1Entonces el pueblo tomó a Joacaz, hijo de Josías, y lo proclamó rey en Jerusalén, en lugar de su padre.

2Joacaz tenía veintitrés años cuando comenzó a reinar, y reinó en Jerusalén tres meses. 3Sin embargo, el rey de Egipto lo quitó del trono para que no reinara en Jerusalén y le impuso al país un tributo de cien talentos36:3 Es decir, aprox. 3.4 t. de plata y un talento36:3 Es decir, aprox. 34 kg. de oro. 4Luego hizo reinar sobre Judá y Jerusalén a Eliaquín, hermano de Joacaz, y le dio el nombre de Joacim. En cuanto a Joacaz, Necao se lo llevó a Egipto.

36:5-8 – 2R 23:36–24:6
5Joacim tenía veinticinco años cuando comenzó a reinar; reinó en Jerusalén once años, pero hizo lo malo ante los ojos del Señor su Dios. 6Por eso Nabucodonosor, rey de Babilonia, marchó contra Joacim y lo llevó a Babilonia sujeto con cadenas de bronce. 7Además, Nabucodonosor se llevó a Babilonia los utensilios del Templo del Señor y los puso en su templo en Babilonia.
8Los demás acontecimientos del reinado de Joacim, y sus prácticas detestables y todo cuanto le sucedió, están escritos en el libro de los reyes de Israel y de Judá. Y su hijo Joaquín lo sucedió en el trono.

36:9-10 – 2R 24:8-17
9Joaquín tenía dieciocho36:9 dieciocho (un ms. hebreo, mss. de LXX y Siríaca; véase 2R 24:8); ocho (TM). años cuando comenzó a reinar; reinó en Jerusalén tres meses y diez días, pero hizo lo malo ante los ojos del Señor. 10Por eso, a comienzos del año el rey Nabucodonosor mandó que lo llevaran a Babilonia, junto con los utensilios más valiosos del Templo del Señor e hizo reinar sobre Judá y Jerusalén a Sedequías, pariente de Joaquín.

36:11-16 – 2R 24:18-20; Jer 52:1-3
11Sedequías tenía veintiún años cuando comenzó a reinar; reinó en Jerusalén once años. 12Pero hizo lo malo ante los ojos del Señor su Dios. No se humilló ante el profeta Jeremías, que hablaba de parte del Señor; 13además se rebeló contra el rey Nabucodonosor, a quien había jurado lealtad. Sedequías fue terco y, en su obstinación, no quiso volverse al Señor, Dios de Israel. 14También los líderes de los sacerdotes y el pueblo aumentaron su maldad, pues siguieron las prácticas detestables de los países vecinos y contaminaron el Templo que el Señor había consagrado para sí en Jerusalén.
15Por amor a su pueblo y al lugar donde habita, el Señor, Dios de sus antepasados, con frecuencia les enviaba advertencias por medio de sus mensajeros. 16Pero ellos se burlaban de los mensajeros de Dios, tenían en poco sus palabras, y se mofaban de sus profetas. Por fin, el Señor desató su ira contra el pueblo y ya no hubo remedio. 17Entonces él envió contra ellos al rey de los babilonios,36:17 Lit. caldeos. quien dentro del mismo Templo mató con su espada a los jóvenes; no tuvo compasión de jóvenes ni de doncellas, ni de adultos ni de ancianos. A todos se los entregó Dios en sus manos. 18Todos los utensilios del Templo de Dios, grandes y pequeños, más los tesoros del Templo del Señor y los del rey y de sus oficiales, fueron llevados a Babilonia. 19Incendiaron el Templo de Dios, derribaron los muros de Jerusalén, prendieron fuego a sus palacios y destruyeron todos los objetos de valor que allí había.
20A los que se salvaron de la muerte, el rey se los llevó a Babilonia y fueron esclavos suyos y de sus hijos hasta el establecimiento del reino persa. 21Así se cumplió la palabra que el Señor había pronunciado por medio de Jeremías. La tierra disfrutó de su descanso sabático todo el tiempo que estuvo desolada, hasta que se cumplieron setenta años.
Decreto de Ciro
22En el primer año del reinado de Ciro, rey de Persia, el Señor movió el espíritu del rey para que promulgara un decreto en todo su reino y así se cumpliera la palabra del Señor por medio del profeta Jeremías. Tanto oralmente como por escrito, el rey decretó lo siguiente:
23«Esto es lo que ordena Ciro, rey de Persia:
»El Señor, Dios del cielo, que me ha dado todos los reinos de la tierra, me ha encargado que le construya un templo en la ciudad de Jerusalén, que está en Judá. Por tanto, cualquiera que pertenezca a Judá, que suba allá y que el Señor su Dios lo acompañe».

5Jehoiakim was twenty-five years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem for eleven years. He did evil in the eyes of the Lord his God. 6Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon attacked him and bound him with bronze shackles to take him to Babylon. 7Nebuchadnezzar also took to Babylon articles from the temple of the Lord and put them in his temple36:7 Or palace there.
8The other events of Jehoiakim’s reign, the detestable things he did and all that was found against him, are written in the book of the kings of Israel and Judah. And Jehoiachin his son succeeded him as king.

9Jehoiachin was eighteen36:9 One Hebrew manuscript, some Septuagint manuscripts and Syriac (see also 2 Kings 24:8); most Hebrew manuscripts eight years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem for three months and ten days. He did evil in the eyes of the Lord. 10In the spring, King Nebuchadnezzar sent for him and brought him to Babylon, together with articles of value from the temple of the Lord, and he made Jehoiachin’s uncle,36:10 Hebrew brother, that is, relative (see 2 Kings 24:17) Zedekiah, king over Judah and Jerusalem.

11Zedekiah was twenty-one years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem for eleven years. 12He did evil in the eyes of the Lord his God and did not humble himself before Jeremiah the prophet, who spoke the word of the Lord. 13He also rebelled against King Nebuchadnezzar, who had made him take an oath in God’s name. He became stiff-necked and hardened his heart and would not turn to the Lord, the God of Israel. 14Furthermore, all the leaders of the priests and the people became more and more unfaithful, following all the detestable practices of the nations and defiling the temple of the Lord, which he had consecrated in Jerusalem.

15The Lord, the God of their ancestors, sent word to them through his messengers again and again, because he had pity on his people and on his dwelling-place. 16But they mocked God’s messengers, despised his words and scoffed at his prophets until the wrath of the Lord was aroused against his people and there was no remedy. 17He brought up against them the king of the Babylonians,36:17 Or Chaldeans who killed their young men with the sword in the sanctuary, and did not spare young men or young women, the elderly or the infirm. God gave them all into the hands of Nebuchadnezzar. 18He carried to Babylon all the articles from the temple of God, both large and small, and the treasures of the Lord’s temple and the treasures of the king and his officials. 19They set fire to God’s temple and broke down the wall of Jerusalem; they burned all the palaces and destroyed everything of value there.
20He carried into exile to Babylon the remnant, who escaped from the sword, and they became servants to him and his successors until the kingdom of Persia came to power. 21The land enjoyed its sabbath rests; all the time of its desolation it rested, until the seventy years were completed in fulfilment of the word of the Lord spoken by Jeremiah.
22In the first year of Cyrus king of Persia, in order to fulfil the word of the Lord spoken by Jeremiah, the Lord moved the heart of Cyrus king of Persia to make a proclamation throughout his realm and also to put it in writing:
23‘This is what Cyrus king of Persia says:
‘ “The Lord, the God of heaven, has given me all the kingdoms of the earth and he has appointed me to build a temple for him at Jerusalem in Judah. Any of his people among you may go up, and may the Lord their God be with them.” ’
