Salmo 81

1Cantem de alegria a Deus, nossa força;
aclamem o Deus de Jacó!
2Comecem o louvor, façam ressoar o tamborim,
toquem a lira e a harpa melodiosa.
3Toquem a trombeta na lua nova
e no dia de lua cheia, dia da nossa festa;
4porque este é um decreto para Israel,
uma ordenança do Deus de Jacó,
5que ele estabeleceu como estatuto para José,
quando atacou o Egito.
Ali ouvimos uma língua81.5 Ou voz que não conhecíamos.
6Ele diz: “Tirei o peso dos seus ombros;
suas mãos ficaram livres dos cestos de cargas.
7Na sua aflição vocês clamaram e eu os livrei,
do esconderijo dos trovões lhes respondi;
eu os pus à prova nas águas de Meribá81.7 Meribá significa rebelião.. Pausa
8“Ouça, meu povo, as minhas advertências;
se tão somente você me escutasse, ó Israel!
9Não tenha deus estrangeiro no seu meio;
não se incline perante nenhum deus estranho.
10Eu sou o Senhor, o seu Deus,
que o tirei da terra do Egito.
Abra a sua boca, e eu o alimentarei.
11“Mas o meu povo não quis ouvir-me;
Israel não quis obedecer-me.
12Por isso os entreguei ao seu coração obstinado,
para seguirem os seus próprios planos.
13“Se o meu povo apenas me ouvisse,
se Israel seguisse os meus caminhos,
14com rapidez eu subjugaria os seus inimigos
e voltaria a minha mão contra os seus adversários!
15Os que odeiam o Senhor se renderiam diante dele
e receberiam um castigo perpétuo.
16Mas eu sustentaria Israel com o melhor trigo,
e com o mel da rocha eu o satisfaria”.

1Sing for joy to God our strength;
shout aloud to the God of Jacob!
2Begin the music, strike the timbrel,
play the melodious harp and lyre.
3Sound the ram’s horn at the New Moon,
and when the moon is full, on the day of our festival;
4this is a decree for Israel,
an ordinance of the God of Jacob.
5When God went out against Egypt,
he established it as a statute for Joseph.
I heard an unknown voice say:
6“I removed the burden from their shoulders;
their hands were set free from the basket.
7In your distress you called and I rescued you,
I answered you out of a thundercloud;
I tested you at the waters of Meribah.81:7 The Hebrew has Selah (a word of uncertain meaning) here.
8Hear me, my people, and I will warn you—
if you would only listen to me, Israel!
9You shall have no foreign god among you;
you shall not worship any god other than me.
10I am the Lord your God,
who brought you up out of Egypt.
Open wide your mouth and I will fill it.
11“But my people would not listen to me;
Israel would not submit to me.
12So I gave them over to their stubborn hearts
to follow their own devices.
13“If my people would only listen to me,
if Israel would only follow my ways,
14how quickly I would subdue their enemies
and turn my hand against their foes!
15Those who hate the Lord would cringe before him,
and their punishment would last forever.
16But you would be fed with the finest of wheat;
with honey from the rock I would satisfy you.”
