديد خواهد آمد كه سالهای فراوانی از خاطره‌ها محو خواهد شد و قحطی، سرزمين را از بين خواهد برد. 32خوابهای دوگانه تو نشانهٔ اين است كه آنچه برايت شرح دادم، بزودی به وقوع خواهد پيوست، زيرا از جانب خدا مقرر شده است. 33من پيشنهاد می‌كنم كه فرعون مردی دانا و حكيم بيابد و او را بر ادارهٔ امور كشاورزی اين سرزمين بگمارد. 34-35سپس مأمورانی مقرر كند تا در هفت سال فراوانی، يک پنجم محصولات را در شهرها، در انبارهای سلطنتی ذخيره كنند، 36تا در هفت سال قحطی بعد از آن، با كمبود خوراک مواجه نشويد. در غير اين صورت، سرزمين شما در اثر قحطی از بين خواهد رفت.»
يوسف شخص دوم مملكت می‌شود
37فرعون و همه افرادش پيشنهاد يوسف را پسنديدند. 38سپس فرعون گفت: «چه كسی بهتر از يوسف می‌تواند از عهده اين كار برآيد، مردی كه روح خدا در اوست.»
39سپس فرعون رو به يوسف نموده، گفت: «چون خدا تعبير خوابها را به تو آشكار كرده است، پس داناترين و حكيم‌ترين شخص تو هستی. 40هم اكنون تو را بر اين امر مهم می‌گمارم. تو شخص دوم سرزمين مصر خواهی شد و فرمانت در سراسر كشور اجرا خواهد گرديد.» 41-43سپس فرعون انگشتر سلطنتی خود را به انگشت يوسف كرد و لباس فاخری بر او پوشانيده، زنجير طلا به گردنش آويخت، و او را سوار دومين عرابهٔ سلطنتی كرد. او هر جا می‌رفت جلو او جار می‌زدند: «زانو بزنيد!»
بدين ترتيب يوسف بر تمامی امور مصر گماشته شد.
44فرعون به يوسف گفت: «من فرعون، پادشاه مصر، اختيارات سراسر كشور مصر را به تو واگذار می‌كنم.» 45فرعون به يوسف، نام مصری صفنات فعنيح را داد و اسنات دختر فوطی فارع، كاهن اون را به عقد وی درآورد. و يوسف در سراسر كشور مصر مشهور گرديد.
46يوسف سی ساله بود كه فرعون او را به خدمت گماشت. او دربار فرعون را ترک گفت تا به امور سراسر كشور رسيدگی كند.
47طی هفت سالِ فراوانی محصول، غله در همه جا بسيار فراوان بود. 48در اين سالها يوسف محصولات مزارع را در شهرهای اطراف ذخيره نمود. 49به قدری غله در سراسر كشور جمع شد كه ديگر نمی‌شد آنها را حساب كرد.
50قبل از پديد آمدن قحطی، يوسف از همسرش اسنات، دختر فوطی فارع، كاهن اون صاحب دو پسر شد. 51يوسف پسر بزرگ خود را منسی (يعنی «فراموشی») ناميد و گفت: «با تولد اين پسر خدا به من كمک كرد تا تمامی خاطرهٔ تلخ جوانی و دوری از خانهٔ پدر را فراموش كنم.» 52او دومين پسر خود را افرايم (يعنی «پرثمر») ناميد و گفت: «خدا مرا در سرزمينِ سختیهايم، پرثمر گردانيده است.»
53سرانجام هفت سالِ فراوانی به پايان رسيد 54و همانطور كه يوسف گفته بود، هفت سالِ قحطی شروع شد. در كشورهای همسايهٔ مصر قحطی بود، اما در انبارهای مصر غلهٔ فراوان يافت می‌شد. 55گرسنگی بر اثر كمبود غذا آغاز شد و مردمِ مصر برای طلب كمک نزد فرعون رفتند و فرعون نيز آنها را نزد يوسف فرستاده، گفت: «برويد و آنچه يوسف به شما می‌گويد انجام دهيد.»
56-57در اين موقع، قحطی سراسر جهان را فرا گرفته بود. يوسف انبارها را گشوده، غلهٔ مورد نياز را به مصريان و به مردمی كه از خارج می‌آمدند می‌فروخت.
1And it came to pass at the end of two full years, that Pharaoh dreamed: and, behold, he stood by the river. 2And, behold, there came up out of the river seven well favoured kine and fatfleshed; and they fed in a meadow. 3And, behold, seven other kine came up after them out of the river, ill favoured and leanfleshed; and stood by the other kine upon the brink of the river. 4And the ill favoured and leanfleshed kine did eat up the seven well favoured and fat kine. So Pharaoh awoke. 5And he slept and dreamed the second time: and, behold, seven ears of corn came up upon one stalk, rank and good.41.5 rank: Heb. fat 6And, behold, seven thin ears and blasted with the east wind sprung up after them. 7And the seven thin ears devoured the seven rank and full ears. And Pharaoh awoke, and, behold, it was a dream. 8And it came to pass in the morning that his spirit was troubled; and he sent and called for all the magicians of Egypt, and all the wise men thereof: and Pharaoh told them his dream; but there was none that could interpret them unto Pharaoh.
9¶ Then spake the chief butler unto Pharaoh, saying, I do remember my faults this day: 10Pharaoh was wroth with his servants, and put me in ward in the captain of the guard’s house, both me and the chief baker: 11And we dreamed a dream in one night, I and he; we dreamed each man according to the interpretation of his dream. 12And there was there with us a young man, an Hebrew, servant to the captain of the guard; and we told him, and he interpreted to us our dreams; to each man according to his dream he did interpret. 13And it came to pass, as he interpreted to us, so it was; me he restored unto mine office, and him he hanged.
14¶ Then Pharaoh sent and called Joseph, and they brought him hastily out of the dungeon: and he shaved himself, and changed his raiment, and came in unto Pharaoh.41.14 brought…: Heb. made him run 15And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, I have dreamed a dream, and there is none that can interpret it: and I have heard say of thee, that thou canst understand a dream to interpret it.41.15 thou…: or, when thou hearest a dream thou canst interpret it 16And Joseph answered Pharaoh, saying, It is not in me: God shall give Pharaoh an answer of peace.
17And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, In my dream, behold, I stood upon the bank of the river: 18And, behold, there came up out of the river seven kine, fatfleshed and well favoured; and they fed in a meadow: 19And, behold, seven other kine came up after them, poor and very ill favoured and leanfleshed, such as I never saw in all the land of Egypt for badness: 20And the lean and the ill favoured kine did eat up the first seven fat kine: 21And when they had eaten them up, it could not be known that they had eaten them; but they were still ill favoured, as at the beginning. 25¶ And Joseph said unto Pharaoh, The dream of Pharaoh is one: God hath shewed Pharaoh what he is about to do. 26The seven good kine are seven years; and the seven good ears are seven years: the dream is one. 27And the seven thin and ill favoured kine that came up after them are seven years; and the seven empty ears blasted with the east wind shall be seven years of famine. 28This is the thing which I have spoken unto Pharaoh: What God is about to do he sheweth unto Pharaoh. 29Behold, there come seven years of great plenty throughout all the land of Egypt: 30And there shall arise after them seven years of famine; and all the plenty shall be forgotten in the land of Egypt; and the famine shall consume the land; 31And the plenty shall not be known in the land by reason of that famine following; for it shall be very grievous.41.31 grievous: Heb. heavy 32And for that the dream was doubled unto Pharaoh twice; it is because the thing is established by God, and God will shortly bring it to pass.41.32 established…: or, prepared of God
33Now therefore let Pharaoh look out a man discreet and wise, and set him over the land of Egypt. 34Let Pharaoh do this, and let him appoint officers over the land, and take up the fifth part of the land of Egypt in the seven plenteous years.41.34 officers: or, overseers 35And let them gather all the food of those good years that come, and lay up corn under the hand of Pharaoh, and let them keep food in the cities. 36And that food shall be for store to the land against the seven years of famine, which shall be in the land of Egypt; that the land perish not through the famine.41.36 perish…: Heb. be not cut off
37¶ And the thing was good in the eyes of Pharaoh, and in the eyes of all his servants. 38And Pharaoh said unto his servants, Can we find such a one as this is, a man in whom the Spirit of God is? 39And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, Forasmuch as God hath shewed thee all this, there is none so discreet and wise as thou art: 40Thou shalt be over my house, and according unto thy word shall all my people be ruled: only in the throne will I be greater than thou.41.40 be ruled: Heb. be armed, or, kiss 41And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, See, I have set thee over all the land of Egypt. 42And Pharaoh took off his ring from his hand, and put it upon Joseph’s hand, and arrayed him in vestures of fine linen, and put a gold chain about his neck;41.42 fine…: or, silk 43And he made him to ride in the second chariot which he had; and they cried before him, Bow the knee: and he made him ruler over all the land of Egypt.41.43 Bow…: or, Tender father: Heb. 46¶ And Joseph was thirty years old when he stood before Pharaoh king of Egypt. And Joseph went out from the presence of Pharaoh, and went throughout all the land of Egypt. 47And in the seven plenteous years the earth brought forth by handfuls. 48And he gathered up all the food of the seven years, which were in the land of Egypt, and laid up the food in the cities: the food of the field, which was round about every city, laid he up in the same. 49And Joseph gathered corn as the sand of the sea, very much, until he left numbering; for it was without number. 50And unto Joseph were born two sons before the years of famine came, which Asenath the daughter of Poti-pherah priest of On bare unto him.41.50 priest: or, prince 51And Joseph called the name of the firstborn Manasseh: For God, said he, hath made me forget all my toil, and all my father’s house.41.51 Manasseh: that is, Forgetting 52And the name of the second called he Ephraim: For God hath caused me to be fruitful in the land of my affliction.41.52 Ephraim: that is, Fruitful
53¶ And the seven years of plenteousness, that was in the land of Egypt, were ended. 54And the seven years of dearth began to come, according as Joseph had said: and the dearth was in all lands; but in all the land of Egypt there was bread. 55And when all the land of Egypt was famished, the people cried to Pharaoh for bread: and Pharaoh said unto all the Egyptians, Go unto Joseph; what he saith to you, do. 56And the famine was over all the face of the earth: and Joseph opened all the storehouses, and sold unto the Egyptians; and the famine waxed sore in the land of Egypt.41.56 all the storehouses: Heb. all wherein was 57And all countries came into Egypt to Joseph for to buy corn; because that the famine was so sore in all lands.
