O Altar no Monte Ebal
1Moisés, acompanhado das autoridades de Israel, ordenou ao povo: “Obedeçam a toda esta lei que hoje dou a vocês. 2Quando vocês atravessarem o Jordão e entrarem na terra que o Senhor, o seu Deus, dá a vocês, levantem algumas pedras grandes e pintem-nas com cal. 3Escrevam nelas todas as palavras desta lei, assim que tiverem atravessado para entrar na terra que o Senhor, o seu Deus, dá a vocês, terra onde há leite e mel com fartura, como o Senhor, o Deus dos seus antepassados, prometeu a vocês. 4E, quando tiverem atravessado o Jordão, levantem essas pedras no monte Ebal, como hoje ordeno a vocês e pintem-nas com cal. 5Construam ali um altar ao Senhor, o seu Deus, um altar de pedras. Não utilizem ferramenta de ferro nas pedras. 6Façam o altar do Senhor, o seu Deus, com pedras brutas, e sobre ele ofereçam holocaustos27.6 Isto é, sacrifícios totalmente queimados. ao Senhor, o seu Deus. 7Ofereçam também sacrifícios de comunhão27.7 Ou de paz e comam e alegrem-se na presença do Senhor, o seu Deus. 8E nessas pedras que levantarem, vocês escreverão com bastante clareza todas as palavras desta lei”.
As Maldições Proferidas do Monte Ebal
9Então Moisés, tendo ao seu lado os sacerdotes levitas, disse a todo o Israel: “Faça silêncio e escute, ó Israel! Agora você se tornou o povo do Senhor, o seu Deus. 10Obedeça ao Senhor, o seu Deus, e siga os seus mandamentos e decretos que hoje dou a você”.
11No mesmo dia Moisés ordenou ao povo:
12“Quando vocês tiverem atravessado o Jordão, as tribos que estarão no monte Gerizim para abençoar o povo serão: Simeão, Levi, Judá, Issacar, José e Benjamim. 13E as tribos que estarão no monte Ebal para declararem maldições serão: Rúben, Gade, Aser, Zebulom, Dã e Naftali.
14“E os levitas recitarão a todo o povo de Israel em alta voz:
15“ ‘Maldito quem esculpir uma imagem ou fizer um ídolo fundido, obra de artesãos, detestável ao Senhor, e levantá-lo secretamente’.
Todo o povo dirá: ‘Amém!’
16‘Maldito quem desonrar o seu pai ou a sua mãe’.
Todo o povo dirá: ‘Amém!’
17‘Maldito quem mudar o marco de divisa da propriedade do seu próximo’.
Todo o povo dirá: ‘Amém!’
18‘Maldito quem fizer o cego errar o caminho’.
Todo o povo dirá: ‘Amém!’
19‘Maldito quem negar justiça ao estrangeiro, ao órfão ou à viúva’.
Todo o povo dirá: ‘Amém!’
20‘Maldito quem se deitar com a mulher do seu pai, desonrando a cama do seu pai’.
Todo o povo dirá: ‘Amém!’
21‘Maldito quem tiver relações sexuais com algum animal’.
Todo o povo dirá: ‘Amém!’
22‘Maldito quem se deitar com a sua irmã, filha do seu pai ou da sua mãe’.
Todo o povo dirá: ‘Amém!’
23‘Maldito quem se deitar com a sua sogra’.
Todo o povo dirá: ‘Amém!’
24‘Maldito quem matar secretamente o seu próximo’.
Todo o povo dirá: ‘Amém!’
25‘Maldito quem aceitar pagamento para matar um inocente’.
Todo o povo dirá: ‘Amém!’
26‘Maldito quem não puser em prática as palavras desta lei’.
Todo o povo dirá: ‘Amém!’
The Altar on Mount Ebal
1Moses and the elders of Israel commanded the people: “Keep all these commands that I give you today. 2When you have crossed the Jordan into the land the Lord your God is giving you, set up some large stones and coat them with plaster. 3Write on them all the words of this law when you have crossed over to enter the land the Lord your God is giving you, a land flowing with milk and honey, just as the Lord, the God of your ancestors, promised you. 4And when you have crossed the Jordan, set up these stones on Mount Ebal, as I command you today, and coat them with plaster. 5Build there an altar to the Lord your God, an altar of stones. Do not use any iron tool on them. 6Build the altar of the Lord your God with fieldstones and offer burnt offerings on it to the Lord your God. 7Sacrifice fellowship offerings there, eating them and rejoicing in the presence of the Lord your God. 8And you shall write very clearly all the words of this law on these stones you have set up.”
Curses From Mount Ebal
9Then Moses and the Levitical priests said to all Israel, “Be silent, Israel, and listen! You have now become the people of the Lord your God. 10Obey the Lord your God and follow his commands and decrees that I give you today.”
11On the same day Moses commanded the people:
12When you have crossed the Jordan, these tribes shall stand on Mount Gerizim to bless the people: Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, Joseph and Benjamin. 13And these tribes shall stand on Mount Ebal to pronounce curses: Reuben, Gad, Asher, Zebulun, Dan and Naphtali.
14The Levites shall recite to all the people of Israel in a loud voice:
15“Cursed is anyone who makes an idol—a thing detestable to the Lord, the work of skilled hands—and sets it up in secret.”
Then all the people shall say, “Amen!”
16“Cursed is anyone who dishonors their father or mother.”
Then all the people shall say, “Amen!”
17“Cursed is anyone who moves their neighbor’s boundary stone.”
Then all the people shall say, “Amen!”
18“Cursed is anyone who leads the blind astray on the road.”
Then all the people shall say, “Amen!”
19“Cursed is anyone who withholds justice from the foreigner, the fatherless or the widow.”
Then all the people shall say, “Amen!”
20“Cursed is anyone who sleeps with his father’s wife, for he dishonors his father’s bed.”
Then all the people shall say, “Amen!”
21“Cursed is anyone who has sexual relations with any animal.”
Then all the people shall say, “Amen!”
22“Cursed is anyone who sleeps with his sister, the daughter of his father or the daughter of his mother.”
Then all the people shall say, “Amen!”
23“Cursed is anyone who sleeps with his mother-in-law.”
Then all the people shall say, “Amen!”
24“Cursed is anyone who kills their neighbor secretly.”
Then all the people shall say, “Amen!”
25“Cursed is anyone who accepts a bribe to kill an innocent person.”
Then all the people shall say, “Amen!”
26“Cursed is anyone who does not uphold the words of this law by carrying them out.”
Then all the people shall say, “Amen!”
