Elifas talar för tredje gången
1Elifas från Teman yttrade sig då än en gång:
2Kan människan vara användbar för Gud?
Kan ens den klokaste människa vara till någon nytta för honom?
3Har den Väldige någon glädje av din rättfärdighet?
Vad skulle han vinna på att du är felfri?
4Är det för din gudsfruktans skull,
som han straffar dig
och går till rätta med dig?
5Nej, det är på grund av din ondska
och dina ändlösa synder!
6Du har utan orsak krävt pant av dina bröder
och klätt av dem in på bara kroppen!
7Du har vägrat den törstige vatten
och den svältande bröd,
8trots att du var mäktig
och ägde mark,
var högaktad
och bodde där.22:8 Eller: Den mäktige ägde landet, den högaktade bodde där.
9Du har skickat i väg änkor tomhänta
och behandlat de faderlösa hårt22:9 Mer ordagrant: brutit ner de föräldralösas kraft..
10Det är därför som du nu är omgiven av snaror
och plötslig skräck drabbar dig.
11Det är så mörkt att du inte kan se,
och vattenmassor täcker dig.
12Bor inte Gud i himlens höjd?
Se på stjärnorna högt där uppe!
13Men du säger:
”Vad kan Gud veta?
Hur skulle han kunna döma genom detta mörker?
14Tjocka moln döljer honom,
så att han inte kan se.
Han vandrar på himlavalvet.”
15Du tycks hålla dig till den gamla stigen
som onda människor vandrat!
16De rycks bort i förtid,
och allt de byggt på sköljs bort av en flod.
17För de har sagt till Gud:
”Lämna oss ifred!
Vad kan den Väldige göra oss?”
18Ändå var det han som fyllde deras hem
med så mycket gott.
Men jag tar avstånd från de ogudaktigas rådslag.
19De rättfärdiga ser dem och gläds.
Den oskyldige hånar dem:
20”Våra sista fiender förintas,
deras rikedom förtärs av elden.”
21Böj dig nu inför Gud
och sök fred med honom!
Då ska lyckan komma till dig.
22Ta till dig hans undervisning
och lägg hans ord på hjärtat!
23Om du vänder om till den Väldige
ska du bli upprättad,
om du avlägsnar ondskan från ditt tält,
24om du kastar bort ditt guld
och Ofirs guld bland bäckbäddens stenar,22:24 Grundtextens innebörd i denna vers är osäker.
25så ska den Väldige själv bli ditt guld,
ditt dyrbaraste silver.
26Då ska du ha din glädje i den Väldige
och lyfta blicken upp till Gud.
27Då kommer du att be till honom,
han ska höra dig,
och du ska infria alla dina löften.
28Vad du än önskar få gjort ska lyckas,
och ljuset ska lysa på dina vägar.
29När de leder neråt, säger du: ”Uppåt!”
och han räddar den nertryckte.
30Han räddar också den som inte är oskyldig,
detta sker genom dina rena händer.
