1Elihu a răspuns și a zis:

4Îți voi răspunde ție
și prietenilor tăi care sunt cu tine.
5Uită‑te la ceruri și vezi;
privește cât sunt de sus norii față de tine!
6Dacă ai păcătuit, ce‑I faci Lui?
Iar dacă ți se înmulțesc fărădelegile, ce‑I faci Lui?
7Dacă ești drept, ce‑I dai Lui?
Ce primește El din mâna Ta?
8Răutatea ta este doar pentru un om ca tine,
iar dreptatea ta este doar pentru fiul omului.
9Oamenii strigă din cauza mulțimii asupririlor,
strigă după ajutor din cauza brațului celor mulți,
10dar nimeni nu zice: «Unde este Dumnezeu, Creatorul meu,
Care ne dă cântări de veselie noaptea,
11Care ne învață prin11 Sau: ne învață mai mult decât pe. animalele pământului
și ne face înțelepți prin11 Sau: ne face mai înțelepți decât. păsările cerului?»
12El nu răspunde când oamenii strigă,
din cauza mândriei celor răi.

14Deși zici că nu‑L vezi,
cauza ta este înaintea Lui. Să‑L aștepți,

și nu‑I pasă prea mult de nesăbuință.
16Prin urmare, Iov își deschide gura degeaba
și spune o mulțime de vorbe fără cunoștință.“

2“Do you think this is just?
You say, ‘I am in the right, not God.’

4“I would like to reply to you
and to your friends with you.
5Look up at the heavens and see;
gaze at the clouds so high above you.
6If you sin, how does that affect him?
If your sins are many, what does that do to him?
7If you are righteous, what do you give to him,
or what does he receive from your hand?
8Your wickedness only affects humans like yourself,
and your righteousness only other people.
9“People cry out under a load of oppression;
they plead for relief from the arm of the powerful.
10But no one says, ‘Where is God my Maker,
who gives songs in the night,
11who teaches us more than he teaches35:10,11 Or night, / 11 who teaches us by the beasts of the earth
and makes us wiser than35:11 Or us wise by the birds in the sky?’
12He does not answer when people cry out
because of the arrogance of the wicked.
13Indeed, God does not listen to their empty plea;
the Almighty pays no attention to it.
14How much less, then, will he listen
when you say that you do not see him,
that your case is before him
and you must wait for him,
15and further, that his anger never punishes
and he does not take the least notice of wickedness.35:15 Symmachus, Theodotion and Vulgate; the meaning of the Hebrew for this word is uncertain.
16So Job opens his mouth with empty talk;
without knowledge he multiplies words.”
