1El malvado huye aunque nadie lo persiga;
pero el justo vive confiado como un león.
2Cuando hay rebelión en el país,
los gobernantes se multiplican;
cuando el gobernante es entendido y sensato,
se mantiene el orden.
3El pobre que oprime a los pobres
es como violenta lluvia que arrasa la cosecha.
4Los que abandonan la ley alaban a los malvados;
los que la obedecen luchan contra ellos.
5Los malvados nada entienden de la justicia;
los que buscan al Señor lo entienden todo.
6Más vale ser pobre, pero íntegro
que rico y perverso.
7El hijo entendido se sujeta a la ley;
el derrochador deshonra a su padre.
8El que amasa riquezas mediante intereses y usura,
las acumula para el que se compadece de los pobres.
9Dios aborrece hasta la oración
del que se niega a obedecer la ley.
10El que lleva a los justos por el mal camino
caerá en su propia trampa;
pero los íntegros heredarán el bien.
11El rico se las da de sabio;
el pobre, pero inteligente, se percata.
12Cuando los justos triunfan, se hace gran fiesta;
cuando los impíos se imponen, todo el mundo se esconde.
13Quien encubre su pecado jamás prospera;
quien lo confiesa y lo deja, alcanza la misericordia.
14¡Dichoso es el hombre que siempre respeta28:14 respeta a Dios. Lit. teme. a Dios!
Pero el obstinado caerá en la desgracia.
15Un león rugiente, un oso agresivo,
es el gobernante malvado que oprime a los pobres.
16El gobernante falto de juicio es terrible opresor;
el que aborrece las ganancias deshonestas prolonga su vida.
17El que es perseguido por28:17 El que es perseguido por. Alt. El que carga con la culpa de. homicidio
será un fugitivo hasta la muerte.
¡Que nadie le brinde su apoyo!
18El que es íntegro se mantendrá a salvo;
el de caminos perversos de repente caerá en la fosa.28:18 en la fosa (Siríaca); en uno (TM).
19El que trabaja su tierra tendrá abundante comida;
el que sueña despierto28:19 el que sueña despierto. Lit. el que persigue lo vacío; también en 12:11. solo abundará en pobreza.
20El hombre fiel recibirá muchas bendiciones;
el que tiene prisa por enriquecerse no quedará impune.
21No es correcto mostrarse parcial con nadie.
Hay quienes pecan hasta por un mendrugo de pan.
22El tacaño ansía enriquecerse,
sin saber que la pobreza lo aguarda.
23A fin de cuentas, más se aprecia
al que reprende que al que adula.
24El que roba a su padre o a su madre
e insiste en que no ha pecado,
amigo es del destructor.
25El que es ambicioso provoca peleas,
pero el que confía en el Señor prospera.
26Necio es el que confía en sí mismo;
el que actúa con sabiduría se pone a salvo.
27El que ayuda al pobre no pasará necesidad;
el que le niega su ayuda recibirá muchas maldiciones.
28Cuando triunfan los impíos, la gente busca refugio;
cuando perecen, los justos prosperan.
1The wicked flee though no one pursues,
but the righteous are as bold as a lion.
2When a country is rebellious, it has many rulers,
but a ruler with discernment and knowledge maintains order.

4Those who forsake instruction praise the wicked,
but those who heed it resist them.
5Evildoers do not understand what is right,
but those who seek the Lord understand it fully.
6Better the poor whose walk is blameless
than the rich whose ways are perverse.
7A discerning son heeds instruction,
but a companion of gluttons disgraces his father.
8Whoever increases wealth by taking interest or profit from the poor
amasses it for another, who will be kind to the poor.
9If anyone turns a deaf ear to my instruction,
even their prayers are detestable.
10Whoever leads the upright along an evil path
will fall into their own trap,
but the blameless will receive a good inheritance.
11The rich are wise in their own eyes;
one who is poor and discerning sees how deluded they are.
12When the righteous triumph, there is great elation;
but when the wicked rise to power, people go into hiding.
13Whoever conceals their sins does not prosper,
but the one who confesses and renounces them finds mercy.
14Blessed is the one who always trembles before God,
but whoever hardens their heart falls into trouble.
15Like a roaring lion or a charging bear
is a wicked ruler over a helpless people.
16A tyrannical ruler practices extortion,
but one who hates ill-gotten gain will enjoy a long reign.
17Anyone tormented by the guilt of murder
will seek refuge in the grave;
let no one hold them back.
18The one whose walk is blameless is kept safe,
but the one whose ways are perverse will fall into the pit.28:18 Syriac (see Septuagint); Hebrew into one
19Those who work their land will have abundant food,
but those who chase fantasies will have their fill of poverty.
20A faithful person will be richly blessed,
but one eager to get rich will not go unpunished.
21To show partiality is not good—
yet a person will do wrong for a piece of bread.
22The stingy are eager to get rich
and are unaware that poverty awaits them.
23Whoever rebukes a person will in the end gain favor
rather than one who has a flattering tongue.
24Whoever robs their father or mother
and says, “It’s not wrong,”
is partner to one who destroys.
25The greedy stir up conflict,
but those who trust in the Lord will prosper.
26Those who trust in themselves are fools,
but those who walk in wisdom are kept safe.
27Those who give to the poor will lack nothing,
but those who close their eyes to them receive many curses.
28When the wicked rise to power, people go into hiding;
but when the wicked perish, the righteous thrive.
