Dragostea lui Dumnezeu pentru Israel
1„Când Israel era doar un copil, îl iubeam
și l‑am chemat pe fiul Meu din Egipt.
2Cu cât îi chemau profeții,
cu atât se îndepărtau de ei;
jertfeau baalilor2 Vezi nota de la 2:13.
și ardeau tămâie chipurilor cioplite.
3Eu l‑am învățat pe Efraim să meargă,
luându‑l în brațe,
dar ei n‑au recunoscut
că Eu i‑am vindecat.
4I‑am tras cu funii omenești,
cu legături de dragoste.
Am fost pentru ei asemenea celor ce‑și ridică copiii până la obraji,
și M‑am aplecat spre ei ca să‑i hrănesc.
5Dar oare nu se vor întoarce în țara Egiptului,5 Sau: Nu se vor mai întoarce în țara Egiptului.
și nu va fi asirianul împăratul lor,
pentru că au refuzat să se pocăiască?
6Sabia se va dezlănțui în cetățile lor,
le va distruge zăvoarele porților
și‑i va devora din cauza planurilor lor rele.6 Sau: lor, / îi va nimici pe falșii lor profeți, / îi va devora din cauza sfaturilor lor.
7Dar poporul Meu este pornit la necredincioșie față de Mine.
De aceea, chiar dacă Îl vor striga pe Cel Preaînalt,
El nu‑i va înălța nicidecum.
8Cum să te dau, Efraim?
Cum să te predau, Israel?
Cum aș putea să‑ți fac ca Admei?
Sau să Mă port cu tine ca și cu Țeboimul?
Mi se zbate inima în Mine
și toată ființa‑Mi freamătă de compasiune.
9Nu voi lucra după mânia Mea cea aprigă,
nu Mă voi întoarce să‑l distrug pe Efraim,
căci Eu sunt Dumnezeu, nu un om,
sunt Cel Sfânt din mijlocul tău
și nu voi veni cu mânie.9 Sau: împotriva niciunei cetăți.
10Ei vor merge după Domnul
Care va rage ca un leu.
Când El va rage,
fiii Lui vor veni tremurând din apus.
11Vor veni tremurând
ca păsările din Egipt
și ca porumbeii din Asiria,
iar Eu îi voi așeza în casele lor,“
zice Domnul.
Păcatul poporului
12Efraim însă M‑a înconjurat cu minciună,
iar Casa lui Israel – cu înșelătorie.
Cât despre Iuda, el încă rătăcește față de12 Sau: el este încă răzvrătit împotriva lui… Dumnezeu,
față de Cel Sfânt și Credincios12 Sau: Iuda, el încă umblă cu Dumnezeu, / cu Cel Sfânt și Credincios (sau Care este credincios; sau fiindu‑I credincios)..
God Loves Israel
1The Lord continues,
“When Israel was a young nation, I loved them.
I chose to bring my son out of Egypt.
2But the more I called out to Israel,
the more they went away from me.
They brought sacrifices to the statues of the gods
that were named Baal.
And they burned incense to them.
3I taught Ephraim to walk.
I took them up in my arms.
But they did not realize
I was the one who took care of them.
4I led them with kindness and love.
I was to them like a person who lifts
a little child to their cheek.
I bent down and fed them.
5“But they refuse to turn away from their sins.
So they will return to Egypt.
And Assyria will rule over them.
6A sword will flash in their cities.
It will destroy the prophets who teach lies.
It will bring an end to their plans.
7My people have made up their minds
to turn away from me.
Even if they call me the Most High God,
I will certainly not honor them.”
8The Lord continues,
“People of Ephraim, how can I give you up?
Israel, how can I hand you over to your enemies?
Can I destroy you as I did the town of Admah?
Can I treat you like Zeboyim?
My heart is stirred inside me.
It is filled with pity for you.
9I will not be so angry with you anymore.
I will not completely destroy you again.
After all, I am God.
I am not a mere man.
I am the Holy One among you.
I will not direct my anger against their cities.
10I will roar like a lion against my enemies.
Then the Lord’s people will follow him.
When he roars, his children will come home trembling with fear.
They will return from the west.
11They will come from Egypt, trembling like sparrows.
They will return from Assyria, flying in like doves.
I will settle you again in your homes,”
announces the Lord.
Israel Has Sinned
12The people of Ephraim tell me nothing but lies.
Israel has not been honest with me.
And Judah continues to wander away from God.
They have deserted the faithful Holy One.
