As Vestes Sacerdotais
1“Chame seu irmão, Arão, e separe-o dentre os israelitas, e também os seus filhos Nadabe e Abiú, Eleazar e Itamar, para que me sirvam como sacerdotes. 2Para o seu irmão Arão, faça vestes sagradas que lhe confiram dignidade e honra. 3Diga a todos os homens capazes, aos quais dei habilidade, que façam vestes para a consagração de Arão, para que me sirva como sacerdote. 4São estas as vestes que farão: um peitoral, um colete sacerdotal, um manto, uma túnica bordada, um turbante e um cinturão. Para que o sacerdote Arão e seus filhos me sirvam como sacerdotes, eles farão essas vestes sagradas 5e usarão linho fino, fios de ouro e fios de tecidos azul, roxo e vermelho.
O Colete Sacerdotal
6“Faça o colete sacerdotal de linho fino trançado, de fios de ouro e de fios de tecidos azul, roxo e vermelho—trabalho artesanal. 7Terá duas ombreiras atadas às suas duas extremidades para uni-lo bem. 8O cinturão e o colete que por ele é preso serão feitos da mesma peça. O cinturão também será de linho fino trançado, de fios de ouro e de fios de tecidos azul, roxo e vermelho.
9“Grave em duas pedras de ônix os nomes dos filhos de Israel, 10por ordem de nascimento: seis nomes numa pedra e seis na outra. 11Grave os nomes dos filhos de Israel nas duas pedras como o lapidador grava um selo. Em seguida, prenda-as com filigranas de ouro, 12costurando-as nas ombreiras do colete sacerdotal, como pedras memoriais para os filhos de Israel. Assim Arão levará os nomes em seus ombros como memorial diante do Senhor. 13Faça filigranas de ouro 14e duas correntes de ouro puro, entrelaçadas como uma corda; e prenda as correntes às filigranas.
O Peitoral
15“Faça um peitoral de decisões—trabalho artesanal. Faça-o como o colete sacerdotal: de linho fino trançado, de fios de ouro e de fios de tecidos azul, roxo e vermelho. 16Será quadrado, com um palmo de comprimento e um palmo de largura, e dobrado em dois. 17Em seguida, fixe nele quatro fileiras de pedras preciosas. Na primeira fileira haverá um rubi, um topázio e um berilo; 18na segunda, uma turquesa, uma safira e um diamante; 19na terceira, um jacinto, uma ágata e uma ametista; 20na quarta, um crisólito, um ônix e um jaspe.28.20 A identificação precisa de algumas destas pedras não é conhecida. 21Serão doze pedras, uma para cada um dos nomes dos filhos de Israel, cada uma gravada como um selo, com o nome de uma das doze tribos.
22“Faça para o peitoral correntes de ouro puro trançadas como cordas. 23Faça também duas argolas de ouro e prenda-as às duas extremidades do peitoral. 24Prenda as duas correntes de ouro às argolas nas extremidades do peitoral, 25e as outras extremidades das correntes, às duas filigranas, unindo-as às peças das ombreiras do colete sacerdotal, na parte da frente. 26Faça outras duas argolas de ouro e prenda-as às outras duas extremidades do peitoral, na borda interna, próxima ao colete sacerdotal. 27Faça mais duas argolas de ouro e prenda-as na parte inferior das ombreiras, na frente do colete sacerdotal, próximas da costura, logo acima do cinturão do colete sacerdotal. 28As argolas do peitoral serão amarradas às argolas do colete com um cordão azul, ligando o peitoral ao cinturão, para que não se separe do colete sacerdotal.
29“Toda vez que Arão entrar no Lugar Santo, levará os nomes dos filhos de Israel sobre o seu coração no peitoral de decisões, como memorial permanente perante o Senhor. 30Ponha também o Urim e o Tumim28.30 Objetos utilizados para se conhecer a vontade de Deus. no peitoral das decisões, para que estejam sobre o coração de Arão sempre que ele entrar na presença do Senhor. Assim, Arão levará sempre sobre o coração, na presença do Senhor, os meios para tomar decisões em Israel.
Outras Vestes Sacerdotais
31“Faça o manto do colete sacerdotal inteiramente de fios de tecido azul, 32com uma abertura para a cabeça no centro. Ao redor dessa abertura haverá uma dobra tecida, como uma gola, para que não se rasgue. 33Faça romãs de fios de tecidos azul, roxo e vermelho em volta da borda do manto, intercaladas com pequenos sinos de ouro. 34Os sinos de ouro e as romãs se alternarão por toda a volta da borda do manto. 35Arão o vestirá quando ministrar. O som dos sinos será ouvido quando ele entrar no Lugar Santo diante do Senhor e quando sair, para que não morra.
36“Faça um diadema de ouro puro e grave nele como se grava um selo: Consagrado ao Senhor. 37Prenda-o na parte da frente do turbante com uma fita azul. 38Estará sobre a testa de Arão; assim ele levará a culpa de qualquer pecado que os israelitas cometerem em relação às coisas sagradas, ao fazerem todas as suas ofertas. Estará sempre sobre a testa de Arão, para que as ofertas sejam aceitas pelo Senhor.
39“Teça a túnica e o turbante com linho fino. O cinturão será feito por um bordador. 40Faça também túnicas, cinturões e gorros para os filhos de Arão, para conferir-lhes honra e dignidade. 41Depois de vestir seu irmão, Arão, e os filhos dele, unja-os e consagre-os, para que me sirvam como sacerdotes.
42“Faça-lhes calções de linho que vão da cintura até a coxa, para cobrirem a sua nudez. 43Arão e seus filhos terão que vesti-los sempre que entrarem na Tenda do Encontro ou quando se aproximarem do altar para ministrar no Lugar Santo, para que não incorram em culpa e morram.

The priestly garments
1‘Let Aaron your brother be brought to you from among the Israelites, with his sons Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar, so that they may serve me as priests. 2Make sacred garments for your brother Aaron to give him dignity and honour. 3Tell all the skilled workers to whom I have given wisdom in such matters that they are to make garments for Aaron, for his consecration, so that he may serve me as priest. 4These are the garments they are to make: a breastpiece, an ephod, a robe, a woven tunic, a turban and a sash. They are to make these sacred garments for your brother Aaron and his sons, so that they may serve me as priests. 5Make them use gold, and blue, purple and scarlet yarn, and fine linen.
The ephod
6‘Make the ephod of gold, and of blue, purple and scarlet yarn, and of finely twisted linen – the work of skilled hands. 7It is to have two shoulder pieces attached to two of its corners, so that it can be fastened. 8Its skilfully woven waistband is to be like it – of one piece with the ephod and made with gold, and with blue, purple and scarlet yarn, and with finely twisted linen.
9‘Take two onyx stones and engrave on them the names of the sons of Israel 10in the order of their birth – six names on one stone and the remaining six on the other. 11Engrave the names of the sons of Israel on the two stones the way a gem cutter engraves a seal. Then mount the stones in gold filigree settings 12and fasten them on the shoulder pieces of the ephod as memorial stones for the sons of Israel. Aaron is to bear the names on his shoulders as a memorial before the Lord. 13Make gold filigree settings 14and two braided chains of pure gold, like a rope, and attach the chains to the settings.
The breastpiece
15‘Fashion a breastpiece for making decisions – the work of skilled hands. Make it like the ephod: of gold, and of blue, purple and scarlet yarn, and of finely twisted linen. 16It is to be square – a span28:16 That is, about 23 centimetres long and a span wide – and folded double. 17Then mount four rows of precious stones on it. The first row shall be carnelian, chrysolite and beryl; 18the second row shall be turquoise, lapis lazuli and emerald; 19the third row shall be jacinth, agate and amethyst; 20the fourth row shall be topaz, onyx and jasper.28:20 The precise identification of some of these precious stones is uncertain. Mount them in gold filigree settings. 21There are to be twelve stones, one for each of the names of the sons of Israel, each engraved like a seal with the name of one of the twelve tribes.
22‘For the breastpiece make braided chains of pure gold, like a rope. 23Make two gold rings for it and fasten them to two corners of the breastpiece. 24Fasten the two gold chains to the rings at the corners of the breastpiece, 25and the other ends of the chains to the two settings, attaching them to the shoulder pieces of the ephod at the front. 26Make two gold rings and attach them to the other two corners of the breastpiece on the inside edge next to the ephod. 27Make two more gold rings and attach them to the bottom of the shoulder pieces on the front of the ephod, close to the seam just above the waistband of the ephod. 28The rings of the breastpiece are to be tied to the rings of the ephod with blue cord, connecting it to the waistband, so that the breastpiece will not swing out from the ephod.
29‘Whenever Aaron enters the Holy Place, he will bear the names of the sons of Israel over his heart on the breastpiece of decision as a continuing memorial before the Lord. 30Also put the Urim and the Thummim in the breastpiece, so they may be over Aaron’s heart whenever he enters the presence of the Lord. Thus Aaron will always bear the means of making decisions for the Israelites over his heart before the Lord.
Other priestly garments
31‘Make the robe of the ephod entirely of blue cloth, 32with an opening for the head in its centre. There shall be a woven edge like a collar28:32 The meaning of the Hebrew for this word is uncertain. around this opening, so that it will not tear. 33Make pomegranates of blue, purple and scarlet yarn around the hem of the robe, with gold bells between them. 34The gold bells and the pomegranates are to alternate round the hem of the robe. 35Aaron must wear it when he ministers. The sound of the bells will be heard when he enters the Holy Place before the Lord and when he comes out, so that he will not die.
36‘Make a plate of pure gold and engrave on it as on a seal:
Holy to the Lord.
37Fasten a blue cord to it to attach it to the turban; it is to be on the front of the turban. 38It will be on Aaron’s forehead, and he will bear the guilt involved in the sacred gifts the Israelites consecrate, whatever their gifts may be. It will be on Aaron’s forehead continually so that they will be acceptable to the Lord.
39‘Weave the tunic of fine linen and make the turban of fine linen. The sash is to be the work of an embroiderer. 40Make tunics, sashes and caps for Aaron’s sons to give them dignity and honour. 41After you put these clothes on your brother Aaron and his sons, anoint and ordain them. Consecrate them so they may serve me as priests.
42‘Make linen undergarments as a covering for the body, reaching from the waist to the thigh. 43Aaron and his sons must wear them whenever they enter the tent of meeting or approach the altar to minister in the Holy Place, so that they will not incur guilt and die.
‘This is to be a lasting ordinance for Aaron and his descendants.
