O louvor ao Senhor
1Ó Senhor, eu honrarei e louvarei o teu nome, porque és o meu Deus e fazes coisas tão maravilhosas! Coisas que planeaste há muito tempo e que realizaste agora tal como tinhas predito! 2Tornaste poderosas cidades em montões de ruínas. As mais poderosas fortalezas foram feitas num amontoado de pedregulhos. Em terras distantes, luxuosos palácios desapareceram e nunca mais serão reedificados. 3Por isso, fortes nações tremerão de medo na tua presença; nações cruéis obedecerão e glorificarão o teu nome.
4Mas para os pobres és um refúgio na tempestade, uma sombra no calor, a sua defesa contra gente sem misericórdia que contra eles investe como a chuva torrencial contra um muro de terra! 5Tal como a terra seca e quente é resfriada pela sombra das nuvens, assim esfriarás o orgulho desses povos tiranos.
6Aqui no monte Sião, em Jerusalém, o Senhor dos exércitos dará uma festa maravilhosa para todos os habitantes do mundo; um banquete excecional com deliciosa comida, carne escolhida, da melhor, e vinho do mais antigo, do mais puro. 7Por esse tempo, ele tirará a sombra de melancolia, a máscara de morte com que toda a gente na Terra anda encoberta. 8Aniquilará a morte para sempre. O Senhor Deus enxugará as lágrimas de todos os rostos e fará desaparecer, de toda a Terra, a afronta que o seu povo tem suportado. Porque assim falou o Senhor. 9Nesse dia, o povo proclamará: “Este é o nosso Deus, aquele por quem esperávamos e ele nos salvou! Este é o Senhor em quem nós confiámos. Na sua salvação nos alegraremos e teremos satisfação!”
10A mão do Senhor ficará sobre o monte Sião e Moabe será esmagada como se fosse palha pisada que fica a apodrecer. 11Deus os empurrará e os afastará como o nadador que estende as mãos para nadar. Acabará com o seu orgulho e com todos os seus atos malvados. 12As altas muralhas de Moabe serão demolidas e feitas em pó.
1O LORD, thou art my God; I will exalt thee, I will praise thy name; for thou hast done wonderful things; thy counsels of old are faithfulness and truth. 2For thou hast made of a city an heap; of a defenced city a ruin: a palace of strangers to be no city; it shall never be built. 3Therefore shall the strong people glorify thee, the city of the terrible nations shall fear thee. 4For thou hast been a strength to the poor, a strength to the needy in his distress, a refuge from the storm, a shadow from the heat, when the blast of the terrible ones is as a storm against the wall. 5Thou shalt bring down the noise of strangers, as the heat in a dry place; even the heat with the shadow of a cloud: the branch of the terrible ones shall be brought low.
6¶ And in this mountain shall the LORD of hosts make unto all people a feast of fat things, a feast of wines on the lees, of fat things full of marrow, of wines on the lees well refined. 7And he will destroy in this mountain the face of the covering cast over all people, and the vail that is spread over all nations.25.7 destroy: Heb. swallow up25.7 cast: Heb. covered 8He will swallow up death in victory; and the Lord GOD will wipe away tears from off all faces; and the rebuke of his people shall he take away from off all the earth: for the LORD hath spoken it.
9¶ And it shall be said in that day, Lo, this is our God; we have waited for him, and he will save us: this is the LORD; we have waited for him, we will be glad and rejoice in his salvation. 10For in this mountain shall the hand of the LORD rest, and Moab shall be trodden down under him, even as straw is trodden down for the dunghill.25.10 trodden down under: or, threshed, etc25.10 trodden down for…: or, threshed in Madmenah 11And he shall spread forth his hands in the midst of them, as he that swimmeth spreadeth forth his hands to swim: and he shall bring down their pride together with the spoils of their hands. 12And the fortress of the high fort of thy walls shall he bring down, lay low, and bring to the ground, even to the dust.
