Rămășița lui Israel
1Atunci întreb: Și‑a respins Dumnezeu poporul? În niciun caz! Căci și eu sunt israelit, din sămânța lui Avraam, din seminția lui Beniamin. 2Dumnezeu nu Și‑a respins poporul, pe care l‑a cunoscut mai dinainte. Nu știți ce spune Scriptura despre Ilie, cum se roagă el lui Dumnezeu împotriva lui Israel?
3„Doamne, Ți‑au omorât profeții,
Ți‑au dărâmat altarele.
Numai eu singur am mai rămas,
iar ei încearcă să‑mi ia viața.“3 Vezi 1 Regi 19:10, 14.
4Dar ce i‑a răspuns Dumnezeu4 Lit.: oracolul divin.?
„Mi‑am păstrat șapte mii de bărbați
care nu și‑au aplecat genunchiul înaintea lui Baal4 Zeul canaanit al fertilității..“4 Vezi 1 Regi 19:18.
5Tot așa este și în vremea de acum: există o rămășiță potrivit alegerii harului, 6iar dacă este prin har, atunci nu mai este prin fapte, pentru că altfel harul n‑ar mai fi har. 7Ce putem spune atunci? Israel n‑a obținut ceea ce căuta, dar cei aleși au obținut. Iar ceilalți au fost împietriți, 8așa cum este scris:
„Dumnezeu le‑a dat un duh de adormire,
ochi să nu vadă
și urechi să nu audă,
până în ziua de azi.“8 Vezi Deut. 29:4; Is. 29:10.
9Iar David spune:
„Să li se prefacă masa într‑o cursă, într‑un laț,
într‑o capcană9 Gr.: skandalon, termen care se referă strict la bățul care declanșează o capcană, dar care cuprinde în aria sa semantică mai multe sensuri: ceea ce împinge o persoană să păcătuiască; prilej de cădere; cauză de poticnire. și o răsplătire pe măsură!
10Să li se întunece ochii ca să nu mai vadă!
Fă să li se încovoaie mereu spinarea!“10 Vezi Ps. 69:22-23 în versiunea LXX.
Mântuirea neamurilor
11Prin urmare, întreb: s‑au împiedicat ei ca să cadă? În niciun caz, ci, datorită alunecării11 Gr.: paraptoma, al cărui sens de bază este a călca alături. lor, mântuirea a ajuns la neamuri, pentru a‑i face pe israeliți geloși. 12Deci, dacă alunecarea lor a fost bogăție pentru lume, iar înfrângerea lor a fost bogăție pentru neamuri, cu cât mai mult va fi întoarcerea lor deplină12 Lit.: cu cât mai mult plinătatea lor.!?
13Acum vă vorbesc vouă, neamurilor: întrucât sunt un apostol al neamurilor, eu îmi glorific slujirea, 14încercând cumva să stârnesc gelozia neamului meu și să‑i salvez astfel pe unii dintre ei. 15Căci dacă respingerea15 Sau: alungarea. lor a adus împăcarea lumii, ce va aduce atunci primirea lor, dacă nu viață din morți?! 16Iar dacă cel dintâi rod este sfânt, atunci și aluatul este sfânt16 Vezi Num. 15:17-21. Avraam și patriarhii sunt reprezentați prin partea de aluat oferită drept cel dintâi rod, iar întregul aluat îi reprezintă pe urmașii lor, israeliții.; și dacă rădăcina este sfântă, atunci și ramurile sunt sfinte.
17Dar dacă unele ramuri au fost rupte și tu, care ești o ramură de măslin sălbatic, ai fost altoită printre ele și ai devenit părtașă la rădăcina17 Cu referire la patriarhi. și rodnicia măslinului, 18nu te lăuda față de ramuri! Dacă te lauzi, amintește‑ți că nu tu susții rădăcina, ci rădăcina te susține pe tine! 19Vei spune: „Ramurile au fost rupte ca să fiu altoit eu!“ 20Așa este. Ele au fost rupte prin necredință, iar tu stai în picioare prin credință! Așadar, nu te îngâmfa, ci teme‑te! 21Căci, dacă n‑a cruțat Dumnezeu ramurile naturale, nu te va cruța nici pe tine! 22Uită‑te deci la bunătatea și la asprimea lui Dumnezeu: asprime față de cei care au căzut și bunătate față de tine, dacă rămâi în bunătatea Lui. Altfel, și tu vei fi tăiat. 23Chiar și ei, dacă nu persistă în necredință, vor fi altoiți, pentru că Dumnezeu este în stare să‑i altoiască din nou. 24Căci dacă tu ai fost tăiat din ceea ce, prin natura sa, este un măslin sălbatic și ai fost altoit, împotriva naturii tale, într‑un măslin bun, cu cât mai mult vor fi altoiți aceștia, care sunt ramuri naturale, în propriul lor măslin!?
Întregul Israel va fi mântuit
25Căci nu vreau să nu știți taina25 În NT, prin taină se înțelege ceva ce înainte nu fusese cunoscut, dar care acum este descoperit de Dumnezeu poporului Său. Taina este descoperită tuturor, însă numai cei ce au credință o înțeleg, contrar religiilor misterelor, foarte răspândite la acea vreme în lumea greco-romană, care susțineau că tainele erau cunoscute numai de către cei inițiați. aceasta, fraților, ca să nu credeți în voi înșivă că sunteți înțelepți: o parte din Israel a căzut în împietrire,25 Sau: o împietrire parțială i s‑a întâmplat lui Israel. până când va intra numărul deplin al neamurilor.25 Lit.: până când va intra plinătatea neamurilor. 26Și astfel26 Sau: atunci. tot Israelul va fi mântuit26 Propoziția aceasta a fost interpretată în două direcții majore: (1) numărul total al evreilor care au fost mântuiți în toate generațiile (tot Israelul fiind echivalent cu numărul complet al neamurilor din v. 25); (2) cea mai mare parte a evreilor din ultima generație. Un lucru este clar, anume că nimeni, atât dintre evrei, cât și dintre neamuri, nu va fi mântuit într‑un mod colectiv, ci numai pe baza credinței în Isus Cristos cel înviat; vezi v. 23., după cum este scris:
„Eliberatorul va veni din Sion;
El va îndepărta neevlavia26 Termenul grecesc este la plural și include atât faptele/acțiunile/lucrările lipsite de evlavie, cât și gândurile/atitudinile neevlavioase. de la Iacov.
27Acesta este legământul Meu cu ei,
când le voi înlătura păcatele.“27 Vezi Is. 59:20-21; 27:9; Ier. 31:33-34.
28În ce privește Evanghelia, ei sunt dușmani din cauza voastră, însă, în ce privește alegerea, ei sunt iubiți datorită patriarhilor. 29Fiindcă darurile și chemarea lui Dumnezeu sunt fără regret. 30Căci așa cum voi ați fost cândva neascultători față de Dumnezeu, dar acum vi s‑a arătat milă prin neascultarea acestora, 31tot astfel și ei sunt acum neascultători, pentru ca, prin mila arătată vouă, să poată primi și ei acum31 Unele mss redau: în cele din urmă. milă. 32Căci Dumnezeu i‑a închis pe toți în neascultare, ca să aibă milă de toți.
Laudă lui Dumnezeu
33O, adâncul bogăției, înțelepciunii și cunoașterii lui Dumnezeu!
Cât de nepătrunse sunt judecățile Lui
și cât de neînțelese sunt căile Lui!
34„Căci cine a cunoscut gândul Domnului?
Sau cine a fost sfătuitorul Lui?34 Vezi Is. 40:13 în versiunea LXX.
35Sau cine I‑a dat mai întâi ceva,
ca El să trebuiască să‑i dea înapoi?“35 Vezi Iov 41:11.
36Fiindcă din El, prin El și pentru El sunt toate lucrurile.
A Lui să fie slava în veci! Amin.
The Israelites Who Are Faithful
1So here is what I ask. Did God turn his back on his people? Not at all! I myself belong to Israel. I am one of Abraham’s children. I am from the tribe of Benjamin. 2God didn’t turn his back on his people. After all, he chose them. Don’t you know what Scripture says about Elijah? He complained to God about Israel. 3He said, “Lord, they have killed your prophets. They have torn down your altars. I’m the only one left. And they are trying to kill me.” (1 Kings 19:10,14) 4How did God answer him? God said, “I have kept 7,000 people for myself. They have not bowed down to Baal.” (1 Kings 19:18) 5Some are also faithful today. They have been chosen by God’s grace. 6And if they are chosen by grace, then they can’t work for it. If that were true, grace wouldn’t be grace anymore.
7What should we say then? The people of Israel did not receive what they wanted so badly. Those Israelites who were chosen did receive it. But the rest of the people were made stubborn. 8It is written,
“God made it hard for them to understand.
He gave them eyes that could not see.
He gave them ears that could not hear.
And they are still like that today.” (Deuteronomy 29:4; Isaiah 29:10)
9David says,
“Let their feast be a trap and a snare.
Let them trip and fall. Let them get what’s coming to them.
10Let their eyes grow dark so they can’t see.
Let their backs be bent forever.” (Psalm 69:22,23)
Two Kinds of Olive Branches
11Again, here is what I ask. The Israelites didn’t trip and fall once and for all time, did they? Not at all! Because Israel sinned, the Gentiles can be saved. That will make Israel jealous of them. 12Israel’s sin brought riches to the world. Their loss brings riches to the Gentiles. So then what greater riches will come when all Israel turns to God!
13I am talking to you who are not Jews. I am the apostle to the Gentiles. So I take pride in the work I do for God and others. 14I hope somehow to stir up my own people to want what you have. Perhaps I can save some of them. 15When they were not accepted, it became possible for the whole world to be brought back to God. So what will happen when they are accepted? It will be like life from the dead. 16The first handful of dough that is offered is holy. This makes all of the dough holy. If the root is holy, so are the branches.
17Some of the natural branches have been broken off. You are a wild olive branch. But you have been joined to the tree with the other branches. Now you enjoy the life-giving sap of the olive tree root. 18So don’t think you are better than the other branches. Remember, you don’t give life to the root. The root gives life to you. 19You will say, “Some branches were broken off so that I could be joined to the tree.” 20That’s true. But they were broken off because they didn’t believe. You stand only because you do believe. So don’t be proud, but tremble. 21God didn’t spare the natural branches. He won’t spare you either.
22Think about how kind God is! Also think about how firm he is! He was hard on those who stopped following him. But he is kind to you. So you must continue to live in his kindness. If you don’t, you also will be cut off. 23If the people of Israel do not continue in their unbelief, they will again be joined to the tree. God is able to join them to the tree again. 24After all, weren’t you cut from a wild olive tree? Weren’t you joined to an olive tree that was taken care of? And wasn’t that the opposite of how things should be done? How much more easily will the natural branches be joined to their own olive tree!
All Israel Will Be Saved
25Brothers and sisters, here is a mystery I want you to understand. It will keep you from being proud. Part of Israel has refused to obey God. That will continue until the full number of Gentiles has entered God’s kingdom. 26In this way all Israel will be saved. It is written,
“The God who saves will come from Mount Zion.
He will remove sin from Jacob’s family.
27Here is my covenant with them.
I will take away their sins.” (Isaiah 59:20,21; 27:9; Jeremiah 31:33,34)
28As far as the good news is concerned, the people of Israel are enemies. This is for your good. But as far as God’s choice is concerned, the people of Israel are loved. This is because of God’s promises to the founders of our nation. 29God does not take back his gifts. He does not change his mind about those he has chosen. 30At one time you did not obey God. But now you have received mercy because Israel did not obey. 31In the same way, Israel has not been obeying God. But now they receive mercy because of God’s mercy to you. 32God has found everyone guilty of not obeying him. So now he can have mercy on everyone.
Praise to God
33How very rich are God’s wisdom and knowledge!
How he judges is more than we can understand!
The way he deals with people is more than we can know!
34“Who can ever know what the Lord is thinking?
Or who can ever give him advice?” (Isaiah 40:13)
35“Has anyone ever given anything to God,
so that God has to pay them back?” (Job 41:11)
36All things come from him.
All things are directed by him.
All things are for his praise.
May God be given the glory forever! Amen.
