Naomi și Rut
1Pe vremea când judecau1 Cu sensul de a conduce. judecătorii, a fost o foamete în țară. Atunci un bărbat din Betleemul lui Iuda a plecat împreună cu soția lui și cu cei doi fii ai săi să locuiască temporar în câmpiile Moabului. 2Bărbatul se numea Elimelek, soția lui se numea Naomi, iar cei doi fii ai săi se numeau Mahlon și Chilion. Ei erau efratiți din Betleemul lui Iuda. Când au ajuns în câmpiile Moabului, s‑au stabilit acolo.
3Însă Elimelek, soțul lui Naomi, a murit, și ea a rămas astfel singură cu cei doi fii ai ei. 4Aceștia s‑au căsătorit cu moabite; numele uneia era Orpa, iar numele celeilalte era Rut. După ce au locuit acolo aproape zece ani, 5cei doi, adică Mahlon și Chilion, au murit și ei, astfel încât femeia a rămas singură, fără cele două odrasle ale ei și fără soțul său. 6Atunci ea s‑a ridicat, împreună cu nurorile ei, ca să se întoarcă acasă din câmpiile Moabului, căci, pe când era în regiunea Moabului, auzise că Domnul Își cercetase poporul și le dăduse hrană. 7Ea a ieșit din locul în care se afla, iar cele două nurori ale ei erau cu ea. Și au plecat la drum ca să se întoarcă în țara lui Iuda.
8Naomi le‑a zis totuși celor două nurori ale ei:
– Plecați! Întoarceți‑vă fiecare la casa mamei sale! Domnul să Se poarte față de voi cu bunătatea8 Ebr.: hesed, termen care apare frecvent (de peste 250 ori) în VT, având o varietate de sensuri (îndurare, bunătate, bunăvoință, milă, credincioșie, dragoste statornică). Se referă atât la relațiile dintre oameni, cât și, într‑un mod cu totul special, la relația dintre YHWH și Israel. Cel mai frecvent, se referă la loialitatea părților implicate în legământ (în special loialitatea lui YHWH, care este certă). Termenul, așa cum o dovedește varietatea de sensuri, cuprinde toate implicațiile loialității lui YHWH față de promisiunile legământului. cu care și voi v‑ați purtat față de cei ce au murit și față de mine! 9Să dea Domnul ca fiecare din voi să găsească odihnă în casa viitorului soț!
Apoi le‑a dat sărutare, iar ele și‑au ridicat glasul și au plâns.
10Ele i‑au zis:
– Nu! Vom merge cu tine la poporul tău.
11Dar Naomi a răspuns:
– Întoarceți‑vă, fiicele mele! De ce să veniți cu mine? Mai am eu oare fii în pântecul meu, care să vă fie apoi soți? 12Întoarceți‑vă, fiicele mele! Plecați! Căci eu sunt prea bătrână să mă mai mărit. Chiar dacă aș zice că mai este speranță pentru mine, chiar dacă m‑aș mărita în noaptea aceasta și aș naște fii, 13ați aștepta voi până s‑ar face mari? V‑ați păstra voi pentru ei, fără să vă măritați? Nu, fiicele mele! Eu sunt mult mai amărâtă decât voi13 Sau: mele! Amărăciunea mea este prea mare pentru voi., căci mâna Domnului s‑a întins împotriva mea!
14Ele și‑au ridicat glasul și au plâns din nou. Orpa i‑a dat sărutare soacrei sale și a plecat, dar Rut s‑a ținut de ea.
15Naomi a zis:
– Iată, cumnata ta s‑a întors la poporul ei și la dumnezeii ei! Du‑te și tu după cumnata ta!
16Rut a răspuns:
– Nu insista să te părăsesc și să mă întorc de la tine. Căci unde mergi tu, voi merge și eu. Unde vei înnopta tu, voi înnopta și eu. Poporul tău va fi și poporul meu, iar Dumnezeul tău va fi Dumnezeul meu. 17Unde vei muri tu, voi muri și eu, și tot acolo voi fi și îngropată. Domnul să Se poarte cu mine cu toată asprimea17 Formulă tipică de jurământ (lit.: Așa să‑mi facă Domnul și chiar mai mult). dacă altceva, în afară de moarte, mă va despărți de tine!
18Văzând‑o hotărâtă să meargă cu ea, Naomi a încetat să‑i mai vorbească astfel. 19Cele două au călătorit până au ajuns la Betleem. Când au intrat în Betleem, în toată cetatea a fost multă forfotă pe seama lor.
Femeile se întrebau:
– Aceasta este Naomi?
20Ea le‑a zis:
– Nu mă mai numiți Naomi20-21 Naomi înseamnă Plăcută., ci numiți‑mă Mara20 Mara înseamnă Amară., pentru că Cel Atotputernic20-21 Ebr.: Șadai. m‑a amărât mult. 21Când am plecat, aveam de toate, dar Domnul m‑a adus înapoi cu mâinile goale. De ce să mă mai numiți Naomi, de vreme ce Domnul a mărturisit împotriva mea și Cel Atotputernic a adus necazul asupra mea?21 Sau: m‑a făcut să sufăr? LXX: m‑a smerit?
22Așa s‑a întors Naomi din câmpiile Moabului împreună cu moabita Rut, nora ei. Ele au sosit în Betleem, tocmai când începea seceratul orzului.
1Now it came to pass in the days when the judges ruled, that there was a famine in the land. And a certain man of Beth-lehem-judah went to sojourn in the country of Moab, he, and his wife, and his two sons.1.1 ruled: Heb. judged 2And the name of the man was Elimelech, and the name of his wife Naomi, and the name of his two sons Mahlon and Chilion, Ephrathites of Beth-lehem-judah. And they came into the country of Moab, and continued there.1.2 continued: Heb. were 3And Elimelech Naomi’s husband died; and she was left, and her two sons. 4And they took them wives of the women of Moab; the name of the one was Orpah, and the name of the other Ruth: and they dwelled there about ten years. 5And Mahlon and Chilion died also both of them; and the woman was left of her two sons and her husband.
6¶ Then she arose with her daughters in law, that she might return from the country of Moab: for she had heard in the country of Moab how that the LORD had visited his people in giving them bread. 7Wherefore she went forth out of the place where she was, and her two daughters in law with her; and they went on the way to return unto the land of Judah. 8And Naomi said unto her two daughters in law, Go, return each to her mother’s house: the LORD deal kindly with you, as ye have dealt with the dead, and with me. 9The LORD grant you that ye may find rest, each of you in the house of her husband. Then she kissed them; and they lifted up their voice, and wept. 10And they said unto her, Surely we will return with thee unto thy people. 11And Naomi said, Turn again, my daughters: why will ye go with me? are there yet any more sons in my womb, that they may be your husbands? 12Turn again, my daughters, go your way; for I am too old to have an husband. If I should say, I have hope, if I should have an husband also to night, and should also bear sons;1.12 should have…: or were with an husband 13Would ye tarry for them till they were grown? would ye stay for them from having husbands? nay, my daughters; for it grieveth me much for your sakes that the hand of the LORD is gone out against me.1.13 tarry: Heb. hope1.13 it grieveth…: Heb. I have much bitterness 14And they lifted up their voice, and wept again: and Orpah kissed her mother in law; but Ruth clave unto her. 15And she said, Behold, thy sister in law is gone back unto her people, and unto her gods: return thou after thy sister in law. 16And Ruth said, Intreat me not to leave thee, or to return from following after thee: for whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God:1.16 Intreat…: or, Be not against me 17Where thou diest, will I die, and there will I be buried: the LORD do so to me, and more also, if ought but death part thee and me. 18When she saw that she was stedfastly minded to go with her, then she left speaking unto her.1.18 was…: Heb. strengthened herself
19¶ So they two went until they came to Beth-lehem. And it came to pass, when they were come to Beth-lehem, that all the city was moved about them, and they said, Is this Naomi? 20And she said unto them, Call me not Naomi, call me Mara: for the Almighty hath dealt very bitterly with me.1.20 Naomi: that is, Pleasant1.20 Mara: that is, Bitter 21I went out full, and the LORD hath brought me home again empty: why then call ye me Naomi, seeing the LORD hath testified against me, and the Almighty hath afflicted me? 22So Naomi returned, and Ruth the Moabitess, her daughter in law, with her, which returned out of the country of Moab: and they came to Beth-lehem in the beginning of barley harvest.
