1Durante o reinado de Jeoaquim, Nabucodonosor, rei da Babilônia, invadiu o país, e Jeoaquim tornou-se seu vassalo por três anos. Então ele voltou atrás e rebelou-se contra Nabucodonosor. 2O Senhor enviou contra ele tropas babilônicas24.2 Ou caldaicas, aramaicas, moabitas e amonitas para destruir Judá, de acordo com a palavra do Senhor proclamada por seus servos, os profetas. 3Isso aconteceu a Judá conforme a ordem do Senhor, a fim de removê-los da sua presença, por causa de todos os pecados que Manassés cometeu, 4inclusive o derramamento de sangue inocente. Pois ele havia enchido Jerusalém de sangue inocente, e o Senhor não o quis perdoar.
5Os demais acontecimentos do reinado de Jeoaquim e todas as suas realizações estão escritos no livro dos registros históricos dos reis de Judá. 6Jeoaquim descansou com os seus antepassados. Seu filho Joaquim foi o seu sucessor.
7O rei do Egito não mais se atreveu a sair com seu exército de suas próprias fronteiras, pois o rei da Babilônia havia ocupado todo o território entre o ribeiro do Egito e o rio Eufrates, que antes pertencera ao Egito.
O Reinado de Joaquim, Rei de Judá
8Joaquim tinha dezoito anos de idade quando começou a reinar e reinou três meses em Jerusalém. O nome da sua mãe era Neusta, filha de Elnatã; ela era de Jerusalém. 9Ele fez o que o Senhor reprova, tal como seu pai.
10Naquela ocasião os oficiais de Nabucodonosor, rei da Babilônia, avançaram até Jerusalém e a cercaram. 11Enquanto os seus oficiais a cercavam, o próprio Nabucodonosor veio à cidade. 12Então Joaquim, rei de Judá, sua mãe, seus conselheiros, seus nobres e seus oficiais se entregaram; todos se renderam a ele.
No oitavo ano do reinado do rei da Babilônia, Nabucodonosor levou Joaquim como prisioneiro. 13Conforme o Senhor tinha declarado, ele retirou todos os tesouros do templo do Senhor e do palácio real, quebrando todos os utensílios de ouro que Salomão, rei de Israel, fizera para o templo do Senhor. 14Levou para o exílio toda Jerusalém: todos os líderes e os homens de combate, todos os artesãos e artífices. Era um total de dez mil pessoas; só ficaram os mais pobres.
15Nabucodonosor levou prisioneiro Joaquim para a Babilônia. Também levou de Jerusalém para a Babilônia a mãe do rei, suas mulheres, seus oficiais e os líderes do país. 16O rei da Babilônia também deportou para a Babilônia toda a força de sete mil homens de combate, homens fortes e preparados para a guerra, e mil artífices e artesãos. 17Fez Matanias, tio de Joaquim, reinar em seu lugar, e mudou seu nome para Zedequias.
O Reinado de Zedequias, Rei de Judá
18Zedequias tinha vinte e um anos de idade quando começou a reinar e reinou onze anos em Jerusalém. O nome de sua mãe era Hamutal, filha de Jeremias; ela era de Libna. 19Ele fez o que o Senhor reprova, tal como fizera Jeoaquim. 20Por causa da ira do Senhor tudo isso aconteceu a Jerusalém e a Judá; por fim ele os lançou para longe da sua presença.
A Queda de Jerusalém
Ora, Zedequias rebelou-se contra o rei da Babilônia.
1During Jehoiakim’s reign, Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon invaded the land, and Jehoiakim became his vassal for three years. But then he turned against Nebuchadnezzar and rebelled. 2The Lord sent Babylonian,24:2 Or Chaldean Aramean, Moabite and Ammonite raiders against him to destroy Judah, in accordance with the word of the Lord proclaimed by his servants the prophets. 3Surely these things happened to Judah according to the Lord’s command, in order to remove them from his presence because of the sins of Manasseh and all he had done, 4including the shedding of innocent blood. For he had filled Jerusalem with innocent blood, and the Lord was not willing to forgive.
5As for the other events of Jehoiakim’s reign, and all he did, are they not written in the book of the annals of the kings of Judah? 6Jehoiakim rested with his ancestors. And Jehoiachin his son succeeded him as king.
7The king of Egypt did not march out from his own country again, because the king of Babylon had taken all his territory, from the Wadi of Egypt to the Euphrates River.
Jehoiachin King of Judah
8Jehoiachin was eighteen years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem three months. His mother’s name was Nehushta daughter of Elnathan; she was from Jerusalem. 9He did evil in the eyes of the Lord, just as his father had done.
10At that time the officers of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon advanced on Jerusalem and laid siege to it, 11and Nebuchadnezzar himself came up to the city while his officers were besieging it. 12Jehoiachin king of Judah, his mother, his attendants, his nobles and his officials all surrendered to him.
In the eighth year of the reign of the king of Babylon, he took Jehoiachin prisoner. 13As the Lord had declared, Nebuchadnezzar removed the treasures from the temple of the Lord and from the royal palace, and cut up the gold articles that Solomon king of Israel had made for the temple of the Lord. 14He carried all Jerusalem into exile: all the officers and fighting men, and all the skilled workers and artisans—a total of ten thousand. Only the poorest people of the land were left.
15Nebuchadnezzar took Jehoiachin captive to Babylon. He also took from Jerusalem to Babylon the king’s mother, his wives, his officials and the prominent people of the land. 16The king of Babylon also deported to Babylon the entire force of seven thousand fighting men, strong and fit for war, and a thousand skilled workers and artisans. 17He made Mattaniah, Jehoiachin’s uncle, king in his place and changed his name to Zedekiah.
Zedekiah King of Judah
18Zedekiah was twenty-one years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem eleven years. His mother’s name was Hamutal daughter of Jeremiah; she was from Libnah. 19He did evil in the eyes of the Lord, just as Jehoiakim had done. 20It was because of the Lord’s anger that all this happened to Jerusalem and Judah, and in the end he thrust them from his presence.
The Fall of Jerusalem
Now Zedekiah rebelled against the king of Babylon.
