Isus și Zacheu
1Isus a intrat în Ierihon și trecea prin cetate. 2Și iată că un om, pe nume Zacheu, care era șeful colectorilor de taxe și care era bogat, 3căuta să vadă care este Isus, dar nu putea din cauza mulțimii, căci era mic de statură. 4Atunci el a alergat înainte și s‑a urcat într‑un sicomor4 O specie de copac care seamănă atât cu smochinul, cât și cu dudul, fiind înrudit cu ultimul. Un copac solid, cu ramuri multe și aproape de pământ. Copacul este foarte des în frunziș și foarte rămuros, o bună ascunzătoare pentru oricine. ca să‑L vadă, căci pe drumul acela urma să treacă.
5Când a ajuns Isus în locul acela, S‑a uitat în sus și i‑a zis:
– Zacheu, dă‑te jos repede, pentru că astăzi trebuie să rămân în casa ta.
6El s‑a dat repede jos și, bucuros, L‑a primit ca oaspete.
7Când au văzut acest lucru, toți murmurau și ziceau:
– A intrat să poposească la un om păcătos!
8Dar Zacheu a stat înaintea Domnului și I‑a zis:
– Iată, Doamne, jumătate din posesiunile mele le dau celor săraci, iar dacă am înșelat pe cineva cu ceva, îi dau înapoi de patru ori mai mult!
9Isus i‑a zis:
– Astăzi a intrat mântuirea în casa aceasta, deoarece și el este un fiu al lui Avraam! 10Căci Fiul Omului a venit să caute și să mântuiască ce era pierdut.
Pilda celor zece mine
(Mt. 25:14-30)
11În timp ce ascultau aceste lucruri, El a continuat și le‑a spus o pildă, pentru că era aproape de Ierusalim, iar ei credeau că Împărăția lui Dumnezeu urma să se arate deodată.
12Așadar, le‑a zis:
– Un nobil a plecat într‑o țară îndepărtată ca să preia un regat și apoi să se întoarcă.12 Pilda se baza pe niște realități istorice ale epocii: Irod cel Mare a trebuit să facă o călătorie la Roma, pentru a fi încoronat rege al Iudeei în 40 î.Cr., începând să domnească abia în 37 î.Cr. Pilda însă vorbește despre Isus Cristos, care era pe punctul de a pleca, întorcându‑se apoi ca Rege. 13I‑a chemat pe zece dintre sclavii lui, le‑a dat zece mine13 Veche monedă grecească de aur sau de argint. O mina avea 100 de drahme, echivalentul a peste 100 de denari (pentru valoarea denarului, vezi nota de la 7:41) [peste tot în capitol]. și le‑a zis: „Folosiți‑le în negoț până când mă întorc eu!“
14Dar cetățenii lui îl urau și au trimis în urma lui o solie, zicând: „Nu vrem ca acesta să domnească peste noi!“14 O astfel de situație s‑a petrecut cu 30 de ani înainte, în cazul lui Arhelau, fiul lui Irod cel Mare. 15La întoarcerea sa, după ce a preluat regatul, a spus să fie chemați sclavii aceia, cărora le dăduse argintul, ca să afle cât au câștigat.
16Primul a venit, zicând: „Stăpâne, mina ta a mai adus încă zece mine.“ 17Stăpânul i‑a zis: „Bine, sclav bun! Pentru că ai fost credincios într‑un lucru foarte mic, primește autoritate peste zece cetăți!“
18Apoi a venit al doilea, zicând: „Mina ta, stăpâne, a mai adus cinci!“ 19Stăpânul i‑a zis și acestuia: „Primește și tu autoritate peste cinci cetăți!“
20Un altul a venit, zicând: „Stăpâne, iată‑ți mina! Am ținut‑o învelită într‑un ștergar, 21căci m‑am temut de tine, fiindcă ești un om aspru, care iei ceea ce n‑ai pus și seceri ceea ce n‑ai semănat!“ 22Stăpânul i‑a zis: „Sclav rău, te voi judeca după cuvintele tale! Știai că sunt un om aspru, care iau ceea ce n‑am pus și secer ceea ce n‑am semănat? 23Atunci de ce n‑ai pus argintul la bancă23 Lit.: pe masă, locul unde se țineau și se administrau banii în societatea de atunci., pentru ca, la întoarcere, să strâng cu dobândă?“
24Și le‑a zis celor care stăteau acolo: „Luați‑i mina și dați‑i‑o celui ce are zece mine.“ 25Ei au zis: „Stăpâne, el are zece mine!“ 26Vă spun că celui ce are, i se va da, însă de la cel ce n‑are, se va lua chiar și ce are. 27Cât despre acei dușmani ai mei, care n‑au vrut să domnesc eu peste ei, aduceți‑i aici și omorâți‑i înaintea mea!
Intrarea triumfală în Ierusalim
(Mt. 21:1-11; Mc. 11:1-11; In. 12:12-19)
28După ce a spus aceste lucruri, Isus a pornit în frunte, suindu‑Se spre Ierusalim. 29Când S‑a apropiat de Betfaghe și de Betania, înspre muntele numit „al Măslinilor“, i‑a trimis pe doi dintre ucenici, 30zicând: „Duceți‑vă în satul dinaintea voastră. Când intrați în el veți găsi un măgăruș legat, pe care n‑a încălecat nimeni niciodată. Dezlegați‑l și aduceți‑l! 31Dacă vă va întreba cineva: «De ce‑l dezlegați?», să‑i ziceți: «Domnul are nevoie de el.»“ 32Cei ce fuseseră trimiși s‑au dus și au găsit totul așa cum le spusese Isus.
33În timp ce dezlegau măgărușul, stăpânii acestuia i‑au întrebat:
– De ce dezlegați măgărușul?
34Ei au răspuns:
– Domnul are nevoie de el!
35Și l‑au adus la Isus. Apoi și‑au aruncat hainele peste măgăruș și L‑au așezat pe Isus călare35 Intrând în Ierusalim călare pe un măgăruș, Isus demonstra că El este Fiul lui David, Cel Căruia Îi aparținea tronul lui David (2 Sam. 7:16) și că El este Cel despre Care vorbiseră profeții (Zah. 9:9).. 36În timp ce El înainta, oamenii își așterneau hainele pe drum36 Omagiu adus unui rege (vezi 2 Regi 9:13)..
37Când S‑a apropiat deja de povârnișul dinspre Muntele Măslinilor, toți cei din mulțimea ucenicilor, plini de bucurie, au început să‑L laude pe Dumnezeu cu glas tare pentru toate minunile pe care le văzuseră.
38Ei ziceau:
– Binecuvântat este Împăratul
Care vine în Numele Domnului!38 Vezi Ps. 118:26.
Pace în cer și slavă în locurile preaînalte!38 Probabil un citat din Ps. 148:1.
39Unii farisei din mulțime I‑au zis:
– Învățătorule, mustră‑Ți ucenicii!
40Isus, răspunzând, a zis:
– Vă spun că, dacă aceștia vor tăcea, pietrele vor striga40 Probabil cu referire la v. 44 (vezi și Hab. 2:11); sau în ideea că până și creația conștientizează importanța evenimentului, numai fariseii nu.!
Isus plânge pentru Ierusalim
41Când S‑a apropiat de cetate și a văzut‑o, Isus a plâns pentru ea. 42El a zis: „Dacă ai fi cunoscut și tu, în această zi, lucrurile care‑ți puteau aduce pacea! Dar acum ele sunt ascunse de ochii tăi! 43Vor veni zile peste tine când dușmanii tăi vor ridica baricade împotriva ta, te vor înconjura și te vor asedia din toate părțile! 44Te vor strivi de pământ, pe tine și pe copiii tăi din mijlocul tău, și nu vor lăsa în tine piatră pe piatră, pentru că n‑ai cunoscut vremea cercetării tale!“
Isus alungă comercianții din Templu
(Mt. 21:12-17; Mc. 11:15-19; In. 2:13-22)
45Isus a intrat în Templu și a început să‑i scoată afară pe cei ce vindeau acolo, 46zicându‑le: „Este scris:
«Casa Mea va fi o casă de rugăciune»,46 Vezi Is. 56:7.
dar voi ați făcut din ea o peșteră de tâlhari!46 Vezi Ier. 7:11.“
47Isus dădea în fiecare zi învățătură în Templu. Conducătorii preoților, cărturarii și fruntașii poporului căutau să‑L omoare, 48dar nu știau ce să facă, pentru că tot poporul se ținea strâns de El, ascultându‑L.48 Sau: tot poporul se agăța de ceea ce spunea El.
Zacchaeus the tax collector
1Jesus entered Jericho and was passing through. 2A man was there by the name of Zacchaeus; he was a chief tax collector and was wealthy. 3He wanted to see who Jesus was, but because he was short he could not see over the crowd. 4So he ran ahead and climbed a sycamore-fig tree to see him, since Jesus was coming that way.
5When Jesus reached the spot, he looked up and said to him, ‘Zacchaeus, come down immediately. I must stay at your house today.’ 6So he came down at once and welcomed him gladly.
7All the people saw this and began to mutter, ‘He has gone to be the guest of a sinner.’
8But Zacchaeus stood up and said to the Lord, ‘Look, Lord! Here and now I give half of my possessions to the poor, and if I have cheated anybody out of anything, I will pay back four times the amount.’
9Jesus said to him, ‘Today salvation has come to this house, because this man, too, is a son of Abraham. 10For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.’
The parable of the ten minas
11While they were listening to this, he went on to tell them a parable, because he was near Jerusalem and the people thought that the kingdom of God was going to appear at once. 12He said: ‘A man of noble birth went to a distant country to have himself appointed king and then to return. 13So he called ten of his servants and gave them ten minas.19:13 A mina was about three months’ wages. “Put this money to work,” he said, “until I come back.”
14‘But his subjects hated him and sent a delegation after him to say, “We don’t want this man to be our king.”
15‘He was made king, however, and returned home. Then he sent for the servants to whom he had given the money, in order to find out what they had gained with it.
16‘The first one came and said, “Sir, your mina has earned ten more.”
17‘ “Well done, my good servant!” his master replied. “Because you have been trustworthy in a very small matter, take charge of ten cities.”
18‘The second came and said, “Sir, your mina has earned five more.”
19‘His master answered, “You take charge of five cities.”
20‘Then another servant came and said, “Sir, here is your mina; I have kept it laid away in a piece of cloth. 21I was afraid of you, because you are a hard man. You take out what you did not put in and reap what you did not sow.”
22‘His master replied, “I will judge you by your own words, you wicked servant! You knew, did you, that I am a hard man, taking out what I did not put in, and reaping what I did not sow? 23Why then didn’t you put my money on deposit, so that when I came back, I could have collected it with interest?”
24‘Then he said to those standing by, “Take his mina away from him and give it to the one who has ten minas.”
25‘ “Sir,” they said, “he already has ten!”
26‘He replied, “I tell you that to everyone who has, more will be given, but as for the one who has nothing, even what they have will be taken away. 27But those enemies of mine who did not want me to be king over them – bring them here and kill them in front of me.” ’
Jesus comes to Jerusalem as king
28After Jesus had said this, he went on ahead, going up to Jerusalem. 29As he approached Bethphage and Bethany at the hill called the Mount of Olives, he sent two of his disciples, saying to them, 30‘Go to the village ahead of you, and as you enter it, you will find a colt tied there, which no-one has ever ridden. Untie it and bring it here. 31If anyone asks you, “Why are you untying it?” say, “The Lord needs it.” ’
32Those who were sent ahead went and found it just as he had told them. 33As they were untying the colt, its owners asked them, ‘Why are you untying the colt?’
34They replied, ‘The Lord needs it.’
35They brought it to Jesus, threw their cloaks on the colt and put Jesus on it. 36As he went along, people spread their cloaks on the road.
37When he came near the place where the road goes down the Mount of Olives, the whole crowd of disciples began joyfully to praise God in loud voices for all the miracles they had seen:
38‘Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord!’19:38 Psalm 118:26
‘Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!’
39Some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to Jesus, ‘Teacher, rebuke your disciples!’
40‘I tell you,’ he replied, ‘if they keep quiet, the stones will cry out.’
41As he approached Jerusalem and saw the city, he wept over it 42and said, ‘If you, even you, had only known on this day what would bring you peace – but now it is hidden from your eyes. 43The days will come upon you when your enemies will build an embankment against you and encircle you and hem you in on every side. 44They will dash you to the ground, you and the children within your walls. They will not leave one stone on another, because you did not recognise the time of God’s coming to you.’
Jesus at the temple
45When Jesus entered the temple courts, he began to drive out those who were selling. 46‘It is written,’ he said to them, ‘ “My house will be a house of prayer”19:46 Isaiah 56:7; but you have made it “a den of robbers”.19:46 Jer. 7:11’
47Every day he was teaching at the temple. But the chief priests, the teachers of the law and the leaders among the people were trying to kill him. 48Yet they could not find any way to do it, because all the people hung on his words.
