El retoño de Isaí
1Del tronco de Isaí brotará un retoño;
un renuevo nacerá de sus raíces.
2El Espíritu del Señor reposará sobre él:
Espíritu de sabiduría y de entendimiento,
Espíritu de consejo y de poder,
Espíritu de conocimiento y de temor del Señor.
3Él se deleitará en el temor del Señor.
No juzgará según las apariencias
ni decidirá por lo que oiga decir,
4sino que juzgará con justicia a los necesitados,
y dará un fallo justo en favor de los pobres de la tierra.
Herirá la tierra con la vara de su boca;
matará al malvado con el aliento de sus labios.
5La justicia será el cinto de sus lomos
y la fidelidad, el ceñidor de su cintura.
6El lobo vivirá con el cordero,
el leopardo se echará con el cabrito,
juntos andarán el ternero y el cachorro de león
y un niño pequeño los guiará.
7La vaca pastará con la osa,
sus crías se echarán juntas
y el león comerá paja como el buey.
8Jugará el niño de pecho junto a la cueva de la cobra
y el recién destetado meterá la mano en el nido de la víbora.
9No harán ningún daño ni estrago
en todo mi monte santo,
porque se llenará la tierra con el conocimiento del Señor
así como las aguas cubren los mares.
10En aquel día se alzará la raíz de Isaí como bandera de los pueblos; hacia él correrán las naciones, y glorioso será el lugar donde repose. 11En aquel día el Señor volverá a extender su mano para recuperar al remanente de su pueblo, a los que hayan quedado en Asiria, en Egipto, Patros y Cus; en Elam, Sinar,11:11 Sinar. Es decir, Babilonia. Jamat y en las islas del Mediterráneo.
12Izará una bandera para las naciones,
reunirá a los desterrados de Israel
y de los cuatro puntos cardinales
juntará al pueblo esparcido de Judá.
13Desaparecerán los celos de Efraín;
los opresores de Judá serán aniquilados.
Efraín no tendrá más celos de Judá
ni oprimirá Judá a Efraín.
14Juntos se lanzarán hacia el oeste contra las laderas de los filisteos;
juntos saquearán a los pueblos del este,
dejarán sentir su poder sobre Edom y Moab
y se les someterán los amonitas.
15Secará11:15 Secará (LXX); Destruirá (TM). el Señor el golfo del mar de Egipto;
pasará su mano sobre el río Éufrates
y lanzará un viento ardiente;
lo dividirá en siete arroyos
para que lo puedan cruzar en sandalias.
16Para el remanente de su pueblo,
para los que hayan quedado en Asiria,
habrá un camino, como lo hubo para Israel
cuando salió de Egipto.
The Branch From Jesse
1A shoot will come up from the stump of Jesse;
from his roots a Branch will bear fruit.
2The Spirit of the Lord will rest on him—
the Spirit of wisdom and of understanding,
the Spirit of counsel and of might,
the Spirit of the knowledge and fear of the Lord—
3and he will delight in the fear of the Lord.
He will not judge by what he sees with his eyes,
or decide by what he hears with his ears;
4but with righteousness he will judge the needy,
with justice he will give decisions for the poor of the earth.
He will strike the earth with the rod of his mouth;
with the breath of his lips he will slay the wicked.
5Righteousness will be his belt
and faithfulness the sash around his waist.
6The wolf will live with the lamb,
the leopard will lie down with the goat,
the calf and the lion and the yearling11:6 Hebrew; Septuagint lion will feed together;
and a little child will lead them.
7The cow will feed with the bear,
their young will lie down together,
and the lion will eat straw like the ox.
8The infant will play near the cobra’s den,
and the young child will put its hand into the viper’s nest.
9They will neither harm nor destroy
on all my holy mountain,
for the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the Lord
as the waters cover the sea.
10In that day the Root of Jesse will stand as a banner for the peoples; the nations will rally to him, and his resting place will be glorious. 11In that day the Lord will reach out his hand a second time to reclaim the surviving remnant of his people from Assyria, from Lower Egypt, from Upper Egypt, from Cush,11:11 That is, the upper Nile region from Elam, from Babylonia,11:11 Hebrew Shinar from Hamath and from the islands of the Mediterranean.
12He will raise a banner for the nations
and gather the exiles of Israel;
he will assemble the scattered people of Judah
from the four quarters of the earth.
13Ephraim’s jealousy will vanish,
and Judah’s enemies11:13 Or hostility will be destroyed;
Ephraim will not be jealous of Judah,
nor Judah hostile toward Ephraim.
14They will swoop down on the slopes of Philistia to the west;
together they will plunder the people to the east.
They will subdue Edom and Moab,
and the Ammonites will be subject to them.
15The Lord will dry up
the gulf of the Egyptian sea;
with a scorching wind he will sweep his hand
over the Euphrates River.
He will break it up into seven streams
so that anyone can cross over in sandals.
16There will be a highway for the remnant of his people
that is left from Assyria,
as there was for Israel
when they came up from Egypt.
