Herren påminner om Israels upproriskhet
1I det sjunde året, på tionde dagen i femte månaden, kom några av de äldste i Israel för att rådfråga Herren, och de satte sig ner framför mig. 2Då kom Herrens ord till mig: 3”Du människa, tala till de äldste i Israel och säg: ’Så säger Herren, Herren: Kommer ni för att rådfråga mig? Så sant jag lever, jag låter er inte rådfråga mig, säger Herren, Herren.’
4Döm dem, döm dem, du människa! Låt dem få veta vilka avskyvärdheter som deras förfäder hållit på med! 5Säg till dem: ’Så säger Herren, Herren: När jag utvalde Israel svor jag en ed inför Jakobs ättlingar och gav mig till känna för dem i Egypten. Jag svor en ed och sa: ”Jag är Herren, er Gud.” 6Då lovade jag dem med en ed att föra dem ut ur Egypten till ett land som jag hade sett ut åt dem, ett land som flödade av mjölk och honung, det härligaste av alla länder. 7Jag sa till dem: ”Var och en av er ska göra sig av med de vidriga avgudar som ni fäst era ögon vid. Orena er inte med de egyptiska gudarna, för jag är Herren, er Gud.”
8Men de gjorde uppror mot mig och ville inte lyssna till mig. De gjorde sig inte av med de vidriga avgudar som deras ögon var fästa vid och övergav inte de egyptiska gudarna. Då tänkte jag tömma ut min vrede och ösa ut min förbittring över dem, mitt i Egypten. 9Men jag agerade för att mitt namn inte skulle vanhelgas inför de folk bland vilka de bodde och inför vilka jag hade gett mig till känna när jag förde dem ut ur Egypten.
10Därför ledde jag dem ut ur Egypten och ut i öknen. 11Jag gav dem mina bud och tillkännagav mina stadgar. – Den som håller dem får leva. – 12Jag gav dem också mina sabbater, som ett tecken mellan mig och dem, för att de ska inse att det är jag, Herren, som helgar dem.
13Men israeliterna var upproriska mot mig i öknen. De följde inte mina bud, och de förkastade mina stadgar. – Den som håller dem får leva. – De vanhelgade grovt mina sabbater. Då tänkte jag tömma ut min vrede över dem och utplåna dem. 14Men jag agerade för att mitt namn inte skulle vanhelgas inför de folk inför vilka jag förde ut dem. 15I öknen svor jag också dem en ed att inte leda dem in i det land som jag hade gett dem, ett land som flödar av mjölk och honung, det härligaste av alla länder. 16De hade ju förkastat mina stadgar och inte följt mina bud. De hade vanhelgat mina sabbater. Innerst inne var de nämligen hängivna sina avgudar. 17Men jag visade dem medlidande och förgjorde dem inte. Jag gjorde inte slut på dem i öknen. 18Jag sa till deras barn i öknen: ”Följ inte era förfäders bud. Håll inte deras stadgar. Orena er inte med deras avgudar. 19Jag är Herren, er Gud. Följ mina bud och håll noga mina stadgar. 20Håll mina sabbater heliga. De är ett tecken mellan mig och er, för att ni ska inse att jag är Herren, er Gud.”
21Men barnen gjorde uppror mot mig. De följde inte mina bud och brydde sig inte om mina stadgar. – Den som håller dem får leva. – De vanhelgade mina sabbater. Jag tänkte tömma ut min vrede och ösa ut min förbittring över dem i öknen. 22Men jag avstod, och jag agerade för att mitt namn inte skulle vanhelgas inför de folk, inför vilka jag förde ut dem. 23Jag svor dem en ed i öknen att jag skulle skingra dem bland folken och sprida ut dem till andra länder, 24därför att de inte lydde mina stadgar, utan förkastade mina bud. De vanhelgade mina sabbater och såg upp på sina förfäders avgudar. 25Jag gav dem också bud som inte var goda och stadgar som de inte kunde leva av. 26Jag lät dem orena sig med sina gåvor, när de offrade sina förstfödda, för jag ville sätta dem i skräck så att de skulle inse att jag är Herren.’
27Tala därför till israeliterna, du människa, och säg: ’Så säger Herren, Herren: Era förfäder har också hädat mig genom sin trolöshet. 28När jag ledde dem in i det land som jag med ed hade lovat att ge dem och när de såg alla höga kullar och lummiga träd, bar de fram sina slaktoffer där, förrättade sina offer i trots och tände välluktande rökelse och utgöt där sina dryckesoffer. 29Jag sa till dem: Vad är det för offerplats ni går till?’ ” – Det kallas ”Offerplatsen” än idag.
30”Säg därför till israeliterna: ’Så säger Herren, Herren: Ska ni orena er som era förfäder gjorde och trolöst hålla fast vid deras vidriga avgudar? 31Än idag orenar ni er med era avgudar, när ni offrar era barn i elden. Skulle jag då låta er, israeliter, rådfråga mig? Så sant jag lever, säger Herren, Herren, jag låter er inte rådfråga mig.
32Det som ni har tänkt ut kommer inte att ske, när ni säger: ”Vi vill bli som andra folk, folk i andra länder. Vi vill tjäna trä och sten.” 33Så sant jag lever, säger Herren, Herren, jag ska regera över er med järnhand, med utsträckt arm och med makt. 34Med järnhand och utsträckt arm och i vredesutbrott ska jag föra er bort från de främmande folken, och samla er från de länder där ni har blivit utspridda. 35Jag ska föra er till folkens öken och döma er där, ansikte mot ansikte. 36Precis som jag dömde era förfäder i Egyptens öken ska jag döma er, säger Herren, Herren. 37Jag ska låta er gå under herdestaven och föra er i förbundets band.20:37 När fåren räknades fick de gå under herdestaven, och enligt Septuaginta lyder också versen: Jag ska låta er gå under herdestaven och räkna er noga. 38Jag ska rensa bort från er de upproriska och dem som sätter sig upp mot mig. Jag ska leda dem bort från det land där de bor som främlingar. Då ska ni inse att jag är Herren.
39Israeliter! Så säger Herren, Herren: Gå ni och tjäna era avgudar, var och en av er! Men efteråt kommer ni sannerligen att lyssna till mig och inte mer vanhelga mitt heliga namn med era offergåvor och avgudar. 40På mitt heliga berg, det höga berget i Israel, säger Herren, ska hela Israel, alla som finns i landet, tjäna mig. Där ska jag välvilligt ta emot er. Där ska jag motta era gåvor och förstlingsoffer, alla era heliga offer. 41För mig kommer ni att vara som ett välluktande rökelseoffer, när jag leder er tillbaka från folken och samlar er från de länder där ni varit kringspridda. Jag ska visa mig helig bland er inför folken. 42Då ska ni inse att jag är Herren, när jag för er till Israels land, det land jag med ed lovade att ge era förfäder. 43Då ska ni tänka på ert leverne och alla era gärningar som ni orenat er med. Ni ska avsky er själva på grund av allt det onda ni gjort. 44Då ska ni inse att jag är Herren, när jag agerar så med er för mitt namns skull och inte efter ert onda leverne och era korrupta förehavanden, säger Herren, Herren.’ ”
Profetia mot landet i söder
45Herrens ord kom till mig: 46”Du människa, vänd dig söderut, predika mot söder och profetera för skogslandet i söder. 47Säg till sydlandets skog: ’Hör Herrens ord! Så säger Herren, Herren: Jag ska sätta dig i brand, och elden ska förtära varje grönt träd i dig, likväl som varje torrt träd. Den flammande lågan ska inte utsläckas. Alla ytor20:47 Ordagrant: ansikten; tanken kan också vara att allas ansikten sveddes. från söder till norr ska brännas av den. 48Då ska alla se att det är jag, Herren, som har tänt elden. Den ska inte släckas.’ ”
49Då sa jag: ”Min Herre, Herre, de säger om mig: ’Han talar väl i liknelser!’ ”

5¶ And say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; In the day when I chose Israel, and lifted up mine hand unto the seed of the house of Jacob, and made myself known unto them in the land of Egypt, when I lifted up mine hand unto them, saying, I am the LORD your God;20.5 lifted…: or, sware 6In the day that I lifted up mine hand unto them, to bring them forth of the land of Egypt into a land that I had espied for them, flowing with milk and honey, which is the glory of all lands: 7Then said I unto them, Cast ye away every man the abominations of his eyes, and defile not yourselves with the idols of Egypt: I am the LORD your God. 8But they rebelled against me, and would not hearken unto me: they did not every man cast away the abominations of their eyes, neither did they forsake the idols of Egypt: then I said, I will pour out my fury upon them, to accomplish my anger against them in the midst of the land of Egypt. 9But I wrought for my name’s sake, that it should not be polluted before the heathen, among whom they were, in whose sight I made myself known unto them, in bringing them forth out of the land of Egypt.
10¶ Wherefore I caused them to go forth out of the land of Egypt, and brought them into the wilderness. 11And I gave them my statutes, and shewed them my judgments, which if a man do, he shall even live in them.20.11 shewed…: Heb. made them to know 12Moreover also I gave them my sabbaths, to be a sign between me and them, that they might know that I am the LORD that sanctify them. 13But the house of Israel rebelled against me in the wilderness: they walked not in my statutes, and they despised my judgments, which if a man do, he shall even live in them; and my sabbaths they greatly polluted: then I said, I would pour out my fury upon them in the wilderness, to consume them. 14But I wrought for my name’s sake, that it should not be polluted before the heathen, in whose sight I brought them out. 15Yet also I lifted up my hand unto them in the wilderness, that I would not bring them into the land which I had given them, flowing with milk and honey, which is the glory of all lands; 16Because they despised my judgments, and walked not in my statutes, but polluted my sabbaths: for their heart went after their idols. 17Nevertheless mine eye spared them from destroying them, neither did I make an end of them in the wilderness. 18But I said unto their children in the wilderness, Walk ye not in the statutes of your fathers, neither observe their judgments, nor defile yourselves with their idols: 19I am the LORD your God; walk in my statutes, and keep my judgments, and do them; 20And hallow my sabbaths; and they shall be a sign between me and you, that ye may know that I am the LORD your God. 21Notwithstanding the children rebelled against me: they walked not in my statutes, neither kept my judgments to do them, which if a man do, he shall even live in them; they polluted my sabbaths: then I said, I would pour out my fury upon them, to accomplish my anger against them in the wilderness. 22Nevertheless I withdrew mine hand, and wrought for my name’s sake, that it should not be polluted in the sight of the heathen, in whose sight I brought them forth. 23I lifted up mine hand unto them also in the wilderness, that I would scatter them among the heathen, and disperse them through the countries; 24Because they had not executed my judgments, but had despised my statutes, and had polluted my sabbaths, and their eyes were after their fathers’ idols. 25Wherefore I gave them also statutes that were not good, and judgments whereby they should not live; 26And I polluted them in their own gifts, in that they caused to pass through the fire all that openeth the womb, that I might make them desolate, to the end that they might know that I am the LORD.
27¶ Therefore, son of man, speak unto the house of Israel, and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Yet in this your fathers have blasphemed me, in that they have committed a trespass against me.20.27 committed…: Heb. trespassed a trespass 28For when I had brought them into the land, for the which I lifted up mine hand to give it to them, then they saw every high hill, and all the thick trees, and they offered there their sacrifices, and there they presented the provocation of their offering: there also they made their sweet savour, and poured out there their drink offerings. 29Then I said unto them, What is the high place whereunto ye go? And the name thereof is called Bamah unto this day.20.29 I said…: or, I told them what the high place was, or, Bamah 30Wherefore say unto the house of Israel, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Are ye polluted after the manner of your fathers? and commit ye whoredom after their abominations? 31For when ye offer your gifts, when ye make your sons to pass through the fire, ye pollute yourselves with all your idols, even unto this day: and shall I be enquired of by you, O house of Israel? As I live, saith the Lord GOD, I will not be enquired of by you. 32And that which cometh into your mind shall not be at all, that ye say, We will be as the heathen, as the families of the countries, to serve wood and stone.
33¶ As I live, saith the Lord GOD, surely with a mighty hand, and with a stretched out arm, and with fury poured out, will I rule over you: 34And I will bring you out from the people, and will gather you out of the countries wherein ye are scattered, with a mighty hand, and with a stretched out arm, and with fury poured out. 35And I will bring you into the wilderness of the people, and there will I plead with you face to face. 36Like as I pleaded with your fathers in the wilderness of the land of Egypt, so will I plead with you, saith the Lord GOD. 37And I will cause you to pass under the rod, and I will bring you into the bond of the covenant:20.37 bond: or, delivering 38And I will purge out from among you the rebels, and them that transgress against me: I will bring them forth out of the country where they sojourn, and they shall not enter into the land of Israel: and ye shall know that I am the LORD. 39As for you, O house of Israel, thus saith the Lord GOD; Go ye, serve ye every one his idols, and hereafter also, if ye will not hearken unto me: but pollute ye my holy name no more with your gifts, and with your idols. 40For in mine holy mountain, in the mountain of the height of Israel, saith the Lord GOD, there shall all the house of Israel, all of them in the land, serve me: there will I accept them, and there will I require your offerings, and the firstfruits of your oblations, with all your holy things.20.40 firstfruits: or, chief 41I will accept you with your sweet savour, when I bring you out from the people, and gather you out of the countries wherein ye have been scattered; and I will be sanctified in you before the heathen.20.41 sweet…: Heb. savour of rest 42And ye shall know that I am the LORD, when I shall bring you into the land of Israel, into the country for the which I lifted up mine hand to give it to your fathers. 43And there shall ye remember your ways, and all your doings, wherein ye have been defiled; and ye shall lothe yourselves in your own sight for all your evils that ye have committed. 44And ye shall know that I am the LORD, when I have wrought with you for my name’s sake, not according to your wicked ways, nor according to your corrupt doings, O ye house of Israel, saith the Lord GOD.
45¶ Moreover the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, 46Son of man, set thy face toward the south, and drop thy word toward the south, and prophesy against the forest of the south field; 47And say to the forest of the south, Hear the word of the LORD; Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I will kindle a fire in thee, and it shall devour every green tree in thee, and every dry tree: the flaming flame shall not be quenched, and all faces from the south to the north shall be burned therein. 48And all flesh shall see that I the LORD have kindled it: it shall not be quenched. 49Then said I, Ah Lord GOD! they say of me, Doth he not speak parables?
