Profeție împotriva amoniților
1Cu privire la fiii lui Amon:
Așa vorbește Domnul:
„Oare nu mai are Israel fii?
Oare nu mai are moștenitori?
Atunci de ce a luat Moleh1 Zeitatea supremă a amoniților; sau regele lor (vezi și 2 Sam. 12:30). în stăpânire Gadul,
iar poporul lui îi locuiește cetățile?
2De aceea, iată, vin zile,
zice Domnul,
când voi suna strigătul de război
împotriva Rabei fiilor lui Amon;
ea va ajunge un morman de ruine
și satelor dimprejurul ei li se vor da foc.
Atunci Israel îi va alunga din țară
pe cei ce‑l alungaseră, zice Domnul.
3Gemi, Heșbonule, căci Ai este distrus!
Strigați, fiice ale Rabei!
Încingeți‑vă cu saci și jeliți!
Alergați încoace și încolo de‑a lungul zidurilor,
căci Moleh se duce în captivitate,
împreună cu preoții și conducătorii lui!
4De ce te lauzi cu văile tale,
cu văile tale care se revarsă de‑atâta belșug?
O, fiică rătăcită,
tu te încrezi în bogățiile tale și zici:
«Cine va veni împotriva mea?»
5Iată, voi aduce împotriva ta groaza
din partea tuturor celor din jurul tău,
zice Stăpânul, Domnul Oștirilor.
Fiecare dintre voi va fi izgonit
și nimeni nu‑i va strânge pe fugari.
6Dar după aceea, îi voi aduce înapoi pe captivii fiilor lui Amon,
zice Domnul.“
Profeție împotriva Edomului
7Cu privire la Edom:
Așa vorbește Domnul Oștirilor:
„Nu mai este înțelepciune în Teman?
Cei chibzuiți nu mai au sfaturi?
A putrezit oare înțelepciunea lor?
8Întoarceți‑vă și fugiți!
Ascundeți‑vă în peșteri adânci,
voi, cei care locuiți în Dedan,
căci voi aduce nenorocirea peste Esau,
la vremea când îl voi pedepsi.
9Dacă ar veni niște culegători de struguri la tine,
n‑ar lăsa ei câțiva ciorchini neculeși?
Dacă ar intra la tine niște hoți în timpul nopții,
n‑ar prăda9 Lit.: distruge. ei doar cât ar avea nevoie?
10Eu Însumi îl voi despuia pe Esau,
îi voi descoperi toate ascunzișurile lui
și nu se va mai putea ascunde.
Copiii, frații și vecinii lui vor pieri,
iar el nu va mai fi.
11Lasă‑ți orfanii, căci Eu îi voi ține în viață,
iar văduvele tale să se încreadă în Mine.“
12Așa vorbește Domnul: „Iată că cei care nu ar fi trebuit să bea din cupă, vor ajunge să bea! Iar tu să rămâi nepedepsit? Nu, nu vei rămâne nepedepsit, ci vei bea și tu! 13Jur pe Mine Însumi, zice Domnul, că Boțra va ajunge de groază și de dispreț, în ruină și de blestem. Toate cetățile ei vor deveni ruine pe vecie.“
14Am auzit un mesaj de la Domnul.
Un mesager a fost trimis printre neamuri ca să zică:
„Adunați‑vă și atacați‑o!
Ridicați‑vă la luptă!
15Pentru că, iată, te voi face mic între neamuri!
Vei fi disprețuit printre oameni!
16Groaza pe care o inspiri
și îngâmfarea inimii tale te‑au înșelat,
pe tine care locuiești în crăpăturile stâncii
și care stai pe vârfurile dealurilor.
Chiar dacă ți‑ai înălța cuibul precum vulturul,
și de acolo te voi doborî,
zice Domnul.
17Edomul va deveni o pricină de groază;
toți cei ce vor trece pe lângă el
se vor îngrozi și vor fluiera,
din cauza tuturor rănilor lui.
18Așa cum au fost distruse Sodoma și Gomora
și cetățile vecine,
zice Domnul,
tot astfel niciun om nu va mai locui acolo
și niciun fiu al omului nu se va mai stabili în el.
19Iată, ca un leu care se suie din desișul Iordanului
împotriva unui staul trainic,
așa Mă voi repezi
și‑l voi pune pe fugă pe Edom
din locul unde este.
Cine este cel ales de Mine ca să facă aceasta?
Cine este ca Mine și cine Mă va înfrunta?
Ce păstor Îmi poate sta împotrivă?“
20De aceea, ascultați planul Domnului,
pe care l‑a hotărât împotriva Edomului,
și gândurile pe care le are
împotriva locuitorilor din Teman:
sigur îi vor târî pe cei mici ai turmei;
sigur El le va distruge staulul.
21La sunetul căderii lor se va cutremura pământul
și răsunetul strigătului lor
se va auzi până la Marea Roșie21 Ebr.: Yam Suf (lit.: Marea Trestiilor sau Marea Algelor– vezi Iona 2:5, unde același termen ebraic, suf, are sensul de alge). Denumirea de Marea Roșie a fost introdusă în traducerile moderne prin LXX și Vulgata. În VT însă, sintagma ebraică denumea actualul Golf Aqaba, la sud de Elat. Chiar și astăzi localnicii numesc Golful Aqaba Yam Suf. Vezi 1 Regi 9:26..
22Iată, dușmanul se înalță și zboară ca un vultur
și își întinde aripile deasupra Boțrei.
În ziua aceea, inima vitejilor Edomului
va fi ca inima unei femei în durerile nașterii.
Profeție împotriva Damascului
23Cu privire la Damasc:
„Hamatul și Arpadul sunt tulburate
căci au auzit vești rele.
Se topesc de spaimă;
sunt ca o mare învolburată
care nu se mai poate potoli.
24Damascul este descurajat.
Se întoarce să fugă,
dar îl cuprinde panica;
îl apucă neliniștea și durerea,
ca pe o femeie în durerile nașterii.
25De ce nu a fost abandonată cetatea aceasta renumită,
cetatea bucuriei mele?
26De aceea, tinerii ei vor cădea în piețe;
toți războinicii ei vor fi reduși la tăcere în ziua aceea, zice Domnul Oștirilor.
27Voi da foc zidurilor Damascului
și el va mistui palatele Ben‑Hadadului.“
Profeție împotriva Chedarului și Hațorului
28Cu privire la Chedar și la regatele Hațorului, pe care le‑a cucerit Nebucadnețar, împăratul Babilonului:
Așa vorbește Domnul:
„Ridicați‑vă, suiți‑vă împotriva Chedarului
și distrugeți‑i pe fiii Răsăritului.
29Le vor lua corturile și turmele.
Le vor ridica draperiile,
toate bunurile și cămilele
și vor striga la ei:
«Teroare de jur împrejur!»
30Fugiți! Fugiți repede!
Ascundeți‑vă în peșteri adânci, locuitori ai Hațorului,
zice Domnul.
Căci Nebucadnețar, împăratul Babilonului, a luat o hotărâre împotriva voastră
și a făcut un plan împotriva voastră.
31Ridicați‑vă, suiți‑vă împotriva unui neam liniștit,
care locuiește în siguranță,
zice Domnul.
El n‑are nici porți, nici zăvoare
și sălășluiește în singurătate.
32Cămilele lor vor deveni pradă
și mulțimea turmelor lor va fi jefuită.
Îi voi împrăștia în toate vânturile
pe cei care își rad colțurile bărbii32 Sau: pe cei de departe.
și voi aduce dezastrul împotriva lor din toate părțile,
zice Domnul.
33Hațorul va deveni o vizuină de șacali,
un loc pustiu pe vecie.
Niciun om nu va mai locui acolo
și niciun fiu al omului nu se va mai stabili în el.“
Profeție împotriva Elamului
34Iată Cuvântul Domnului care a venit la profetul Ieremia cu privire la Elam, la începutul domniei lui Zedechia, regele lui Iuda:
35Așa vorbește Domnul Oștirilor:
„Iată, voi sfărâma arcul Elamului,
sursa puterii lui.
36Voi aduce împotriva Elamului cele patru vânturi
de la cele patru margini ale cerului.
Îi voi împrăștia în toate vânturile acestea
și nu va fi niciun neam
la care să nu ajungă deportații Elamului.
37Îi voi face pe elamiți să se înspăimânte înaintea dușmanilor lor,
înaintea celor ce le caută viața.
Voi aduce nenorocirea împotriva lor,
mânia Mea cea aprigă,
zice Domnul.
Voi trimite după ei sabia
până îi voi nimici.
38Îmi voi așeza tronul în Elam
și voi nimici de acolo pe regele și pe conducătorii lor,
zice Domnul.
39Dar, în zilele de pe urmă,
îi voi aduce înapoi pe captivii Elamului,
zice Domnul.“
A message about Ammon
1Concerning the Ammonites:
This is what the Lord says:
‘Has Israel no sons?
Has Israel no heir?
Why then has Molek49:1 Or their king; also in verse 3 taken possession of Gad?
Why do his people live in its towns?
2But the days are coming,’ declares the Lord,
‘when I will sound the battle cry
against Rabbah of the Ammonites;
it will become a mound of ruins,
and its surrounding villages will be set on fire.
Then Israel will drive out
those who drove her out,’
says the Lord.
3‘Wail, Heshbon, for Ai is destroyed!
Cry out, you inhabitants of Rabbah!
Put on sackcloth and mourn;
rush here and there inside the walls,
for Molek will go into exile,
together with his priests and officials.
4Why do you boast of your valleys,
boast of your valleys so fruitful?
Unfaithful Daughter Ammon,
you trust in your riches and say,
“Who will attack me?”
5I will bring terror on you
from all those around you,’
declares the Lord, the Lord Almighty.
‘Every one of you will be driven away,
and no-one will gather the fugitives.
6‘Yet afterwards, I will restore the fortunes of the Ammonites,’
declares the Lord.
A message about Edom
7Concerning Edom:
This is what the Lord Almighty says:
‘Is there no longer wisdom in Teman?
Has counsel perished from the prudent?
Has their wisdom decayed?
8Turn and flee, hide in deep caves,
you who live in Dedan,
for I will bring disaster on Esau
at the time when I punish him.
9If grape pickers came to you,
would they not leave a few grapes?
If thieves came during the night,
would they not steal only as much as they wanted?
10But I will strip Esau bare;
I will uncover his hiding-places,
so that he cannot conceal himself.
His armed men are destroyed,
also his allies and neighbours,
so there is no-one to say,
11“Leave your fatherless children; I will keep them alive.
Your widows too can depend on me.” ’
12This is what the Lord says: ‘If those who do not deserve to drink the cup must drink it, why should you go unpunished? You will not go unpunished, but must drink it. 13I swear by myself,’ declares the Lord, ‘that Bozrah will become a ruin and a curse,49:13 That is, its name will be used in cursing (see 29:22); or, others will see that it is cursed. an object of horror and reproach; and all its towns will be in ruins for ever.’
14I have heard a message from the Lord;
an envoy was sent to the nations to say,
‘Assemble yourselves to attack it!
Rise up for battle!’
15‘Now I will make you small among the nations,
despised by mankind.
16The terror you inspire
and the pride of your heart have deceived you,
you who live in the clefts of the rocks,
who occupy the heights of the hill.
Though you build your nest as high as the eagle’s,
from there I will bring you down,’
declares the Lord.
17‘Edom will become an object of horror;
all who pass by will be appalled and will scoff
because of all its wounds.
18As Sodom and Gomorrah were overthrown,
along with their neighbouring towns,’ says the Lord,
‘so no-one will live there;
no people will dwell in it.
19‘Like a lion coming up from Jordan’s thickets
to a rich pasture-land,
I will chase Edom from its land in an instant.
Who is the chosen one I will appoint for this?
Who is like me and who can challenge me?
And what shepherd can stand against me?’
20Therefore, hear what the Lord has planned against Edom,
what he has purposed against those who live in Teman:
the young of the flock will be dragged away;
their pasture will be appalled at their fate.
21At the sound of their fall the earth will tremble;
their cry will resound to the Red Sea.49:21 Or the Sea of Reeds
22Look! An eagle will soar and swoop down,
spreading its wings over Bozrah.
In that day the hearts of Edom’s warriors
will be like the heart of a woman in labour.
A message about Damascus
23Concerning Damascus:
‘Hamath and Arpad are dismayed,
for they have heard bad news.
They are disheartened,
troubled like49:23 Hebrew on or by the restless sea.
24Damascus has become feeble,
she has turned to flee
and panic has gripped her;
anguish and pain have seized her,
pain like that of a woman in labour.
25Why has the city of renown not been abandoned,
the town in which I delight?
26Surely, her young men will fall in the streets;
all her soldiers will be silenced in that day,’
declares the Lord Almighty.
27‘I will set fire to the walls of Damascus;
it will consume the fortresses of Ben-Hadad.’
A message about Kedar and Hazor
28Concerning Kedar and the kingdoms of Hazor, which Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon attacked:
This is what the Lord says:
‘Arise, and attack Kedar
and destroy the people of the East.
29Their tents and their flocks will be taken;
their shelters will be carried off
with all their goods and camels.
People will shout to them,
“Terror on every side!”
30‘Flee quickly away!
Stay in deep caves, you who live in Hazor,’
declares the Lord.
‘Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon has plotted against you;
he has devised a plan against you.
31‘Arise and attack a nation at ease,
which lives in confidence,’
declares the Lord,
‘a nation that has neither gates nor bars;
its people live far from danger.
32Their camels will become plunder,
and their large herds will be spoils of war.
I will scatter to the winds those who are in distant places49:32 Or who clip the hair by their foreheads
and will bring disaster on them from every side,’
declares the Lord.
33‘Hazor will become a haunt of jackals,
a desolate place for ever.
No-one will live there;
no people will dwell in it.’
A message about Elam
34This is the word of the Lord that came to Jeremiah the prophet concerning Elam, early in the reign of Zedekiah king of Judah:
35This is what the Lord Almighty says:
‘See, I will break the bow of Elam,
the mainstay of their might.
36I will bring against Elam the four winds
from the four quarters of heaven;
I will scatter them to the four winds,
and there will not be a nation
where Elam’s exiles do not go.
37I will shatter Elam before their foes,
before those who want to kill them;
I will bring disaster on them,
even my fierce anger,’
declares the Lord.
‘I will pursue them with the sword
until I have made an end of them.
38I will set my throne in Elam
and destroy her king and officials,’
declares the Lord.
39‘Yet I will restore the fortunes of Elam
in days to come,’
declares the Lord.
