1Homem mortal, pega numa navalha bem afiada e rapa todo o cabelo da cabeça e a barba; depois pega numa balança e reparte o cabelo cortado em três partes iguais. 2Um terço desse cabelo coloca-o no centro do teu plano de Jerusalém; depois de simulado o cerco, queima-o ali mesmo. O outro terço do cabelo espalha-o sobre o mesmo plano da cidade e depois corta-o com uma faca. O último terço espalha-o ao vento, porque também perseguirei o meu povo com uma espada. 3Conserva apenas uma pequena parte desse cabelo e ata-o à borda da roupa que tens vestida. 4Por último, retira ainda uma pequena parte destes e lança-os no fogo, pois dali sairá um fogo contra toda a nação de Israel.
5Assim diz o Senhor Deus: Isto ilustra o que há de acontecer em Jerusalém, 6pois se desviou das minhas leis e se tornou ainda pior do que as outras nações à sua volta. 7Ouve, pois, ó Jerusalém, o que eu, o Senhor Deus, te vou dizer! Mostraste-te mais rebelde do que os países que te rodeiam. Não obedeceste às minhas leis, nem guardaste os meus mandamentos e nem sequer seguiste os costumes dos outros povos. 8Por isso, diz o Senhor Deus, eu próprio estou contra vocês e vos castigarei aos olhos de todo o mundo. 9Castigar-vos-ei como nunca fiz antes e como nunca mais farei, por causa dos terríveis pecados que cometeram. 10Pais haverá que comerão os seus próprios filhos e filhos que comerão os pais; os que sobreviverem serão espalhados por todo o mundo. 11Eis o que vos garanto, diz o Senhor Deus: Visto que profanaram o meu templo com ídolos e com sacrifícios abomináveis, não vos hei de poupar nem terei, de forma nenhuma, misericórdia. 12Uma terça parte de vocês morrerá de fome e doença; outra terça parte será exterminada pelo inimigo e o último terço será espalhado pelos quatro ventos da Terra, perseguidos pela espada desembainhada dos seus inimigos que os perseguirão. 13Só então a minha ira será satisfeita e todo o Israel ficará a saber que eu sou o Senhor, que vos avisei, pois exijo uma devoção exclusiva.
14É assim que se tornarão um exemplo aos olhos de todo o mundo e para todos os que passarem pelas ruínas da vossa terra. 15Tornar-se-ão, por um lado, um motivo de desprezo para toda a gente; por outro, um exemplo terrível daquilo que acontece quando executo a minha ira e os meus juízos contra ti. Eu, o Senhor, falei! 16Farei chover sobre vocês flechas mortais de fome que vos destruirão. A fome tornar-se-á cada vez mais intensa, até que tenha acabado, por fim, o último pedaço de pão. 17E não será apenas a fome que virá sobre vocês; também os animais selvagens vos atacarão e vos matarão, assim como às vossas famílias; as pestes e a guerra devastarão a vossa terra; as armas dos adversários liquidar-vos-ão. Eu, o Senhor, falei!”
God’s Judgment Will Be Like a Barber’s Razor
1“Son of man, get a sharp sword. Use it as a barber’s razor. Shave your head and beard with it. Then get a set of scales and weigh the hair. Separate it into three piles. 2Burn up a third of the hair inside the city. Do this when you stop attacking the model of Jerusalem. Next, get another third of the hair. Strike it with a sword all around the city. Then scatter the last third to the winds. That is because I will chase the people with a sword that is ready to strike them down. 3But save a few hairs. Tuck them away in the clothes you are wearing. 4Next, get a few more hairs. Throw them into the fire. Burn them up. The fire will spread to all the people of Israel.”
5The Lord and King says, “What you do with the hair stands for what I will do with Jerusalem’s people. I have placed that city in the center of the nations. Countries are all around it. 6But its people are sinful. They have refused to obey my laws and rules. They have turned their backs on my laws. They have not followed my rules. These people are worse than the nations and countries around them.”
7The Lord and King continues, “You people have been worse than the nations around you. You have not lived by my rules or kept my laws. You have not even lived up to the standards of the nations around you.”
8The Lord and King continues, “Jerusalem, I myself am against you. I will punish you in the sight of the nations. 9I will do to you what I have never done before and will never do again. That is because you worship statues of gods. I hate them. 10So parents will eat their own children inside the city. And children will eat their parents. I will punish you. And I will scatter to the winds anyone who is left alive. 11You have made my temple ‘unclean.’ You have set up statues of all your evil gods. You have done other things I hate. So I will cut you off just like Ezekiel cut off his hair. I will not spare you or feel sorry for you. And that is just as sure as I am alive,” announces the Lord and King. 12A third of your people will die of the plague inside your walls. Or they will die of hunger there. Another third will be killed by swords outside your walls. And I will scatter the last third of your people to the winds. I will chase them with a sword that is ready to strike them down.
13“Then I will not be angry anymore. My great anger against them will die down. And I will be satisfied. Then they will know that I have spoken with strong feelings. And my great anger toward them will come to an end. I am the Lord.
14“I will destroy you. I will bring shame on you in the sight of the nations around you. All those who pass by will see it. 15You will be put to shame. The nations will make fun of you. You will serve as a warning to others. They will be shocked when they see you. So I will punish you because I am very angry with you. You will feel the sting of my warning. I have spoken. I am the Lord. 16I will shoot at you with my deadly, destroying arrows of hunger. I will shoot to kill. I will bring more and more hunger on you. I will cut off your food supply. 17I will send hunger and wild animals against you. They will destroy all your children. Plague and murder will sweep over you. And I will send swords to kill you. I have spoken. I am the Lord.”
