Iosif li se face cunoscut fraților săi
1Atunci Iosif nu s‑a mai putut stăpâni înaintea tuturor celor ce stăteau lângă el și a strigat: „Să iasă toată lumea afară!“ Astfel, niciunul n‑a rămas cu el atunci când Iosif s‑a făcut cunoscut fraților săi. 2Și Iosif a izbucnit în plâns. Atât egiptenii, cât și cei de la curtea lui Faraon au auzit despre lucrul acesta. 3Iosif le‑a zis fraților săi: „Eu sunt! Iosif! Mai trăiește tatăl meu?“ Dar frații săi nu i‑au putut răspunde, pentru că au rămas înmărmuriți înaintea sa. 4Atunci Iosif le‑a zis fraților săi: „Apropiați‑vă de mine, vă rog!“ Ei s‑au apropiat de el, iar el a zis: „Eu sunt, fratele vostru Iosif, cel pe care l‑ați vândut în Egipt! 5Acum, să nu vă întristați și să nu vă mâniați pe voi înșivă pentru că m‑ați vândut aici, căci Dumnezeu m‑a trimis înaintea voastră pentru a vă păstra în viață.5 Sau: pentru a vă păstra un mare număr de supraviețuitori. 6Deoarece foametea durează de doi ani pe pământ și vor mai fi încă cinci ani în care nu se va ara și nu se va secera, 7Dumnezeu m‑a trimis înaintea voastră pentru a vă păstra o rămășiță pe pământ și pentru a vă salva viețile printr‑o mare eliberare. 8Așadar, nu voi m‑ați trimis aici, ci Dumnezeu. El m‑a făcut tată pentru Faraon, stăpân în toată casa lui și domnitor peste toată țara Egiptului. 9Suiți‑vă repede la tatăl meu și spuneți‑i: «Așa vorbește fiul tău Iosif: ‘Dumnezeu m‑a făcut stăpân peste tot Egiptul. Vino la mine fără întârziere. 10Vei locui în ținutul Goșen10 Regiune fertilă situată în estul Deltei Nilului. și vei fi aproape de mine, tu, copiii tăi, nepoții tăi, turmele tale, cirezile tale și tot ceea ce este al tău. 11Acolo îți voi asigura hrana, căci mai sunt încă cinci ani de foamete, pentru ca să nu sărăcești tu, familia ta și tot ce este al tău.’» 12Iată, ochii voștri și ochii fratelui meu Beniamin văd că sunt chiar eu cel care vă vorbește. 13Să‑i spuneți tatălui meu despre toată gloria pe care o am în Egipt și despre tot ce ați văzut. Grăbiți‑vă și coborâți aici cu tatăl meu.“
14Apoi l‑a îmbrățișat pe fratele său Beniamin și a plâns, în timp ce Beniamin plângea și el pe umărul lui. 15Iosif i‑a sărutat pe toți frații săi și a plâns pe umerii lor. După aceea frații săi au vorbit cu el.
16S‑a auzit vestea, în palatul lui Faraon, că au venit frații lui Iosif. Lucrul acesta i‑a plăcut lui Faraon și slujitorilor săi.16 Lit.: Și a fost bine în ochii lui Faraon și în ochii slujitorilor lui. 17Faraon i‑a zis lui Iosif: „Spune‑le fraților tăi: «Să faceți astfel: încărcați‑vă animalele și plecați. Duceți‑vă în țara Canaan, 18luați‑vă tatăl și familiile și veniți la mine. Eu vă voi da ce este mai bun în țara Egiptului și veți mânca grăsimea țării.» 19Ți se poruncește să le mai spui: «Faceți astfel: luați din țara Egiptului niște care pentru copiii și soțiile voastre, luați‑l pe tatăl vostru și veniți. 20Să nu vă pară rău de bunurile voastre, pentru că tot ce este mai bun în Egipt va fi al vostru.»“
21Fiii lui Israel au făcut întocmai. Iosif le‑a dat care, după porunca lui Faraon, și provizii pentru călătorie. 22Fiecăruia i‑a dat câte un rând de haine, dar lui Beniamin i‑a dat trei sute de șecheli de argint22 Aproximativ 3,5 kg. și cinci rânduri de haine. 23Tatălui său i‑a trimis zece măgari încărcați cu ce era mai bun în Egipt și zece măgărițe încărcate cu grâne, pâine și provizii pentru călătorie. 24Iosif i‑a trimis pe frații săi și la plecare le‑a zis: „Să nu vă certați24 Sau: Să nu fiți agitați. pe drum!“
25Ei s‑au suit înapoi din Egipt, au ajuns în țara Canaan la Iacov, tatăl lor, 26și l‑au înștiințat, zicând: „Iosif trăiește! Chiar el este domnitor peste toată țara Egiptului!“ Însă inima lui Iacov a rămas rece, pentru că nu‑i credea. 27Dar când i‑au istorisit tot ceea ce le spusese Iosif și când a văzut carele pe care le trimisese Iosif să‑l ducă, duhul tatălui lor, Iacov, s‑a înviorat. 28Israel a zis: „Destul! Iosif, fiul meu, este încă viu! Voi merge să‑l văd înainte de a muri.“
Joseph Tells His Brothers Who He Is
1Joseph couldn’t control himself anymore in front of all his attendants. He cried out, “Have everyone leave me!” So there wasn’t anyone with Joseph when he told his brothers who he was. 2He wept so loudly that the Egyptians heard him. Everyone in Pharaoh’s house heard about it.
3Joseph said to his brothers, “I am Joseph! Is my father still alive?” But his brothers weren’t able to answer him. They were too afraid of him.
4Joseph said to his brothers, “Come close to me.” So they did. Then he said, “I am your brother Joseph. I’m the one you sold into Egypt. 5But don’t be upset. And don’t be angry with yourselves because you sold me here. God sent me ahead of you to save many lives. 6For two years now, there hasn’t been enough food in the land. And for the next five years, people won’t be plowing or gathering crops. 7But God sent me ahead of you to keep some of you alive on earth. He sent me here to save your lives by an act of mighty power.
8“So then, it wasn’t you who sent me here. It was God. He made me like a father to Pharaoh. He made me master of Pharaoh’s entire house. God made me ruler of the whole land of Egypt. 9Now hurry back to my father. Say to him, ‘Your son Joseph says, “God has made me master of the whole land of Egypt. Come down to me. Don’t waste any time. 10You will live in the area of Goshen. You, your children and grandchildren, your flocks and herds, and everything you have will be near me. 11There I will provide everything you need. There are still five years to come when there won’t be enough food. If you don’t come down here, you and your family and everyone who belongs to you will lose everything.” ’
12“My brothers, I am Joseph. You can see for yourselves that I am the one speaking to you. My brother Benjamin can see it too. 13Tell my father about all the honor given to me in Egypt. Tell him about everything you have seen. And bring my father down here quickly.”
14Then Joseph threw his arms around his brother Benjamin and wept. Benjamin also hugged him and wept. 15Joseph kissed all his brothers and wept over them. After that, his brothers talked with him.
16The news reached Pharaoh’s palace that Joseph’s brothers had come. Pharaoh and all his officials were pleased. 17Pharaoh said to Joseph, “Here’s what I want you to tell your brothers. Say to them, ‘Load your animals. Return to the land of Canaan. 18Bring your father and your families back to me. I’ll give you the best land in Egypt. You can enjoy all the good things in the land.’
19“And here’s something else I want you to tell them. Say to them, ‘Take some carts from Egypt. Your children and your wives can use them. Get your father and come back. 20Don’t worry about the things you have back there. The best of everything in Egypt will belong to you.’ ”
21Then the sons of Israel did so. Joseph gave them carts, as Pharaoh had commanded. He also gave them supplies for their journey. 22He gave new clothes to each of them. But he gave Benjamin more than seven pounds of silver. He also gave him five sets of clothes. 23He sent his father ten male donkeys loaded with the best things from Egypt. He also sent ten female donkeys loaded with grain and bread and other supplies for his journey. 24Then Joseph sent his brothers away. As they were leaving he said to them, “Don’t argue on the way!”
25So they went up out of Egypt. They came to their father Jacob in the land of Canaan. 26They told him, “Joseph is still alive! In fact, he is ruler of the whole land of Egypt.” Jacob was shocked. He didn’t believe them. 27So they told him everything Joseph had said to them. Jacob saw the carts Joseph had sent to carry him back. That gave new life to their father Jacob. 28Israel said, “I believe it now! My son Joseph is still alive. I’ll go and see him before I die.”
