1No hace falta que les escriba acerca de esta ayuda para los creyentes, 2porque conozco la buena disposición que ustedes tienen. Esto lo he comentado con orgullo entre los macedonios, les dije que desde el año pasado ustedes, los de Acaya, estaban preparados para dar. El entusiasmo de ustedes ha servido de estímulo a la mayoría de ellos. 3Con todo, les envío a estos hermanos para que en este asunto no resulte vano nuestro orgullo por ustedes, sino que estén preparados, como ya he dicho que lo estarían, 4no sea que algunos macedonios vayan conmigo y los encuentren desprevenidos. En ese caso nosotros —por no decir nada de ustedes—, nos avergonzaríamos por haber estado tan seguros. 5Así que me pareció necesario rogar a estos hermanos que se adelantaran a visitarlos y completaran los preparativos para esa ofrenda generosa que ustedes habían prometido. Entonces estará lista como un acto de generosidad9:5 un acto de generosidad. Lit. una bendición. y no como una imposición nuestra.
Sembrar con generosidad
6Recuerden esto: El que siembra escasamente, escasamente cosechará, y el que siembra en abundancia, en abundancia cosechará.9:6 siembra … cosechará. Lit. siembra en bendición, en bendición cosechará. 7Cada uno debe dar según lo que haya decidido en su corazón, no de mala gana ni por obligación, porque Dios ama al que da con alegría. 8Y Dios puede hacer que toda gracia abunde para ustedes, de manera que siempre, en toda circunstancia, tengan todo lo necesario y toda buena obra abunde en ustedes. 9Como está escrito:
«Repartió sus bienes entre los pobres;
su justicia permanece para siempre».9:9 Sal 112:9.
10El que le suple semilla al que siembra también le suplirá pan para que coma, aumentará los cultivos y hará que ustedes produzcan una abundante cosecha de justicia. 11Ustedes serán enriquecidos en todo sentido para que en toda ocasión puedan ser generosos, y para que por medio de nosotros la generosidad de ustedes resulte en acciones de gracias a Dios.
12Esta ayuda, que es un servicio sagrado, no solo suple las necesidades de los creyentes, sino que también redunda en abundantes acciones de gracias a Dios. 13En efecto, al recibir esta demostración de servicio, ellos alabarán a Dios por la obediencia con que ustedes acompañan la confesión del evangelio de Cristo y por su generosa solidaridad con ellos y con todos. 14Además, en las oraciones de ellos por ustedes, expresarán el afecto que les tienen por la sobreabundante gracia que ustedes han recibido de Dios. 15¡Gracias a Dios por su don indescriptible!
1There is no need for me to write to you about this service to the Lord’s people. 2For I know your eagerness to help, and I have been boasting about it to the Macedonians, telling them that since last year you in Achaia were ready to give; and your enthusiasm has stirred most of them to action. 3But I am sending the brothers in order that our boasting about you in this matter should not prove hollow, but that you may be ready, as I said you would be. 4For if any Macedonians come with me and find you unprepared, we—not to say anything about you—would be ashamed of having been so confident. 5So I thought it necessary to urge the brothers to visit you in advance and finish the arrangements for the generous gift you had promised. Then it will be ready as a generous gift, not as one grudgingly given.
Generosity Encouraged
6Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. 7Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. 8And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work. 9As it is written:
“They have freely scattered their gifts to the poor;
their righteousness endures forever.”9:9 Psalm 112:9
10Now he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness. 11You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God.
12This service that you perform is not only supplying the needs of the Lord’s people but is also overflowing in many expressions of thanks to God. 13Because of the service by which you have proved yourselves, others will praise God for the obedience that accompanies your confession of the gospel of Christ, and for your generosity in sharing with them and with everyone else. 14And in their prayers for you their hearts will go out to you, because of the surpassing grace God has given you. 15Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift!
