Ipocrizia fariseilor
(Mt. 10:26-27)
1Între timp, mulțimea s‑a adunat cu zecile de mii, astfel că se călcau în picioare unii pe alții. Isus a început să le vorbească mai întâi ucenicilor Săi:
– Păziți‑vă pe voi înșivă de drojdia fariseilor, care este ipocrizia! 2Nu este nimic acoperit care nu va fi descoperit și nimic ascuns care nu va fi făcut cunoscut. 3De aceea, orice ați spus în întuneric, va fi auzit la lumină, și orice ați șoptit la ureche, în odăițe3 Cu referire la o încăpere izolată din casă, care nu avea de obicei nicio fereastră cu deschidere în exterior; era locul cel mai tainic din casă. Termenul mai poate avea și sensul de cămară, magazie (vezi 12:24), locul unde erau ținute lucrurile de valoare., va fi proclamat de pe acoperișuri.
Teamă de Dumnezeu, nu de oameni
(Mt. 10:28-33; 12:31-32; Mc. 3:28-29)
4Vă spun vouă, prietenilor Mei, să nu vă temeți de cei ce ucid trupul, dar care, după aceea, nu mai pot face nimic. 5Vă voi arăta însă de Cine să vă temeți: temeți‑vă de Cel Care, după uciderea trupului, are autoritatea de a arunca în Gheenă5 Gr.: gheenna, termen ce desemna Valea (fiilor lui) Hinom (ebr.: ghe‑hinom), o vale situată la sud de Ierusalim, loc unde în vremea lui Ahaz și Manase îi erau aduse sacrificii umane zeului amonit Moleh (2 Cron. 28:3; 33:6). Iosia a profanat valea (2 Regi 23:10), aceasta ajungând ulterior un loc în care deșeurile ardeau continuu. Valea a devenit o imagine a locului pedepsei finale.. Da, vă spun, de Acela să vă temeți! 6Nu se vând oare cinci vrăbii pe doi assarioni6 Lat.: as, monedă romană de bronz, care valora a 16-a parte dintr‑un denar (pentru valoarea denarului, vezi nota de la 7:41).? Și totuși, nici măcar una dintre ele nu este uitată înaintea lui Dumnezeu! 7Chiar și firele de păr din capul vostru, toate vă sunt numărate! Nu vă temeți! Voi sunteți mai prețioși decât multe vrăbii.
8Vă spun că pe oricine Mă va mărturisi înaintea oamenilor, îl va mărturisi și Fiul Omului înaintea îngerilor lui Dumnezeu. 9Însă cel care se va lepăda de Mine înaintea oamenilor, va fi lepădat și el înaintea îngerilor lui Dumnezeu. 10Și oricine va spune vreun cuvânt împotriva Fiului Omului va fi iertat, dar cel care va blasfemia împotriva Duhului Sfânt nu va fi iertat.
11Când vă vor duce înaintea sinagogilor, a conducătorilor și a autorităților, să nu vă îngrijorați cum sau ce veți vorbi în apărarea voastră sau ce veți spune, 12pentru că Duhul Sfânt vă va învăța chiar în ceasul acela ce trebuie să spuneți.
Pilda bogatului nesăbuit
13Cineva din mulțime I‑a zis:
– Învățătorule, spune‑i fratelui meu să împartă moștenirea cu mine!
14Dar Isus i‑a răspuns:
– Omule, cine M‑a pus pe Mine judecător sau împărțitor între voi?!
15Apoi le‑a zis:
– Fiți atenți și păziți‑vă de orice fel de lăcomie, căci viața cuiva nu stă în belșugul avuțiilor lui!
16Și le‑a spus o pildă:
– Ogorul unui om bogat rodise din belșug. 17El se gândea în sine însuși și zicea: „Ce să fac, pentru că nu mai am unde să‑mi depozitez roadele?!“
18Atunci a zis: „Iată ce voi face: îmi voi dărâma hambarele, voi construi altele mai mari și voi depozita acolo tot grâul și toate bunurile mele. 19Apoi voi zice sufletului meu: «Suflete, ai multe bunuri, adunate pentru mulți ani. Odihnește‑te, mănâncă, bea și înveselește‑te!»“
20Dar Dumnezeu i‑a zis: „Nesăbuitule! Chiar în noaptea aceasta ți se cere sufletul; și lucrurile pe care le‑ai pregătit, ale cui vor fi?!“ 21Așa este cel care adună pentru sine, dar care nu este bogat față de Dumnezeu!
Despre îngrijorări
(Mt. 6:25-34)
22Apoi le‑a zis ucenicilor Săi:
– De aceea vă spun: nu vă îngrijorați pentru viața22 Sau: sufletul. voastră, gândindu‑vă ce veți mânca, nici de trupul vostru, gândindu‑vă cu ce vă veți îmbrăca! 23Căci viața este mai mult decât mâncarea, iar trupul mai mult decât îmbrăcămintea. 24Uitați‑vă cu atenție la corbi: ei nici nu seamănă, nici nu seceră și nu au nici cămară, nici hambar. Și totuși Dumnezeu îi hrănește. Cu cât mai prețioși sunteți voi decât păsările!? 25Și apoi, cine dintre voi, îngrijorându‑se, poate să adauge un cot la lungimea vieții lui25 Vezi și Ps. 39:5, acolo unde durata vieții este „măsurată“ cu ajutorul unui lat de palmă. Sau un cot la înălțimea lui.?! 26Prin urmare, dacă nu puteți face nici cel mai mic lucru, de ce vă mai îngrijorați de celelalte?!
27Uitați‑vă cu atenție cum cresc crinii: ei nici nu se ostenesc, nici nu torc27 Unele mss conțin: nici nu torc, nici nu țes.. Și totuși vă spun că nici chiar Solomon, în toată slava lui, nu s‑a îmbrăcat ca unul dintre ei! 28Iar dacă Dumnezeu îmbracă astfel iarba de pe câmp, care astăzi este, dar mâine va fi aruncată în cuptor, cu cât mai mult vă va îmbrăca El pe voi, puțin credincioșilor!?
29Și voi deci, nu căutați ce să mâncați și ce să beți, și nu fiți îngrijorați, 30căci toate aceste lucruri neamurile lumii le caută. Tatăl vostru știe că aveți nevoie de acestea. 31Căutați în schimb Împărăția lui Dumnezeu31 Unele mss conțin: Împărăția Lui. și vi se vor da și acestea.
32Nu te teme, turmă mică, pentru că Tatălui vostru Îi face plăcere să vă dea Împărăția! 33Vindeți‑vă bunurile și dați milostenie. Faceți‑vă rost de săculeți33 Cu referire la săculeții în care se țineau banii. care nu se învechesc, o comoară nesecată în ceruri, unde hoțul nu se apropie, nici molia n‑o distruge. 34Căci unde este comoara voastră, acolo va fi și inima voastră.
Îndemn la veghere
(Mt. 24:45-51)
35Coapsele să vă fie încinse, iar candelele aprinse. 36Să fiți și voi asemenea oamenilor care își așteaptă stăpânul să se întoarcă de la nuntă, ca să‑i deschidă imediat atunci când va veni și va bate la ușă. 37Fericiți sunt robii aceia pe care stăpânul, la venirea lui, îi va găsi veghind! Adevărat vă spun că el se va încinge, îi va pune să se așeze la masă și se va apropia să le slujească! 38Fie că vine la a doua strajă38 Între orele 21:00–24:00. Evreii au împrumutat de la romani împărțirea nopții în 4 străji a câte 3 ore. În VT noaptea era împărțită în 3 străji a câte 4 ore (apus–22:00; 22:00–2:00; 2:00–răsărit). din noapte, fie că vine la a treia strajă38 Între orele 24:00–3:00., fericiți sunt aceia pe care‑i va găsi astfel! 39Să știți lucrul acesta: dacă stăpânul casei ar ști la ce oră vine hoțul, ar veghea și n‑ar lăsa să i se spargă casa. 40Și voi deci, fiți pregătiți, pentru că Fiul Omului va veni în ceasul în care nu vă gândiți.
Robul credincios și înțelept
(Mt. 25:1-13; Mc. 13:33-37)
41Petru L‑a întrebat:
– Doamne, pentru noi spui pilda aceasta sau pentru toți?
42Domnul a răspuns:
– Cine este deci administratorul credincios și înțelept pe care stăpânul îl va pune responsabil peste ceilalți slujitori ai săi, ca să le dea partea de hrană la timp? 43Fericit este robul acela, pe care stăpânul, la venirea lui, îl va găsi făcând așa! 44Adevărat vă spun că îl va pune responsabil peste toate bunurile sale! 45Dar, dacă robul acela zice în inima lui: „Stăpânul meu întârzie să vină!“ și începe să‑i bată pe slujitori și pe slujnice, să mănânce, să bea și să se îmbete, 46stăpânul acelui rob va veni într‑o zi în care el nu se așteaptă și la o oră pe care n‑o știe. El îl va tăia în două46 Posibil o hiperbolă care transmite ideea de pedeapsă foarte aspră. și‑i va hotărî partea la un loc cu necredincioșii.
47Robul acela, care știe voia stăpânului său și nu se pregătește sau nu face potrivit cu voia acestuia, va fi bătut cu multe lovituri. 48Iar cel ce nu știe, însă face lucruri vrednice de lovituri, va fi bătut cu mai puține lovituri. Cui i s‑a dat mult, i se va cere mult, iar cui i s‑a încredințat mult, i se va cere și mai mult.
Nu pacea, ci dezbinarea
(Mt. 10:34-36)
49Eu am venit să arunc foc pe pământ și cât aș vrea ca focul să fi fost deja aprins! 50Am un botez cu care trebuie să fiu botezat și cât de apăsat sunt până când acesta este îndeplinit! 51Credeți că am venit să aduc pace pe pământ? Vă spun că nu, ci mai degrabă dezbinare. 52Căci, de acum înainte, din cinci care vor fi într‑o casă, trei vor fi dezbinați împotriva a doi și doi împotriva a trei.
53Tatăl va fi dezbinat împotriva fiului,
iar fiul împotriva tatălui,
mama împotriva fiicei,
iar fiica împotriva mamei,
soacra împotriva nurorii ei,
iar nora împotriva soacrei.
Înțelegând vremurile
(Mt. 16:2-3; 5:25-26)
54Apoi le‑a mai zis mulțimilor:
– Când vedeți un nor ridicându‑se la apus, ziceți imediat: „Vine ploaia.54 În Israel, norii de ploaie vin dinspre vest.“ Și așa se întâmplă. 55Iar când vântul suflă din sud, ziceți: „Va fi arșiță.“ Și așa se întâmplă. 56Ipocriților! Fața cerului și a pământului știți s‑o deosebiți, dar vremea aceasta cum de nu știți s‑o deosebiți?
57Și de ce nu judecați voi înșivă ce este drept? 58În timp ce te duci cu acuzatorul tău la conducător, dă‑ți silința pe drum să te împaci cu el, ca nu cumva să te târască înaintea judecătorului, judecătorul să te dea pe mâna ofițerului, iar ofițerul să te arunce în închisoare! 59Îți spun că nu vei ieși de acolo până când nu vei fi plătit și ultimul lepton59 Un lepton (monedă grecească din cupru) era jumătate de codrant (pentru valoarea codrantului, vezi nota din Mt. 5:26) și a 128-a parte dintr‑un denar (pentru valoarea denarului, vezi nota de la 7:41).!
Warnings and Encouragements
1Meanwhile, when a crowd of many thousands had gathered, so that they were trampling on one another, Jesus began to speak first to his disciples, saying: “Be12:1 Or speak to his disciples, saying: “First of all, be on your guard against the yeast of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy. 2There is nothing concealed that will not be disclosed, or hidden that will not be made known. 3What you have said in the dark will be heard in the daylight, and what you have whispered in the ear in the inner rooms will be proclaimed from the roofs.
4“I tell you, my friends, do not be afraid of those who kill the body and after that can do no more. 5But I will show you whom you should fear: Fear him who, after your body has been killed, has authority to throw you into hell. Yes, I tell you, fear him. 6Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one of them is forgotten by God. 7Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.
8“I tell you, whoever publicly acknowledges me before others, the Son of Man will also acknowledge before the angels of God. 9But whoever disowns me before others will be disowned before the angels of God. 10And everyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but anyone who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven.
11“When you are brought before synagogues, rulers and authorities, do not worry about how you will defend yourselves or what you will say, 12for the Holy Spirit will teach you at that time what you should say.”
The Parable of the Rich Fool
13Someone in the crowd said to him, “Teacher, tell my brother to divide the inheritance with me.”
14Jesus replied, “Man, who appointed me a judge or an arbiter between you?” 15Then he said to them, “Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; life does not consist in an abundance of possessions.”
16And he told them this parable: “The ground of a certain rich man yielded an abundant harvest. 17He thought to himself, ‘What shall I do? I have no place to store my crops.’
18“Then he said, ‘This is what I’ll do. I will tear down my barns and build bigger ones, and there I will store my surplus grain. 19And I’ll say to myself, “You have plenty of grain laid up for many years. Take life easy; eat, drink and be merry.” ’
20“But God said to him, ‘You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you. Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself?’
21“This is how it will be with whoever stores up things for themselves but is not rich toward God.”
Do Not Worry
22Then Jesus said to his disciples: “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat; or about your body, what you will wear. 23For life is more than food, and the body more than clothes. 24Consider the ravens: They do not sow or reap, they have no storeroom or barn; yet God feeds them. And how much more valuable you are than birds! 25Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to your life12:25 Or single cubit to your height? 26Since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about the rest?
27“Consider how the wild flowers grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you, not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 28If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today, and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, how much more will he clothe you—you of little faith! 29And do not set your heart on what you will eat or drink; do not worry about it. 30For the pagan world runs after all such things, and your Father knows that you need them. 31But seek his kingdom, and these things will be given to you as well.
32“Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father has been pleased to give you the kingdom. 33Sell your possessions and give to the poor. Provide purses for yourselves that will not wear out, a treasure in heaven that will never fail, where no thief comes near and no moth destroys. 34For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
Watchfulness
35“Be dressed ready for service and keep your lamps burning, 36like servants waiting for their master to return from a wedding banquet, so that when he comes and knocks they can immediately open the door for him. 37It will be good for those servants whose master finds them watching when he comes. Truly I tell you, he will dress himself to serve, will have them recline at the table and will come and wait on them. 38It will be good for those servants whose master finds them ready, even if he comes in the middle of the night or toward daybreak. 39But understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what hour the thief was coming, he would not have let his house be broken into. 40You also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him.”
41Peter asked, “Lord, are you telling this parable to us, or to everyone?”
42The Lord answered, “Who then is the faithful and wise manager, whom the master puts in charge of his servants to give them their food allowance at the proper time? 43It will be good for that servant whom the master finds doing so when he returns. 44Truly I tell you, he will put him in charge of all his possessions. 45But suppose the servant says to himself, ‘My master is taking a long time in coming,’ and he then begins to beat the other servants, both men and women, and to eat and drink and get drunk. 46The master of that servant will come on a day when he does not expect him and at an hour he is not aware of. He will cut him to pieces and assign him a place with the unbelievers.
47“The servant who knows the master’s will and does not get ready or does not do what the master wants will be beaten with many blows. 48But the one who does not know and does things deserving punishment will be beaten with few blows. From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked.
Not Peace but Division
49“I have come to bring fire on the earth, and how I wish it were already kindled! 50But I have a baptism to undergo, and what constraint I am under until it is completed! 51Do you think I came to bring peace on earth? No, I tell you, but division. 52From now on there will be five in one family divided against each other, three against two and two against three. 53They will be divided, father against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against mother, mother-in-law against daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against mother-in-law.”
Interpreting the Times
54He said to the crowd: “When you see a cloud rising in the west, immediately you say, ‘It’s going to rain,’ and it does. 55And when the south wind blows, you say, ‘It’s going to be hot,’ and it is. 56Hypocrites! You know how to interpret the appearance of the earth and the sky. How is it that you don’t know how to interpret this present time?
57“Why don’t you judge for yourselves what is right? 58As you are going with your adversary to the magistrate, try hard to be reconciled on the way, or your adversary may drag you off to the judge, and the judge turn you over to the officer, and the officer throw you into prison. 59I tell you, you will not get out until you have paid the last penny.”
