Celebración de la Pascua
35:1,18-19 – 2R 23:21-23
1Josías celebró en Jerusalén la Pascua del Señor. El día catorce del mes primero celebraron la Pascua. 2Josías asignó las funciones a los sacerdotes y los animó a dedicarse al servicio del Templo del Señor. 3A los levitas, que eran los encargados de enseñar a los israelitas y que estaban consagrados al Señor, les dijo: «Pongan el arca sagrada en el Templo que construyó Salomón, hijo de David, rey de Israel, para que ya no tengan que llevarla sobre los hombros. Sirvan al Señor su Dios y a su pueblo Israel. 4Organícense en turnos, según sus familias patriarcales, de acuerdo con las instrucciones que dejaron por escrito David, rey de Israel, y su hijo Salomón.
5»Ocupen sus puestos en el santuario, conforme a las familias patriarcales de sus hermanos israelitas, de manera que a cada grupo de familias del pueblo corresponda un grupo de levitas. 6Celebren la Pascua, conságrense y preparen todo para sus hermanos, y cumplan con lo que el Señor ordenó por medio de Moisés».
7De sus propios bienes, Josías obsequió a todo el pueblo allí presente unos treinta mil corderos y cabritos y tres mil bueyes, para que celebraran la Pascua.
8También los oficiales del rey hicieron sus donativos para el pueblo y para los sacerdotes y levitas. Por su parte, Jilquías, Zacarías y Jehiel, oficiales del Templo de Dios, entregaron a los sacerdotes dos mil seiscientos corderos y trescientos bueyes, para celebrar la Pascua. 9Conanías y sus hermanos Semaías y Natanael, y Jasabías, Jeyel y Jozabad, líderes de los levitas, entregaron a los levitas cinco mil animales de ganado menor y quinientos bueyes.
10Una vez preparada la ceremonia, los sacerdotes ocuparon sus puestos y los levitas se organizaron según sus turnos, conforme a la orden del rey. 11Al sacrificar los animales para la Pascua, los sacerdotes rociaban la sangre y los levitas desollaban los animales. 12Apartaron los holocaustos para entregar a cada familia patriarcal del pueblo la porción que esta debía ofrecerle al Señor, como está escrito en el libro de Moisés. Lo mismo hicieron con los bueyes. 13Después asaron los animales para la Pascua, conforme a lo ordenado; además, cocieron las otras ofrendas en ollas, calderos y sartenes, para repartirlas rápidamente entre toda la gente. 14Luego prepararon la Pascua para ellos mismos y para los sacerdotes descendientes de Aarón. Los levitas tuvieron que prepararla para ellos mismos y para los sacerdotes porque estos estuvieron ocupados hasta la noche ofreciendo los holocaustos y la grasa.
15Los cantores descendientes de Asaf ocuparon sus puestos, de acuerdo con lo que habían dispuesto David, Asaf, Hemán y Jedutún, vidente del rey. También los porteros permanecieron en sus respectivas puertas, y no tuvieron que abandonar sus puestos de servicio, pues sus compañeros levitas les prepararon la Pascua.
16Así se organizó aquel día el servicio del Señor para celebrar la Pascua y ofrecer los holocaustos en el altar del Señor, tal como lo había ordenado el rey Josías. 17En aquella ocasión, los israelitas allí presentes celebraron durante siete días la fiesta de la Pascua y la de los Panes sin levadura. 18Desde la época del profeta Samuel no se había celebrado una Pascua semejante, ninguno de los reyes había celebrado una Pascua como lo hizo Josías con los sacerdotes y levitas, con los habitantes de Judá y de Israel allí presentes, y con los de Jerusalén. 19Esta Pascua se celebró en el año dieciocho del reinado de Josías.
Muerte de Josías
35:20–36:1 – 2R 23:28-30
20Tiempo después de que Josías terminó la restauración del Templo, Necao, rey de Egipto, salió a presentar batalla en Carquemis, ciudad que está junto al río Éufrates, pero Josías le salió al paso. 21Necao envió mensajeros a decirle: «No te entrometas, rey de Judá. Hoy no vengo a luchar contra ti, sino contra la nación que me hace la guerra. Dios, que está de mi parte, me ha ordenado que me apresure. Así que no interfieras con Dios, para que él no te destruya».
22Josías no hizo caso a la advertencia que Dios le dio por medio de Necao; al contrario, en vez de retirarse, se disfrazó y fue a la llanura de Meguido para pelear con Necao.
23Como los arqueros le dispararon, el rey Josías dijo a sus servidores: «Sáquenme de aquí, porque estoy gravemente herido». 24Sus servidores lo sacaron del carro en que estaba y lo trasladaron a otro carro y lo llevaron a Jerusalén. Allí murió y fue sepultado en el panteón de sus antepasados. Y todo Judá y Jerusalén hicieron duelo por él.
25Jeremías compuso un lamento por la muerte de Josías; además, hasta este día todos los cantores y las cantoras aluden a Josías en sus cantos fúnebres. Estos cantos, que se han vuelto una tradición en Israel, forman parte de las Lamentaciones.
26Los demás acontecimientos del reinado de Josías, sus actos piadosos acordes con la Ley del Señor, 27y sus hechos, desde el primero hasta el último, están escritos en el libro de los reyes de Israel y de Judá.
Josiah Celebrates the Passover
1Josiah celebrated the Passover to the Lord in Jerusalem, and the Passover lamb was slaughtered on the fourteenth day of the first month. 2He appointed the priests to their duties and encouraged them in the service of the Lord’s temple. 3He said to the Levites, who instructed all Israel and who had been consecrated to the Lord: “Put the sacred ark in the temple that Solomon son of David king of Israel built. It is not to be carried about on your shoulders. Now serve the Lord your God and his people Israel. 4Prepare yourselves by families in your divisions, according to the instructions written by David king of Israel and by his son Solomon.
5“Stand in the holy place with a group of Levites for each subdivision of the families of your fellow Israelites, the lay people. 6Slaughter the Passover lambs, consecrate yourselves and prepare the lambs for your fellow Israelites, doing what the Lord commanded through Moses.”
7Josiah provided for all the lay people who were there a total of thirty thousand lambs and goats for the Passover offerings, and also three thousand cattle—all from the king’s own possessions.
8His officials also contributed voluntarily to the people and the priests and Levites. Hilkiah, Zechariah and Jehiel, the officials in charge of God’s temple, gave the priests twenty-six hundred Passover offerings and three hundred cattle. 9Also Konaniah along with Shemaiah and Nethanel, his brothers, and Hashabiah, Jeiel and Jozabad, the leaders of the Levites, provided five thousand Passover offerings and five hundred head of cattle for the Levites.
10The service was arranged and the priests stood in their places with the Levites in their divisions as the king had ordered. 11The Passover lambs were slaughtered, and the priests splashed against the altar the blood handed to them, while the Levites skinned the animals. 12They set aside the burnt offerings to give them to the subdivisions of the families of the people to offer to the Lord, as it is written in the Book of Moses. They did the same with the cattle. 13They roasted the Passover animals over the fire as prescribed, and boiled the holy offerings in pots, caldrons and pans and served them quickly to all the people. 14After this, they made preparations for themselves and for the priests, because the priests, the descendants of Aaron, were sacrificing the burnt offerings and the fat portions until nightfall. So the Levites made preparations for themselves and for the Aaronic priests.
15The musicians, the descendants of Asaph, were in the places prescribed by David, Asaph, Heman and Jeduthun the king’s seer. The gatekeepers at each gate did not need to leave their posts, because their fellow Levites made the preparations for them.
16So at that time the entire service of the Lord was carried out for the celebration of the Passover and the offering of burnt offerings on the altar of the Lord, as King Josiah had ordered. 17The Israelites who were present celebrated the Passover at that time and observed the Festival of Unleavened Bread for seven days. 18The Passover had not been observed like this in Israel since the days of the prophet Samuel; and none of the kings of Israel had ever celebrated such a Passover as did Josiah, with the priests, the Levites and all Judah and Israel who were there with the people of Jerusalem. 19This Passover was celebrated in the eighteenth year of Josiah’s reign.
The Death of Josiah
20After all this, when Josiah had set the temple in order, Necho king of Egypt went up to fight at Carchemish on the Euphrates, and Josiah marched out to meet him in battle. 21But Necho sent messengers to him, saying, “What quarrel is there, king of Judah, between you and me? It is not you I am attacking at this time, but the house with which I am at war. God has told me to hurry; so stop opposing God, who is with me, or he will destroy you.”
22Josiah, however, would not turn away from him, but disguised himself to engage him in battle. He would not listen to what Necho had said at God’s command but went to fight him on the plain of Megiddo.
23Archers shot King Josiah, and he told his officers, “Take me away; I am badly wounded.” 24So they took him out of his chariot, put him in his other chariot and brought him to Jerusalem, where he died. He was buried in the tombs of his ancestors, and all Judah and Jerusalem mourned for him.
25Jeremiah composed laments for Josiah, and to this day all the male and female singers commemorate Josiah in the laments. These became a tradition in Israel and are written in the Laments.
26The other events of Josiah’s reign and his acts of devotion in accordance with what is written in the Law of the Lord— 27all the events, from beginning to end, are written in the book of the kings of Israel and Judah.
