Os Sinais Concedidos a Moisés
1Moisés respondeu: “E se eles não acreditarem em mim nem quiserem me ouvir e disserem: ‘O Senhor não apareceu a você’?”
2Então o Senhor lhe perguntou: “Que é isso em sua mão?”
“Uma vara”, respondeu ele.
3Disse o Senhor: “Jogue-a ao chão”.
Moisés jogou-a, e ela se transformou numa serpente. Moisés fugiu dela, 4mas o Senhor lhe disse: “Estenda a mão e pegue-a pela cauda”. Moisés estendeu a mão, pegou a serpente e esta se transformou numa vara em sua mão. 5E disse o Senhor: “Isso é para que eles acreditem que o Deus dos seus antepassados, o Deus de Abraão, o Deus de Isaque, o Deus de Jacó, apareceu a você”.
6Disse-lhe mais o Senhor: “Coloque a mão no peito”. Moisés obedeceu e, quando a retirou, ela estava leprosa4.6 O termo hebraico não se refere somente à lepra, mas também a diversas doenças da pele.; parecia neve.
7Ordenou-lhe depois: “Agora, coloque de novo a mão no peito”. Moisés tornou a pôr a mão no peito e, quando a tirou, ela estava novamente como o restante da sua pele.
8Prosseguiu o Senhor: “Se eles não acreditarem em você nem derem atenção ao primeiro sinal milagroso, acreditarão no segundo. 9E, se ainda assim não acreditarem nesses dois sinais nem lhe derem ouvidos, tire um pouco de água do Nilo e derrame-a em terra seca. Quando você derramar essa água em terra seca, ela se transformará em sangue”.
10Disse, porém, Moisés ao Senhor: “Ó Senhor! Nunca tive facilidade para falar, nem no passado nem agora que falaste a teu servo. Não consigo falar bem!”
11Disse-lhe o Senhor: “Quem deu boca ao homem? Quem o fez surdo ou mudo? Quem lhe concede vista ou o torna cego? Não sou eu, o Senhor? 12Agora, pois, vá; eu estarei com você, ensinando-lhe o que dizer”.
13Respondeu-lhe, porém, Moisés: “Ah, Senhor! Peço-te que envies outra pessoa”.
14Então o Senhor se irou com Moisés e lhe disse: “Você não tem o seu irmão, Arão, o levita? Eu sei que ele fala bem. Ele já está vindo ao seu encontro e se alegrará ao vê-lo. 15Você falará com ele e dirá o que ele deve dizer; eu estarei com vocês quando falarem e direi a vocês o que fazer. 16Assim como Deus fala ao profeta, você falará a seu irmão, e ele será o seu porta-voz diante do povo. 17E leve na mão esta vara; com ela você fará os sinais milagrosos”.
A Volta de Moisés ao Egito
18Depois Moisés voltou a Jetro, seu sogro, e lhe disse: “Preciso voltar ao Egito para ver se meus parentes ainda vivem”.
Jetro lhe respondeu: “Vá em paz!”
19Ora, o Senhor tinha dito a Moisés, em Midiã: “Volte ao Egito, pois já morreram todos os que procuravam matá-lo”. 20Então Moisés levou sua mulher e seus filhos montados num jumento e partiu de volta ao Egito. Levava na mão a vara de Deus.
21Disse mais o Senhor a Moisés: “Quando você voltar ao Egito, tenha o cuidado de fazer diante do faraó todas as maravilhas que concedi a você o poder de realizar. Mas eu vou endurecer o coração dele, para não deixar o povo ir. 22Depois diga ao faraó que assim diz o Senhor: Israel é o meu primeiro filho, 23e eu já disse a você que deixe o meu filho ir para prestar-me culto. Mas você não quis deixá-lo ir; por isso matarei o seu primeiro filho!”
24Numa hospedaria ao longo do caminho, o Senhor foi ao encontro de Moisés4.24 Ou do filho de Moisés e procurou matá-lo. 25Mas Zípora pegou uma pedra afiada, cortou o prepúcio de seu filho e tocou os pés de Moisés4.25 Hebraico: pés dele. Possível eufemismo para os órgãos genitais.. E disse: “Você é para mim um marido de sangue!” 26Ela disse “marido de sangue”, referindo-se à circuncisão. Nessa ocasião o Senhor o deixou.
27Então o Senhor disse a Arão: “Vá ao deserto encontrar-se com Moisés”. Ele foi, encontrou-se com Moisés no monte de Deus e o saudou com um beijo. 28Moisés contou a Arão tudo o que o Senhor lhe tinha mandado dizer e prosseguiu falando de todos os sinais milagrosos que o Senhor lhe havia ordenado realizar.
29Assim Moisés e Arão foram e reuniram todas as autoridades dos israelitas, 30e Arão lhes contou tudo o que o Senhor dissera a Moisés. Em seguida, Moisés também realizou os sinais diante do povo, 31e eles creram. Quando o povo soube que o Senhor decidira vir em seu auxílio, tendo visto a sua opressão, curvou-se em adoração.
1And Moses answered and said, But, behold, they will not believe me, nor hearken unto my voice: for they will say, The LORD hath not appeared unto thee. 2And the LORD said unto him, What is that in thine hand? And he said, A rod. 3And he said, Cast it on the ground. And he cast it on the ground, and it became a serpent; and Moses fled from before it. 4And the LORD said unto Moses, Put forth thine hand, and take it by the tail. And he put forth his hand, and caught it, and it became a rod in his hand: 5That they may believe that the LORD God of their fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, hath appeared unto thee.
6¶ And the LORD said furthermore unto him, Put now thine hand into thy bosom. And he put his hand into his bosom: and when he took it out, behold, his hand was leprous as snow. 7And he said, Put thine hand into thy bosom again. And he put his hand into his bosom again; and plucked it out of his bosom, and, behold, it was turned again as his other flesh. 8And it shall come to pass, if they will not believe thee, neither hearken to the voice of the first sign, that they will believe the voice of the latter sign. 9And it shall come to pass, if they will not believe also these two signs, neither hearken unto thy voice, that thou shalt take of the water of the river, and pour it upon the dry land: and the water which thou takest out of the river shall become blood upon the dry land.4.9 shall become: Heb. shall be and shall be
10¶ And Moses said unto the LORD, O my Lord, I am not eloquent, neither heretofore, nor since thou hast spoken unto thy servant: but I am slow of speech, and of a slow tongue.4.10 eloquent: Heb. a man of words4.10 heretofore: Heb. since yesterday, nor since the third day 11And the LORD said unto him, Who hath made man’s mouth? or who maketh the dumb, or deaf, or the seeing, or the blind? have not I the LORD? 12Now therefore go, and I will be with thy mouth, and teach thee what thou shalt say. 13And he said, O my Lord, send, I pray thee, by the hand of him whom thou wilt send.4.13 wilt: or, shouldest 14And the anger of the LORD was kindled against Moses, and he said, Is not Aaron the Levite thy brother? I know that he can speak well. And also, behold, he cometh forth to meet thee: and when he seeth thee, he will be glad in his heart. 15And thou shalt speak unto him, and put words in his mouth: and I will be with thy mouth, and with his mouth, and will teach you what ye shall do. 16And he shall be thy spokesman unto the people: and he shall be, even he shall be to thee instead of a mouth, and thou shalt be to him instead of God. 17And thou shalt take this rod in thine hand, wherewith thou shalt do signs.
18¶ And Moses went and returned to Jethro his father in law, and said unto him, Let me go, I pray thee, and return unto my brethren which are in Egypt, and see whether they be yet alive. And Jethro said to Moses, Go in peace.4.18 Jethro: Heb. Jether 19And the LORD said unto Moses in Midian, Go, return into Egypt: for all the men are dead which sought thy life. 20And Moses took his wife and his sons, and set them upon an ass, and he returned to the land of Egypt: and Moses took the rod of God in his hand. 21And the LORD said unto Moses, When thou goest to return into Egypt, see that thou do all those wonders before Pharaoh, which I have put in thine hand: but I will harden his heart, that he shall not let the people go. 22And thou shalt say unto Pharaoh, Thus saith the LORD, Israel is my son, even my firstborn: 23And I say unto thee, Let my son go, that he may serve me: and if thou refuse to let him go, behold, I will slay thy son, even thy firstborn.
24¶ And it came to pass by the way in the inn, that the LORD met him, and sought to kill him. 25Then Zipporah took a sharp stone, and cut off the foreskin of her son, and cast it at his feet, and said, Surely a bloody husband art thou to me.4.25 sharp…: or, knife4.25 cast…: Heb. made it touch 26So he let him go: then she said, A bloody husband thou art, because of the circumcision.
27¶ And the LORD said to Aaron, Go into the wilderness to meet Moses. And he went, and met him in the mount of God, and kissed him. 28And Moses told Aaron all the words of the LORD who had sent him, and all the signs which he had commanded him.
29¶ And Moses and Aaron went and gathered together all the elders of the children of Israel: 30And Aaron spake all the words which the LORD had spoken unto Moses, and did the signs in the sight of the people. 31And the people believed: and when they heard that the LORD had visited the children of Israel, and that he had looked upon their affliction, then they bowed their heads and worshipped.
