Os dons espirituais
1E agora, irmãos, quero escrever-vos acerca dos dons espirituais que o Espírito Santo dá a cada um, pois é preciso que não haja qualquer confusão a esse respeito.
2Lembrem-se que antes de se tornarem cristãos eram levados a adorar ídolos que nunca puderam dizer-vos uma palavra. 3Portanto quero que saibam como discernir o que é verdadeiramente de Deus. Pois é desta maneira: ninguém que fale pelo Espírito de Deus poderá dizer: “Jesus é maldito!” E ninguém pode dizer conscientemente: “Jesus é o Senhor!”, se não for impulsionado pelo Espírito Santo.
4Ora há diferentes espécies de dons espirituais, mas é do mesmo Espírito Santo que procedem. 5Há várias espécies de serviço para Deus, mas é ao mesmo Senhor que estamos a servir. 6Há muitas formas de Deus trabalhar nas nossas vidas, mas é sempre o mesmo Deus quem faz o trabalho em nós. 7O Espírito Santo manifesta-se por intermédio de cada um de nós, para o que for útil à igreja.
8A uma pessoa, o Espírito concede o dom de falar com sabedoria; a outro, o dom de falar com conhecimento, e tudo isto vem do mesmo Espírito. 9A um outro, dá uma fé especial, e a outro, ainda, o poder de curar doentes. 10Um tem a capacidade de fazer milagres, outro o de profetizar. A outra pessoa, dá a capacidade de distinguir os espíritos. A uma pessoa, a de falar línguas que nunca aprendeu e, a outra pessoa, a de ser capaz de interpretar o que aquela outra diz. 11E é sempre o mesmo e único Espírito Santo que dá todos estes dons, decidindo aquilo que deve ser atribuído a cada um.
Um corpo, muitas partes
12O nosso corpo tem muitas partes, mas o conjunto constitui um só corpo. Assim é também o corpo de Cristo: cada um de nós é uma parte do corpo. 13Uns são judeus, outros gentios; uns são escravos, outros são livres. Mas todos nós fomos batizados no corpo de Cristo por um Espírito e todos nós recebemos o mesmo Espírito.
14Sim, o corpo tem muitas partes; não é constituído só por uma parte. 15Se o pé disser: “Eu não faço parte do corpo, porque não sou mão”, não é por isso que deixa de ser parte do corpo. 16E se o ouvido se pusesse a dizer: “Não pertenço ao corpo, porque podia ser um olho, e afinal não passo de uma orelha.” Seria por isso que faria menos parte do corpo? 17Vamos supor que todo o corpo era olho; como é que se podia ouvir? Ou então se todo ele fosse um enorme ouvido, como se poderia cheirar?
18Mas Deus formou-nos com muitas partes e cada uma com a sua função própria. 19E que coisa estranha seria um corpo humano com uma só parte! 20Mas não, são muitas as partes, mas um só o corpo. 21O olho nunca poderá dizer para a mão: “Não preciso de ti.” Nem a cabeça poderá dizer aos pés: “Vocês são-me inúteis.”
22De facto, algumas partes que parecem mais fracas e menos importantes são realmente as mais necessárias. 23E as partes que consideramos menos dignas são aquelas que vestimos com o maior cuidado. Protegemos cuidadosamente do olhar dos outros aquelas partes que não deveriam ser vistas; 24enquanto há outras partes que não precisam deste cuidado especial. Assim Deus juntou o corpo de tal maneira que são dadas honras extras às partes que têm menos dignidade. 25Assim é criada uma harmonia entre os membros, de maneira que todos os membros cuidam uns dos outros igualmente. 26Se uma parte sofre, todas as partes sofrem com ela, e se uma parte é honrada, todas as partes ficam satisfeitas.
27Ora vocês formam o corpo de Cristo e cada um separadamente constitui uma parte necessária desse corpo. 28Por isso, na igreja Deus colocou em primeiro lugar, apóstolos; em segundo, profetas; em terceiro, ensinadores; e depois os que fazem milagres, os que têm o dom de curar, outros com o dom de ajudar o semelhante, outros que sabem administrar a igreja, e outros ainda que falam línguas que nunca aprenderam.
29Deverão ser todos apóstolos? Serão todos pregadores ou profetas? Tornar-se-ão todos ensinadores? Poderão todos fazer milagres? 30Podem todos curar os doentes? Dá-nos Deus a todos a capacidade de falar línguas que não conhecemos? Pode qualquer pessoa interpretar o que aqueles que têm esse dom dizem? Claro que não. 31Contudo, esforcem-se por serem capacitados com os dons mais importantes.

Gifts of the Holy Spirit
1Brothers and sisters, I want you to know about the gifts of the Holy Spirit. 2You know that at one time you were unbelievers. You were somehow drawn away to worship statues of gods that couldn’t even speak. 3So I want you to know that no one who is speaking with the help of God’s Spirit says, “May Jesus be cursed.” And without the help of the Holy Spirit no one can say, “Jesus is Lord.”
4There are different kinds of gifts. But they are all given to believers by the same Spirit. 5There are different ways to serve. But they all come from the same Lord. 6There are different ways the Spirit works. But the same God is working in all these ways and in all people.
7The Holy Spirit is given to each of us in a special way. That is for the good of all. 8To some people the Spirit gives a message of wisdom. To others the same Spirit gives a message of knowledge. 9To others the same Spirit gives faith. To others that one Spirit gives gifts of healing. 10To others he gives the power to do miracles. To others he gives the ability to prophesy. To others he gives the ability to tell the spirits apart. To others he gives the ability to speak in different kinds of languages they had not known before. And to still others he gives the ability to explain what was said in those languages. 11All the gifts are produced by one and the same Spirit. He gives gifts to each person, just as he decides.
One Body but Many Parts
12There is one body, but it has many parts. But all its many parts make up one body. It is the same with Christ. 13We were all baptized by one Holy Spirit. And so we are formed into one body. It didn’t matter whether we were Jews or Gentiles, slaves or free people. We were all given the same Spirit to drink. 14So the body is not made up of just one part. It has many parts.
15Suppose the foot says, “I am not a hand. So I don’t belong to the body.” By saying this, it cannot stop being part of the body. 16And suppose the ear says, “I am not an eye. So I don’t belong to the body.” By saying this, it cannot stop being part of the body. 17If the whole body were an eye, how could it hear? If the whole body were an ear, how could it smell? 18God has placed each part in the body just as he wanted it to be. 19If all the parts were the same, how could there be a body? 20As it is, there are many parts. But there is only one body.
21The eye can’t say to the hand, “I don’t need you!” The head can’t say to the feet, “I don’t need you!” 22In fact, it is just the opposite. The parts of the body that seem to be weaker are the ones we can’t do without. 23The parts that we think are less important we treat with special honor. The private parts aren’t shown. But they are treated with special care. 24The parts that can be shown don’t need special care. But God has put together all the parts of the body. And he has given more honor to the parts that didn’t have any. 25In that way, the parts of the body will not take sides. All of them will take care of one another. 26If one part suffers, every part suffers with it. If one part is honored, every part shares in its joy.
27You are the body of Christ. Each one of you is a part of it. 28First, God has placed apostles in the church. Second, he has placed prophets in the church. Third, he has placed teachers in the church. Then he has given to the church miracles and gifts of healing. He also has given the gift of helping others and the gift of guiding the church. God also has given the gift of speaking in different kinds of languages. 29Is everyone an apostle? Is everyone a prophet? Is everyone a teacher? Do all work miracles? 30Do all have gifts of healing? Do all speak in languages they had not known before? Do all explain what is said in those languages? 31But above all, you should want the more important gifts.
Love Is Necessary
But now I will show you the best way of all.
