Intrarea triumfală în Ierusalim
(Mt. 21:1-9; Lc. 19:28-38; In. 12:12-15)
1Când s‑au apropiat de Ierusalim și au ajuns la Betfaghe și Betania, înspre Muntele Măslinilor, Isus i‑a trimis pe doi dintre ucenicii Săi, 2zicându‑le: „Duceți‑vă în satul dinaintea voastră. De îndată ce intrați în el, veți găsi un măgăruș legat, pe care n‑a încălecat încă niciun om. Dezlegați‑l și aduceți‑l! 3Dacă vă va spune cineva: «De ce faceți aceasta?», să‑i ziceți: «Domnul are nevoie de el.» Și imediat îl va trimite înapoi aici.“ 4Ei s‑au dus, au găsit măgărușul legat lângă ușă, afară în stradă, și l‑au dezlegat. 5Unii dintre cei care stăteau acolo i‑au întrebat: „Ce faceți? De ce dezlegați măgărușul?“ 6Ei le‑au zis așa cum le spusese Isus și aceștia i‑au lăsat să plece. 7Au adus măgărușul la Isus, și‑au pus hainele peste el, iar Isus a șezut pe el. 8Mulți își așterneau hainele pe drum,8 Omagiu adus unui rege (vezi 2 Regi 9:13). iar alții împrăștiau ramuri pe care le tăiaseră de pe câmpuri. 9Cei care mergeau înainte și cei care‑L urmau strigau:
„Osana!9 Gr.: hosanna, o transliterare în greacă a sintagmei ebraice hoșia na. În limba română s‑a înrădăcinat sub forma Osana. Sintagma provine din Ps. 118:25: Oh, DOAMNE, Te rugăm, mântuiește! (anna YHWH hoșia na). Cuvântul hoșia este un verb la imperativ, care tradus înseamnă: mântuiește. Particula na amplifică valoarea emfatică a imperativului și înseamnă te rog/te rugăm. De observat că litera ebraică ș (sh) n‑a putut fi redată în LXX (traducerea în greacă a VT ebraic) din cauză că nu există în alfabetul grecesc. Acolo cuvântul începe cu accentul răspicat pe litera o, care îl transformă într‑un h: hosanna. Vulgata păstrează forma Osanna.

Blestemarea smochinului neroditor
(Mt. 21:18-19)
11A intrat în Ierusalim, în Templu, S‑a uitat de jur‑împrejur la toate lucrurile și, pentru că era deja seara târziu, S‑a dus la Betania împreună cu cei doisprezece.
12În ziua următoare, după ce au ieșit din Betania, lui Isus I s‑a făcut foame. 13A văzut de departe un smochin care avea frunze și S‑a dus să vadă dacă va găsi ceva în el. Dar, când a ajuns la el, n‑a găsit nimic în el, în afară de frunze, pentru că nu era vremea smochinelor. 14Atunci i‑a zis: „În veci să nu mai mănânce nimeni rod din tine!“ Ucenicii Lui au auzit aceste cuvinte.
Isus alungă comercianții din Templu
(Mt. 21:12-22; Lc. 19:45-47; In. 2:13-16)
15Au ajuns în Ierusalim. El a intrat în Templu și a început să‑i scoată afară pe cei ce vindeau și cumpărau în Templu. A răsturnat mesele schimbătorilor de bani și scaunele celor ce vindeau porumbei 16și nu lăsa pe nimeni să ducă vreun vas16 Sau: vreun lucru, vreun obiect. prin Templu. 17El îi învăța și le zicea: „Oare nu este scris:
«Casa Mea va fi numită
o casă de rugăciune pentru toate neamurile.»17 Vezi Is. 56:7.?
Dar voi ați făcut din ea o peșteră de tâlhari!“17 Vezi Ier. 7:11.
18Conducătorii preoților și cărturarii au auzit lucrul acesta și căutau cum să‑L omoare, pentru că se temeau de El, deoarece întreaga mulțime era uimită de învățătura Lui. 19Și ori de câte ori se făcea târziu, Isus și ucenicii Lui19 Lit.: ei. Unele mss conțin: El. ieșeau afară din cetate.
Puterea credinței
(Mt. 21:20-22; 6:14)
20Dimineața, când au trecut pe lângă smochin, au văzut că era uscat din rădăcini.
21Petru și‑a amintit ce se întâmplase și i‑a zis:
– Rabbi21 Vezi nota de la 9:5., iată că smochinul pe care l‑ai blestemat s‑a uscat!
22Isus, răspunzând, le‑a zis:
– Aveți credință în Dumnezeu! 23Adevărat vă spun că22-23 Unele mss redau: 22 Isus, răspunzând, le‑a zis: Dacă aveți credință în Dumnezeu 23 adevărat vă spun că., dacă cineva ar zice acestui munte: „Ridică‑te și aruncă‑te în mare!“ și nu s‑ar îndoi în inima lui, ci ar crede că se va întâmpla ceea ce spune, i se va da întocmai. 24De aceea vă spun ca toate lucrurile pe care le cereți atunci când vă rugați, să credeți că le‑ați și primit, și ele vi se vor da. 25Și când stați în picioare rugându‑vă, să iertați dacă aveți ceva împotriva cuiva, pentru ca și Tatăl vostru Care este în ceruri să vă ierte vouă nelegiuirile25 Gr.: paraptoma, termen care înseamnă a călca alături.. 26Dar dacă nu iertați, nici Tatăl vostru Care este în ceruri nu vă va ierta nelegiuirile.
Autoritatea lui Isus
(Mt. 21:23-27; Lc. 20:1-8)
27Au intrat apoi din nou în Ierusalim.
În timp ce se plimba prin Templu, au venit la El conducătorii preoților, cărturarii și bătrânii 28și L‑au întrebat:
– Cu ce autoritate faci aceste lucruri? Și cine Ți‑a dat această autoritate ca să le faci?
29Isus le‑a zis:
– Vă voi întreba un singur lucru. Răspundeți‑Mi și vă voi spune cu ce autoritate fac aceste lucruri. 30Botezul lui Ioan era din cer sau de la oameni? Răspundeți‑Mi!
31Ei însă vorbeau între ei, zicând: „Dacă vom răspunde: «Din cer!», va întreba: «Atunci de ce nu l‑ați crezut?» 32Sau să răspundem: «De la oameni!»?“ Ei se temeau de mulțime, fiindcă toți considerau că Ioan a fost într-adevăr un profet.
33Așa că, răspunzându‑I lui Isus, au zis:
– Nu știm!
Atunci Isus le‑a zis:
– Nici Eu nu vă spun cu ce autoritate fac aceste lucruri.
Jesus comes to Jerusalem as king
1As they approached Jerusalem and came to Bethphage and Bethany at the Mount of Olives, Jesus sent two of his disciples, 2saying to them, ‘Go to the village ahead of you, and just as you enter it, you will find a colt tied there, which no-one has ever ridden. Untie it and bring it here. 3If anyone asks you, “Why are you doing this?” say, “The Lord needs it and will send it back here shortly.” ’
4They went and found a colt outside in the street, tied at a doorway. As they untied it, 5some people standing there asked, ‘What are you doing, untying that colt?’ 6They answered as Jesus had told them to, and the people let them go. 7When they brought the colt to Jesus and threw their cloaks over it, he sat on it. 8Many people spread their cloaks on the road, while others spread branches they had cut in the fields. 9Those who went ahead and those who followed shouted,
‘Hosanna!11:9 A Hebrew expression meaning ‘Save!’ which became an exclamation of praise; also in verse 10’
‘Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!’11:9 Psalm 118:25,26

‘Hosanna in the highest heaven!’
11Jesus entered Jerusalem and went into the temple courts. He looked around at everything, but since it was already late, he went out to Bethany with the Twelve.
Jesus curses a fig-tree and clears the temple courts
12The next day as they were leaving Bethany, Jesus was hungry. 13Seeing in the distance a fig-tree in leaf, he went to find out if it had any fruit. When he reached it, he found nothing but leaves, because it was not the season for figs. 14Then he said to the tree, ‘May no-one ever eat fruit from you again.’ And his disciples heard him say it.
15On reaching Jerusalem, Jesus entered the temple courts and began driving out those who were buying and selling there. He overturned the tables of the money-changers and the benches of those selling doves, 16and would not allow anyone to carry merchandise through the temple courts. 17And as he taught them, he said, ‘Is it not written: “My house will be called a house of prayer for all nations”11:17 Isaiah 56:7? But you have made it “a den of robbers”.11:17 Jer. 7:11’
18The chief priests and the teachers of the law heard this and began looking for a way to kill him, for they feared him, because the whole crowd was amazed at his teaching.
19When evening came, Jesus and his disciples11:19 Some early manuscripts came, Jesus went out of the city.
20In the morning, as they went along, they saw the fig-tree withered from the roots. 21Peter remembered and said to Jesus, ‘Rabbi, look! The fig-tree you cursed has withered!’
22‘Have faith in God,’ Jesus answered. 23‘Truly11:22,23 Some early manuscripts ‘If you have faith in God,’ Jesus answered, 23 ‘truly I tell you, if anyone says to this mountain, “Go, throw yourself into the sea,” and does not doubt in their heart but believes that what they say will happen, it will be done for them. 24Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. 25And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive them, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins.’ 2611:26 Some manuscripts include here words similar to Matt. 6:15.
The authority of Jesus questioned
27They arrived again in Jerusalem, and while Jesus was walking in the temple courts, the chief priests, the teachers of the law and the elders came to him. 28‘By what authority are you doing these things?’ they asked. ‘And who gave you authority to do this?’
29Jesus replied, ‘I will ask you one question. Answer me, and I will tell you by what authority I am doing these things. 30John’s baptism – was it from heaven, or of human origin? Tell me!’
31They discussed it among themselves and said, ‘If we say, “From heaven,” he will ask, “Then why didn’t you believe him?” 32But if we say, “Of human origin” …’ (They feared the people, for everyone held that John really was a prophet.)
33So they answered Jesus, ‘We don’t know.’
Jesus said, ‘Neither will I tell you by what authority I am doing these things.’
