1Desperta, desperta, Sião! Reveste-te de força! Põe a tua melhor roupa, ó Jerusalém, cidade santa, porque os incircuncisos, os impuros, nunca mais entrarão pelas tuas portas! 2Levanta-te do pó do chão, Jerusalém! Tira a corda da escravidão do teu pescoço, ó filha cativa de Sião! 3Porque o Senhor diz: “Foram levados para o exílio sem nenhuma indemnização, também serão resgatados sem nada pagar. 4O meu povo refugiou-se no Egito e ali habitou; mais tarde foi tiranizado sem causa pela Assíria.
5E agora? Pergunta o Senhor. Porque está de novo escravizado o meu povo? Porque está ele novamente oprimido sem justificação alguma? Os que os governam dão uivos de exaltação e o meu nome é constantemente blasfemado, todo o dia, por vossa causa. 6Contudo, revelarei o poder do meu nome ao meu povo e conhecerão a virtude que há nele. Por fim, hão de reconhecer que sou eu, sim, eu quem fala com eles.”
7Como são belos, sobre as montanhas, os pés dos que trazem as felizes notícias de paz e salvação, as boas novas, dizendo a Sião: “O teu Deus reina!” 8A sentinela de vigia levanta a voz e canta de alegria, porque ali perante os seus olhos vê o Senhor que regressa a Sião. 9Que as próprias ruínas de Jerusalém rompam em cânticos de felicidade, pois o Senhor confortou o seu povo, redimiu Jerusalém! 10O Senhor arregaçou a manga do seu forte e santo braço aos olhos de todas as nações. Até as extremidades da Terra hão de ver a salvação do nosso Deus.
11Vamos então! Deixem as vossas cadeias e a escravidão! Saiam do meio deles! Afastem-se! Não tenham contacto com aquilo que eu repudio! Purifiquem-se, todos os que transportam os recipientes santos do Senhor! 12Não será à pressa que hão de sair de lá, como se fugissem para salvar as vidas, porque é o Senhor quem vai à vossa frente. Ele, o Deus de Israel, vos protegerá, até mesmo à retaguarda.
O sofrimento e a glória do Servo
13“Reparem! O meu Servo prosperará e será altamente exaltado! 14-15Tal como muitos ficaram pasmados diante dele, até as nações mais distantes e os seus governantes ficarão como que emudecidos na sua presença. Porque aqueles que nunca antes tinham ouvido falar dele agora o verão e compreenderão. Verão o meu Servo tão desfigurado que dificilmente se perceberá que se trata duma figura humana. É assim que ele limpará muitas nações.”
1Awake, awake, Zion,
clothe yourself with strength!
Put on your garments of splendour,
Jerusalem, the holy city.
The uncircumcised and defiled
will not enter you again.
2Shake off your dust;
rise up, sit enthroned, Jerusalem.
Free yourself from the chains on your neck,
Daughter Zion, now a captive.
3For this is what the Lord says:
‘You were sold for nothing,
and without money you will be redeemed.’
4For this is what the Sovereign Lord says:
‘At first my people went down to Egypt to live;
lately, Assyria has oppressed them.
5‘And now what do I have here?’ declares the Lord.
‘For my people have been taken away for nothing,
and those who rule them mock,52:5 Dead Sea Scrolls and Vulgate; Masoretic Text wail’
declares the Lord.
‘And all day long
my name is constantly blasphemed.
6Therefore my people will know my name;
therefore in that day they will know
that it is I who foretold it.
Yes, it is I.’
7How beautiful on the mountains
are the feet of those who bring good news,
who proclaim peace,
who bring good tidings,
who proclaim salvation,
who say to Zion,
‘Your God reigns!’
8Listen! Your watchmen lift up their voices;
together they shout for joy.
When the Lord returns to Zion,
they will see it with their own eyes.
9Burst into songs of joy together,
you ruins of Jerusalem,
for the Lord has comforted his people,
he has redeemed Jerusalem.
10The Lord will lay bare his holy arm
in the sight of all the nations,
and all the ends of the earth will see
the salvation of our God.
11Depart, depart, go out from there!
Touch no unclean thing!
Come out from it and be pure,
you who carry the articles of the Lord’s house.
12But you will not leave in haste
or go in flight;
for the Lord will go before you,
the God of Israel will be your rear guard.
The suffering and glory of the servant
13See, my servant will act wisely52:13 Or will prosper;
he will be raised and lifted up and highly exalted.
14Just as there were many who were appalled at him52:14 Hebrew you –
his appearance was so disfigured beyond that of any human being
and his form marred beyond human likeness –
15so he will sprinkle many nations,52:15 Or so will many nations be amazed at him (see also Septuagint)
and kings will shut their mouths because of him.
For what they were not told, they will see,
and what they have not heard, they will understand.
