1Quem insiste no erro depois de muita repreensão,
será destruído, sem aviso e irremediavelmente.
2Quando os justos florescem, o povo se alegra;
quando os ímpios governam, o povo geme.
3O homem que ama a sabedoria dá alegria a seu pai,
mas quem anda com prostitutas dá fim à sua fortuna.
4O rei que exerce a justiça dá estabilidade ao país,
mas o que gosta de subornos o leva à ruína.
5Quem adula seu próximo
está armando uma rede para os pés dele.

7Os justos levam em conta os direitos dos pobres,
mas os ímpios nem se importam com isso.
8Os zombadores agitam a cidade,
mas os sábios a apaziguam.
9Se o sábio for ao tribunal contra o insensato,
não haverá paz, pois o insensato se enfurecerá e zombará.
10Os violentos odeiam os honestos
e procuram matar o homem íntegro.
11O tolo dá vazão à sua ira,
mas o sábio domina-se.
12Para o governante que dá ouvidos a mentiras,
todos os seus oficiais são ímpios.
13O pobre e o opressor têm algo em comum:
o Senhor dá vista a ambos.
14Se o rei julga os pobres com justiça,
seu trono estará sempre seguro.
15A vara da correção dá sabedoria,
mas a criança entregue a si mesma envergonha a sua mãe.
16Quando os ímpios prosperam, prospera o pecado,
mas os justos verão a queda deles.
17Discipline seu filho, e este lhe dará paz;
trará grande prazer à sua alma.
18Onde não há revelação divina, o povo se desvia;
mas como é feliz quem obedece à lei!
19Meras palavras não bastam para corrigir o escravo;
mesmo que entenda, não reagirá bem.
20Você já viu alguém que se precipita no falar?
Há mais esperança para o insensato do que para ele.
21Se alguém mima seu escravo desde jovem,
no fim terá tristezas.
22O homem irado provoca brigas,
e o de gênio violento comete muitos pecados.
23O orgulho do homem o humilha,
mas o de espírito humilde obtém honra.
24O cúmplice do ladrão odeia a si mesmo;
posto sob juramento, não ousa testemunhar.
25Quem teme o homem cai em armadilhas,
mas quem confia no Senhor está seguro.

mas é do Senhor que procede a justiça.
27Os justos detestam os desonestos,
já os ímpios detestam os íntegros.

3A man who loves wisdom brings joy to his father,

are spreading nets for their feet.
6Evildoers are snared by their own sin,
but the righteous shout for joy and are glad.
7The righteous care about justice for the poor,
but the wicked have no such concern.
8Mockers stir up a city,
but the wise turn away anger.
9If a wise person goes to court with a fool,
the fool rages and scoffs, and there is no peace.
10The bloodthirsty hate a person of integrity
and seek to kill the upright.
11Fools give full vent to their rage,
but the wise bring calm in the end.
12If a ruler listens to lies,
all his officials become wicked.
13The poor and the oppressor have this in common:
The Lord gives sight to the eyes of both.
14If a king judges the poor with fairness,
his throne will be established forever.
15A rod and a reprimand impart wisdom,
but a child left undisciplined disgraces its mother.
16When the wicked thrive, so does sin,
but the righteous will see their downfall.
17Discipline your children, and they will give you peace;
they will bring you the delights you desire.
18Where there is no revelation, people cast off restraint;
but blessed is the one who heeds wisdom’s instruction.
19Servants cannot be corrected by mere words;
though they understand, they will not respond.
20Do you see someone who speaks in haste?
There is more hope for a fool than for them.
21A servant pampered from youth
will turn out to be insolent.
22An angry person stirs up conflict,
and a hot-tempered person commits many sins.
23Pride brings a person low,
but the lowly in spirit gain honor.
24The accomplices of thieves are their own enemies;
they are put under oath and dare not testify.
25Fear of man will prove to be a snare,
but whoever trusts in the Lord is kept safe.
26Many seek an audience with a ruler,
but it is from the Lord that one gets justice.
27The righteous detest the dishonest;
the wicked detest the upright.
