Psalmul 79
Un psalm al lui Asaf.
1Dumnezeule, au intrat neamurile pe proprietatea Ta,
au întinat Templul Tău cel sfânt
și au prefăcut Ierusalimul în ruine!
2Au dat cadavrele robilor Tăi
ca hrană păsărilor cerului,
și carnea credincioșilor Tăi vietăților pământului.
3Le‑au vărsat sângele
așa cum se varsă apa împrejurul Ierusalimului
și nu s‑a găsit nimeni care să‑i îngroape.
4Am fost de disprețul vecinilor noștri,
de batjocura și de râsul celor ce ne înconjoară.
5Până când vei mai fi mânios, Doamne? Pentru totdeauna?
Până când va mai arde gelozia Ta ca focul?
6Varsă‑Ți mânia peste neamurile care nu Te cunosc
și peste regatele care nu cheamă Numele Tău,
7căci l‑au devorat pe Iacov
și i‑au nimicit locuința.
8Nu‑Ți aminti de nelegiuirile noastre dintâi8 Sau: de păcatele înaintașilor noștri.!
Grăbește‑Te să ne ieși înainte cu mila Ta,
căci suntem foarte nenorociți.
9Ajută‑ne, Dumnezeul mântuirii noastre,
pentru slava Numelui Tău!
Scapă‑ne și fă ispășire pentru păcatele noastre
datorită Numelui Tău!
10De ce să zică neamurile:
„Unde este Dumnezeul lor?“
Să se facă cunoscut printre neamuri, înaintea ochilor noștri,
răzbunarea pentru sângele vărsat al robilor Tăi!
11Fie să ajungă la Tine strigătul prizonierilor;
prin tăria brațului Tău, scapă‑i pe cei condamnați la moarte!
12Răsplătește‑le vecinilor noștri înșeptit în sânul lor
insulta cu care Te‑au insultat, Stăpâne!
13Atunci noi, poporul Tău, turma pășunii Tale,
Îți vom mulțumi mereu,
vom vesti laudele Tale din generație în generație!

2The dead bodies of thy servants have they given to be meat unto the fowls of the heaven, the flesh of thy saints unto the beasts of the earth.
3Their blood have they shed like water round about Jerusalem; and there was none to bury them.
4We are become a reproach to our neighbours, a scorn and derision to them that are round about us.
5How long, LORD? wilt thou be angry for ever? shall thy jealousy burn like fire?
6Pour out thy wrath upon the heathen that have not known thee, and upon the kingdoms that have not called upon thy name.
7For they have devoured Jacob, and laid waste his dwelling place.
8O remember not against us former iniquities: let thy tender mercies speedily prevent us: for we are brought very low.79.8 former…: or, the iniquities of them that were before us
9Help us, O God of our salvation, for the glory of thy name: and deliver us, and purge away our sins, for thy name’s sake.
10Wherefore should the heathen say, Where is their God? let him be known among the heathen in our sight by the revenging of the blood of thy servants which is shed.79.10 revenging: Heb. vengeance

12And render unto our neighbours sevenfold into their bosom their reproach, wherewith they have reproached thee, O Lord.
