Bendición a causa del arrepentimiento
1Cuando recibas todas estas bendiciones o sufras estas maldiciones de las que te he hablado, y las recuerdes en cualquier nación por donde el Señor tu Dios te haya dispersado; 2y cuando tú y tus hijos se vuelvan al Señor tu Dios y le obedezcan con todo el corazón y con toda el alma, tal como hoy te lo ordeno, 3entonces el Señor tu Dios restaurará tu fortuna30:3 restaurará tu fortuna. Alt. te hará volver del destierro. y se compadecerá de ti. ¡Volverá a reunirte de todas las naciones por donde te haya dispersado! 4Aunque te encuentres desterrado en el lugar más distante de la tierra, desde allá el Señor tu Dios te traerá de vuelta y volverá a reunirte. 5Te hará volver a la tierra que perteneció a tus antepasados y tomarás posesión de ella. Te hará prosperar y tendrás más descendientes que los que tuvieron tus antepasados. 6El Señor tu Dios circuncidará tu corazón y el de tus descendientes, para que lo ames con todo tu corazón y con toda tu alma y así tengas vida. 7Además, el Señor tu Dios hará que todas estas maldiciones caigan sobre tus enemigos, los cuales te odian y persiguen. 8Y tú volverás a obedecer al Señor y a cumplir todos sus mandamientos, tal como hoy te lo ordeno. 9Entonces el Señor tu Dios te bendecirá con mucha prosperidad en todo el trabajo de tus manos y en el fruto de tu vientre, en las crías de tu ganado y en las cosechas de tus campos. El Señor se complacerá de nuevo en tu bienestar, así como se deleitó en la prosperidad de tus antepasados; 10siempre y cuando obedezcas al Señor tu Dios y cumplas sus mandamientos y estatutos, escritos en este libro de la Ley, y te vuelvas al Señor tu Dios con todo tu corazón y con toda tu alma.
Elección entre la vida y la muerte
11Este mandamiento que hoy te ordeno obedecer no es superior a tus fuerzas ni está fuera de tu alcance. 12No está arriba en el cielo, para que preguntes: «¿Quién subirá al cielo por nosotros, para que nos lo traiga, y así podamos escucharlo y obedecerlo?». 13Tampoco está más allá del mar, para que preguntes: «¿Quién cruzará por nosotros hasta el otro lado del mar, para que nos lo traiga, y así podamos escucharlo y obedecerlo?». 14¡No! La palabra está muy cerca de ti, la tienes en la boca y en el corazón, para que la obedezcas.
15Mira, hoy te doy a elegir vida y prosperidad o muerte y destrucción. 16Hoy te ordeno que ames al Señor tu Dios, que andes en sus caminos y que cumplas sus mandamientos, estatutos y leyes. Así vivirás y te multiplicarás, y el Señor tu Dios te bendecirá en la tierra a la cual vas a entrar para tomar posesión de ella.
17Pero, si tu corazón se rebela y no obedeces, sino que te desvías para adorar y servir a otros dioses, 18te advierto hoy que sin duda serás destruido. No vivirás mucho tiempo en la tierra que vas a poseer luego de cruzar el Jordán.
19Hoy pongo al cielo y a la tierra por testigos contra ti, de que te he dado a elegir entre la vida y la muerte, entre la bendición y la maldición. Elige, pues, la vida, para que vivan tú y tus descendientes. 20Ama al Señor tu Dios, obedécelo y aférrate a él, porque de él depende tu vida, y por él vivirás mucho tiempo en la tierra que juró dar a tus antepasados Abraham, Isaac y Jacob.
Prosperity after turning to the Lord
1When all these blessings and curses I have set before you come on you and you take them to heart wherever the Lord your God disperses you among the nations, 2and when you and your children return to the Lord your God and obey him with all your heart and with all your soul according to everything I command you today, 3then the Lord your God will restore your fortunes30:3 Or will bring you back from captivity and have compassion on you and gather you again from all the nations where he scattered you. 4Even if you have been banished to the most distant land under the heavens, from there the Lord your God will gather you and bring you back. 5He will bring you to the land that belonged to your ancestors, and you will take possession of it. He will make you more prosperous and numerous than your ancestors. 6The Lord your God will circumcise your hearts and the hearts of your descendants, so that you may love him with all your heart and with all your soul, and live. 7The Lord your God will put all these curses on your enemies who hate and persecute you. 8You will again obey the Lord and follow all his commands I am giving you today. 9Then the Lord your God will make you most prosperous in all the work of your hands and in the fruit of your womb, the young of your livestock and the crops of your land. The Lord will again delight in you and make you prosperous, just as he delighted in your ancestors, 10if you obey the Lord your God and keep his commands and decrees that are written in this Book of the Law and turn to the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul.
The offer of life or death
11Now what I am commanding you today is not too difficult for you or beyond your reach. 12It is not up in heaven, so that you have to ask, ‘Who will ascend into heaven to get it and proclaim it to us so that we may obey it?’ 13Nor is it beyond the sea, so that you have to ask, ‘Who will cross the sea to get it and proclaim it to us so that we may obey it?’ 14No, the word is very near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart so that you may obey it.
15See, I set before you today life and prosperity, death and destruction. 16For I command you today to love the Lord your God, to walk in obedience to him, and to keep his commands, decrees and laws; then you will live and increase, and the Lord your God will bless you in the land you are entering to possess.
17But if your heart turns away and you are not obedient, and if you are drawn away to bow down to other gods and worship them, 18I declare to you this day that you will certainly be destroyed. You will not live long in the land you are crossing the Jordan to enter and possess.
19This day I call the heavens and the earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live 20and that you may love the Lord your God, listen to his voice, and hold fast to him. For the Lord is your life, and he will give you many years in the land he swore to give to your fathers, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.
