Jotán, rey de Judá
27:1-4,7-9 – 2R 15:33-38
1Jotán tenía veinticinco años cuando comenzó a reinar; reinó en Jerusalén dieciséis años. Su madre era Jerusa hija de Sadoc. 2Jotán hizo lo que agrada al Señor, pues en todo siguió el buen ejemplo de su padre Uzías; pero a diferencia de su padre, no entró en el Templo del Señor. El pueblo, por su parte, continuó con sus prácticas corruptas. 3Jotán fue quien reconstruyó la puerta superior del Templo del Señor. Hizo también muchas obras en el muro de Ofel, 4construyó ciudades en las montañas de Judá, y fortalezas y torres en los bosques.
5Jotán declaró la guerra al rey de los amonitas y lo venció. Durante tres años consecutivos, los amonitas tuvieron que pagarle un tributo anual de cien talentos27:5 Es decir, aprox. 3.4 t. de plata, diez mil coros27:5 Es decir, aprox. 1,600 t. de trigo y diez mil coros27:5 Es decir, aprox. 1,350 t. de cebada.
6Jotán llegó a ser poderoso porque se propuso obedecer al Señor su Dios.
7Los demás acontecimientos del reinado de Jotán, y sus guerras y su conducta, están escritos en el libro de los reyes de Israel y de Judá. 8Tenía veinticinco años cuando comenzó a reinar; reinó en Jerusalén dieciséis años. 9Cuando Jotán murió, fue sepultado con sus antepasados en la Ciudad de David; su hijo Acaz lo sucedió en el trono.
Jotham King of Judah
1Jotham was 25 years old when he became king. He ruled in Jerusalem for 16 years. His mother’s name was Jerusha. She was the daughter of Zadok. 2Jotham did what was right in the eyes of the Lord, just as his father Uzziah had done. But Jotham didn’t enter the Lord’s temple as Uzziah had done. The people, however, continued to do very sinful things. 3Jotham rebuilt the Upper Gate of the Lord’s temple. He did a lot of work on the wall at the hill of Ophel. 4He built towns in the hill country of Judah. He also built forts and towers in areas that had a lot of trees in them.
5Jotham went to war against the king of Ammon. He won the battle over the Ammonites. That year they paid Jotham almost four tons of silver. They paid him 1,800 tons of wheat and 1,500 tons of barley. They also brought him the same amount in the second and third years.
6Jotham became powerful. That’s because he had worshiped the Lord his God with all his heart.
7The other events of Jotham’s rule are written down. That includes all his wars and the other things he did. All these things are written in the records of the kings of Israel and Judah. 8Jotham was 25 years old when he became king. He ruled in Jerusalem for 16 years. 9Jotham joined the members of his family who had already died. He was buried in the City of David. Jotham’s son Ahaz became the next king after him.
