Ieremia cumpără un teren
1Cuvântul spus lui Ieremia din partea Domnului în al zecelea an al lui Zedechia, regele lui Iuda, care era al optsprezecelea an al lui Nebucadnețar. 2În acea vreme, armata împăratului Babilonului asedia Ierusalimul, iar profetul Ieremia era închis în curtea temniței din palatul regelui lui Iuda, 3în care Zedechia, regele lui Iuda, îl închisese, zicând: „De ce profețești, zicând: «Așa vorbește Domnul: ‘Iată, dau cetatea aceasta în mâinile împăratului Babilonului și el o va cuceri. 4Zedechia, regele lui Iuda, nu va scăpa din mâna caldeenilor, ci, cu siguranță, va fi dat în mâna împăratului Babilonului, căruia îi va vorbi față în față și pe care‑l va vedea cu propriii lui ochi. 5Acesta îl va duce pe Zedechia în Babilon, unde va rămâne până Îmi voi aduce aminte Eu de el, zice Domnul. Chiar dacă vă veți lupta împotriva caldeenilor, nu veți reuși.’»?“
6Ieremia a zis: „Cuvântul Domnului mi‑a vorbit astfel: 7«Hanamel, fiul unchiului tău Șalum, va veni la tine, zicând: ‘Cumpără terenul meu care este în Anatot, deoarece tu ai drept de răscumpărare ca să‑l cumperi.’»“
8Hanamel, fiul unchiului meu, a venit la mine în curtea temniței, după cuvântul Domnului, și mi‑a zis: „Cumpără, te rog, terenul meu care este în Anatot, în teritoriul lui Beniamin, căci tu ai drept de moștenire și de răscumpărare. Cumpără‑l tu!“
Am știut că acesta era Cuvântul Domnului, 9așa că am cumpărat de la Hanamel, fiul unchiului meu, terenul din Anatot și i‑am cântărit șaptesprezece șecheli9 Aproximativ 0,2 kg. de argint. 10Am semnat și pecetluit actul, am pus martori și am cântărit argintul pe talere. 11Am luat apoi actele de cumpărare, atât pe cel pecetluit, în care erau termenii și condițiile cumpărării, cât și pe cel nepecetluit, 12și i le‑am dat lui Baruc, fiul lui Neria, fiul lui Mahseia, înaintea ochilor vărului meu Hanamel, înaintea ochilor martorilor care au semnat actele de cumpărare și sub privirea tuturor iudeilor care se aflau în curtea temniței.
13Înaintea ochilor lor i‑am poruncit lui Baruc, zicând: 14„Așa vorbește Domnul Oștirilor, Dumnezeul lui Israel: «Ia aceste documente, atât actul de cumpărare pecetluit, cât și pe cel nepecetluit, și pune‑le într‑un vas de pământ ca să se păstreze multă vreme!» 15Căci așa vorbește Domnul Oștirilor, Dumnezeul lui Israel: «Se vor mai cumpăra case, terenuri și vii în țara aceasta.»“
16După ce am dat actele de cumpărare a terenului lui Baruc, fiul lui Neria, m‑am rugat Domnului, zicând:
17„Ah, Stăpâne Doamne, Tu ai făcut cerurile și pământul prin puterea Ta cea mare și cu brațul Tău întins. Nimic nu este prea greu pentru Tine! 18Tu arăți îndurare la mii de generații, dar aduci pedeapsa pentru nelegiuirea părinților în sânul copiilor lor. Tu ești Dumnezeul cel Mare și Puternic, al Cărui Nume este Domnul Oștirilor. 19Sfaturile Tale sunt mărețe și faptele Tale sunt puternice. Ochii Tăi sunt deschiși asupra tuturor căilor fiilor omului, ca să dai fiecăruia după căile lui și după rodul faptelor lui. 20Tu ai făcut semne și minuni în țara Egiptului și le‑ai continuat până în ziua de azi, atât în Israel, cât și în întreaga lume, și Ți‑ai făcut un Nume așa cum este astăzi. 21L‑ai scos pe poporul Tău Israel din țara Egiptului cu semne și minuni, cu mână puternică, cu braț întins și cu o mare teamă. 22Tu le‑ai dat țara aceasta, pe care ai jurat părinților lor că le‑o vei da, țară în care curge lapte și miere. 23Ei au venit și au luat‑o în stăpânire, dar nu au ascultat de glasul Tău și n‑au păzit Legea Ta. Tot ce le porunciseși să facă, nu au făcut. Atunci ai trimis peste ei toate aceste nenorociri.
24Iată cum se înalță rampe de asalt împotriva cetății ca să fie cucerită! Din cauza sabiei, a foametei și a molimei cetatea va cădea în mâinile caldeenilor, care o atacă. Ce ai spus Tu s‑a întâmplat, după cum vezi Tu Însuți. 25Stăpâne Doamne, Tu mi‑ai zis: «Cumpără‑ți cu argint un teren și pune martori!», dar iată că cetatea este dată în mâinile caldeenilor!“
26Atunci Cuvântul Domnului i‑a vorbit lui Ieremia, zicând: 27„Iată, Eu sunt Domnul, Dumnezeul oricărei făpturi. Este ceva prea greu pentru Mine? 28De aceea, așa vorbește Domnul: «Dau cetatea aceasta în mâinile caldeenilor și în mâinile lui Nebucadnețar, împăratul Babilonului, și ei o vor cuceri. 29Caldeenii, care luptă împotriva acestei cetăți, vor intra, îi vor da foc și o vor arde. Vor arde toate casele pe acoperișul cărora poporul a ars tămâie pentru Baal și a turnat jertfe de băutură în cinstea altor dumnezei ca să Mă mânie. 30Căci fiii lui Israel și fiii lui Iuda au făcut numai rău în ochii Mei încă din tinerețea lor. Da, fiii lui Israel M‑au mâniat întruna prin lucrările mâinilor lor, zice Domnul. 31Căci cetatea aceasta n‑a încetat să‑Mi provoace mânia și furia, din ziua când au zidit‑o și până în ziua aceasta; prin urmare, o îndepărtez din fața Mea. 32Fiii lui Israel și fiii lui Iuda M‑au provocat la mânie prin tot răul pe care l‑au săvârșit, atât ei, cât și regii și conducătorii lor, preoții și profeții lor, oamenii din Iuda și locuitorii Ierusalimului. 33S‑au întors cu ceafa la Mine și nu cu fața. I‑am învățat dis‑de‑dimineaţă, dar ei nu au ascultat și nu au primit îndrumarea. 34Și‑au așezat spurcăciunile lor în Casa peste care este chemat Numele Meu și au pângărit‑o. 35Au construit înălțimi lui Baal în valea Ben‑Hinom, ca să‑și treacă fiii și fiicele prin foc35 Sau: să‑și sacrifice fiii și fiicele în foc. în cinstea lui Moleh, lucru pe care Eu nu li l‑am poruncit și nici nu Mi‑a trecut prin minte că ei vor săvârși asemenea urâciuni ca să‑l facă pe Iuda să păcătuiască.»
36Acum însă, așa vorbește Domnul, Dumnezeul lui Israel, cu privire la cetatea aceasta despre care voi ziceți că va fi dată în mâinile împăratului Babilonului prin sabie, foamete și molimă: 37«Iată, îi voi aduna din toate țările unde i‑am alungat în mânia, furia și înverșunarea Mea cea mare, îi voi aduce înapoi în locul acesta și‑i voi face să locuiască în siguranță. 38Ei vor fi poporul Meu și Eu voi fi Dumnezeul lor. 39Le voi da o singură inimă și o singură cale, ca să se teamă de Mine tot timpul, spre fericirea lor și a copiilor lor după ei. 40Voi încheia cu ei un legământ veșnic, potrivit căruia nu Mă voi opri din a le face bine. Voi pune în inima lor teama de Mine, ca să nu se mai îndepărteze de Mine. 41Mă voi bucura să le fac bine și îi voi planta cu adevărat în țara aceasta din toată inima și din tot sufletul Meu.»
42Căci așa vorbește Domnul: «După cum am adus peste poporul acesta toate aceste mari nenorociri, tot așa voi aduce peste el tot binele pe care îl promit. 43Se vor cumpăra din nou terenuri în țara aceasta despre care ziceți că a devenit o pustie fără oameni și fără animale, din cauză că a fost dată în mâinile caldeenilor. 44Se vor cumpăra din nou terenuri pe argint, se vor semna acte și se vor pecetlui cu martori în teritoriul lui Beniamin, în împrejurimile Ierusalimului, în cetățile lui Iuda, în cetățile de la munte, în cetățile din zona deluroasă44 Vezi nota de la 17:26. și în cetățile din Neghev44 Vezi nota de la 13:19., căci le voi aduce înapoi captivii, zice Domnul.»“
Jeremiah Buys a Field
1This is the word that came to Jeremiah from the Lord in the tenth year of Zedekiah king of Judah, which was the eighteenth year of Nebuchadnezzar. 2The army of the king of Babylon was then besieging Jerusalem, and Jeremiah the prophet was confined in the courtyard of the guard in the royal palace of Judah.
3Now Zedekiah king of Judah had imprisoned him there, saying, “Why do you prophesy as you do? You say, ‘This is what the Lord says: I am about to give this city into the hands of the king of Babylon, and he will capture it. 4Zedekiah king of Judah will not escape the Babylonians32:4 Or Chaldeans; also in verses 5, 24, 25, 28, 29 and 43 but will certainly be given into the hands of the king of Babylon, and will speak with him face to face and see him with his own eyes. 5He will take Zedekiah to Babylon, where he will remain until I deal with him, declares the Lord. If you fight against the Babylonians, you will not succeed.’ ”
6Jeremiah said, “The word of the Lord came to me: 7Hanamel son of Shallum your uncle is going to come to you and say, ‘Buy my field at Anathoth, because as nearest relative it is your right and duty to buy it.’
8“Then, just as the Lord had said, my cousin Hanamel came to me in the courtyard of the guard and said, ‘Buy my field at Anathoth in the territory of Benjamin. Since it is your right to redeem it and possess it, buy it for yourself.’
“I knew that this was the word of the Lord; 9so I bought the field at Anathoth from my cousin Hanamel and weighed out for him seventeen shekels32:9 That is, about 7 ounces or about 200 grams of silver. 10I signed and sealed the deed, had it witnessed, and weighed out the silver on the scales. 11I took the deed of purchase—the sealed copy containing the terms and conditions, as well as the unsealed copy— 12and I gave this deed to Baruch son of Neriah, the son of Mahseiah, in the presence of my cousin Hanamel and of the witnesses who had signed the deed and of all the Jews sitting in the courtyard of the guard.
13“In their presence I gave Baruch these instructions: 14‘This is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says: Take these documents, both the sealed and unsealed copies of the deed of purchase, and put them in a clay jar so they will last a long time. 15For this is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says: Houses, fields and vineyards will again be bought in this land.’
16“After I had given the deed of purchase to Baruch son of Neriah, I prayed to the Lord:
17“Ah, Sovereign Lord, you have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and outstretched arm. Nothing is too hard for you. 18You show love to thousands but bring the punishment for the parents’ sins into the laps of their children after them. Great and mighty God, whose name is the Lord Almighty, 19great are your purposes and mighty are your deeds. Your eyes are open to the ways of all mankind; you reward each person according to their conduct and as their deeds deserve. 20You performed signs and wonders in Egypt and have continued them to this day, in Israel and among all mankind, and have gained the renown that is still yours. 21You brought your people Israel out of Egypt with signs and wonders, by a mighty hand and an outstretched arm and with great terror. 22You gave them this land you had sworn to give their ancestors, a land flowing with milk and honey. 23They came in and took possession of it, but they did not obey you or follow your law; they did not do what you commanded them to do. So you brought all this disaster on them.
24“See how the siege ramps are built up to take the city. Because of the sword, famine and plague, the city will be given into the hands of the Babylonians who are attacking it. What you said has happened, as you now see. 25And though the city will be given into the hands of the Babylonians, you, Sovereign Lord, say to me, ‘Buy the field with silver and have the transaction witnessed.’ ”
26Then the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah: 27“I am the Lord, the God of all mankind. Is anything too hard for me? 28Therefore this is what the Lord says: I am about to give this city into the hands of the Babylonians and to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, who will capture it. 29The Babylonians who are attacking this city will come in and set it on fire; they will burn it down, along with the houses where the people aroused my anger by burning incense on the roofs to Baal and by pouring out drink offerings to other gods.
30“The people of Israel and Judah have done nothing but evil in my sight from their youth; indeed, the people of Israel have done nothing but arouse my anger with what their hands have made, declares the Lord. 31From the day it was built until now, this city has so aroused my anger and wrath that I must remove it from my sight. 32The people of Israel and Judah have provoked me by all the evil they have done—they, their kings and officials, their priests and prophets, the people of Judah and those living in Jerusalem. 33They turned their backs to me and not their faces; though I taught them again and again, they would not listen or respond to discipline. 34They set up their vile images in the house that bears my Name and defiled it. 35They built high places for Baal in the Valley of Ben Hinnom to sacrifice their sons and daughters to Molek, though I never commanded—nor did it enter my mind—that they should do such a detestable thing and so make Judah sin.
36“You are saying about this city, ‘By the sword, famine and plague it will be given into the hands of the king of Babylon’; but this is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: 37I will surely gather them from all the lands where I banish them in my furious anger and great wrath; I will bring them back to this place and let them live in safety. 38They will be my people, and I will be their God. 39I will give them singleness of heart and action, so that they will always fear me and that all will then go well for them and for their children after them. 40I will make an everlasting covenant with them: I will never stop doing good to them, and I will inspire them to fear me, so that they will never turn away from me. 41I will rejoice in doing them good and will assuredly plant them in this land with all my heart and soul.
42“This is what the Lord says: As I have brought all this great calamity on this people, so I will give them all the prosperity I have promised them. 43Once more fields will be bought in this land of which you say, ‘It is a desolate waste, without people or animals, for it has been given into the hands of the Babylonians.’ 44Fields will be bought for silver, and deeds will be signed, sealed and witnessed in the territory of Benjamin, in the villages around Jerusalem, in the towns of Judah and in the towns of the hill country, of the western foothills and of the Negev, because I will restore their fortunes,32:44 Or will bring them back from captivity declares the Lord.”
