Profecía contra Babilonia
1Profecía contra Babilonia que recibió Isaías, hijo de Amoz:
2Sobre un monte alto agiten la bandera;
llámenlos a gritos;
háganles señales con la mano
para que entren por las puertas de los nobles.
3Ya he dado orden a mis consagrados;
he reclutado a mis guerreros,
a los que se alegran de mi triunfo, para que ejecuten mi ira.
4¡Escuchen! Se oye tumulto en las montañas,
como el de una gran multitud.
¡Escuchen! Se oye un estruendo de reinos,
de naciones que se han reunido.
El Señor de los Ejércitos pasa revista
a un ejército para la batalla.
5Vienen de tierras lejanas,
de los confines de los cielos.
Viene el Señor con las armas de su ira
para destruir toda la tierra.
6¡Giman, que el día del Señor está cerca!
Llega de parte del Todopoderoso como una devastación.
7Por eso todas las manos desfallecen,
todo el mundo pierde el ánimo.
8Quedan todos aterrados;
dolores y angustias los atrapan:
¡se retuercen de dolor, como si estuvieran de parto!
Espantados, se miran unos a otros;
¡tienen el rostro encendido!
9¡Miren! ¡Ya viene el día del Señor
—día cruel, de furor y ardiente ira—;
dejará la tierra devastada
y exterminará en ella a los pecadores!
10Las estrellas y las constelaciones del cielo
dejarán de irradiar su luz;
se oscurecerá el sol al salir
y no brillará más la luna.
11Castigaré por su maldad al mundo
y por su iniquidad a los malvados.
Pondré fin a la soberbia de los arrogantes
y humillaré el orgullo de los violentos.
12Voy a hacer que haya menos gente que oro fino,
menos mortales que oro de Ofir.
13Por eso haré que tiemble el cielo
y que la tierra se mueva de su sitio,
por el furor del Señor de los Ejércitos,
en el día de su ardiente ira.
14Como gacela acosada,
como rebaño sin pastor,
cada uno se volverá a su propio pueblo,
cada cual huirá a su propia tierra.
15Al que atrapen lo traspasarán;
el que caiga preso morirá a filo de espada.
16Ante sus propios ojos estrellarán a sus pequeños,
saquearán sus casas y violarán a sus mujeres.
17¡Miren! Yo incito contra ellos a los medos,
pueblo al que no le importa la plata
ni se deleita en el oro.
18Con sus arcos traspasarán a los jóvenes;
no se apiadarán del fruto del vientre
ni tendrán compasión de los niños.
19Babilonia, la perla de los reinos,
la gloria y el orgullo de los babilonios,13:19 Lit. caldeos.
quedará como Sodoma y Gomorra
cuando Dios las destruyó.
20Nunca más volverá a ser habitada
ni poblada en los tiempos venideros.
No volverá a acampar allí el beduino,
ni hará el pastor descansar a su rebaño.
21Allí descansarán las fieras del desierto;
sus casas se llenarán de chacales.
Allí habitarán los avestruces
y brincarán las cabras salvajes.
22En sus fortalezas aullarán las hienas
y en sus lujosos palacios, los chacales.
Su hora está por llegar
y no se prolongarán sus días.
1The burden of Babylon, which Isaiah the son of Amoz did see. 2Lift ye up a banner upon the high mountain, exalt the voice unto them, shake the hand, that they may go into the gates of the nobles. 3I have commanded my sanctified ones, I have also called my mighty ones for mine anger, even them that rejoice in my highness. 4The noise of a multitude in the mountains, like as of a great people; a tumultuous noise of the kingdoms of nations gathered together: the LORD of hosts mustereth the host of the battle.13.4 like…: Heb. the likeness of 5They come from a far country, from the end of heaven, even the LORD, and the weapons of his indignation, to destroy the whole land.
6¶ Howl ye; for the day of the LORD is at hand; it shall come as a destruction from the Almighty. 7Therefore shall all hands be faint, and every man’s heart shall melt:13.7 be faint: or, fall down 8And they shall be afraid: pangs and sorrows shall take hold of them; they shall be in pain as a woman that travaileth: they shall be amazed one at another; their faces shall be as flames.13.8 be amazed: Heb. wonder13.8 one…: Heb. every man at his neighbour13.8 flames: Heb. faces of the flames 9Behold, the day of the LORD cometh, cruel both with wrath and fierce anger, to lay the land desolate: and he shall destroy the sinners thereof out of it. 10For the stars of heaven and the constellations thereof shall not give their light: the sun shall be darkened in his going forth, and the moon shall not cause her light to shine. 11And I will punish the world for their evil, and the wicked for their iniquity; and I will cause the arrogancy of the proud to cease, and will lay low the haughtiness of the terrible. 12I will make a man more precious than fine gold; even a man than the golden wedge of Ophir. 13Therefore I will shake the heavens, and the earth shall remove out of her place, in the wrath of the LORD of hosts, and in the day of his fierce anger. 14And it shall be as the chased roe, and as a sheep that no man taketh up: they shall every man turn to his own people, and flee every one into his own land. 15Every one that is found shall be thrust through; and every one that is joined unto them shall fall by the sword. 16Their children also shall be dashed to pieces before their eyes; their houses shall be spoiled, and their wives ravished. 17Behold, I will stir up the Medes against them, which shall not regard silver; and as for gold, they shall not delight in it. 18Their bows also shall dash the young men to pieces; and they shall have no pity on the fruit of the womb; their eye shall not spare children.
19¶ And Babylon, the glory of kingdoms, the beauty of the Chaldees’ excellency, shall be as when God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah.13.19 as…: Heb. as the overthrowing 20It shall never be inhabited, neither shall it be dwelt in from generation to generation: neither shall the Arabian pitch tent there; neither shall the shepherds make their fold there. 21But wild beasts of the desert shall lie there; and their houses shall be full of doleful creatures; and owls shall dwell there, and satyrs shall dance there.13.21 wild…: Heb.
