Cântico de peregrinação. Salmo de David.
1Se o Senhor não tivesse estado ao nosso lado,
e Israel deve confessá-lo, o que teria sido de nós?
2Se o Senhor não tivesse estado connosco,
o que teria sido de nós, quando os adversários nos atacaram?
3Ter-nos-iam engolido vivos,
quando o seu ódio desabou sobre nós.
4Teríamos ficado submersos
sob essa avalanche.
5Ter-nos-íamos afogado sob esse dilúvio.
6Senhor, aceita o nosso reconhecimento,
por não teres permitido que nos devorassem.
7A nossa alma escapou como o pássaro que foge da armadilha;
a armadilha partiu-se e ficámos livres!
8O nosso socorro está na força
do nome do Senhor que fez o céu e a Terra!

1If it had not been the LORD who was on our side, now may Israel say;
2If it had not been the LORD who was on our side, when men rose up against us:
3Then they had swallowed us up quick, when their wrath was kindled against us:
4Then the waters had overwhelmed us, the stream had gone over our soul:
5Then the proud waters had gone over our soul.
6Blessed be the LORD, who hath not given us as a prey to their teeth.
7Our soul is escaped as a bird out of the snare of the fowlers: the snare is broken, and we are escaped.
8Our help is in the name of the LORD, who made heaven and earth.
