Profeție împotriva Edomului
1Cuvântul Domnului mi‑a vorbit, zicând: 2„Fiul omului, îndreaptă‑ți fața spre muntele Seir și profețește împotriva lui! 3Spune‑i că așa vorbește Stăpânul Domn: «Iată, sunt împotriva ta, munte al Seirului! Îmi voi întinde mâna împotriva ta și te voi preface într‑o pustietate și într‑un loc devastat! 4Îți voi preface cetățile în ruină, iar tu vei ajunge o pustietate și vei ști atunci că Eu sunt Domnul.
5Pentru că aveai o ură străveche și i‑ai doborât cu sabia pe fiii lui Israel în vremea necazului lor, în vremea pedepsei lor finale, 6de aceea, viu sunt Eu, zice Stăpânul Domn, că te voi îneca în sânge și sângele te va urmări. Fiindcă nu ai urât vărsarea de sânge, aceasta te va urmări. 7Voi preface muntele Seir într‑o pustietate și într‑un loc devastat. Și voi nimici din el pe oricine îl străbate7 Lit.: pe cel ce se duce și pe cel ce se întoarce; sau pe cel care încearcă să scape și pe cel care se întoarce.. 8Îi voi umple versanții de morții lui. Cei răpuși de sabie vor cădea pe dealurile tale, pe văile tale și în toate albiile tale. 9Te voi preface într‑o pustietate veșnică și cetățile tale nu vor mai fi locuite. Și vei ști astfel că Eu sunt Domnul.
10Pentru că ai zis: ‘Aceste două neamuri și aceste două țări vor fi ale mele și le vom lua în stăpânire!’, măcar că Domnul era încă acolo, 11de aceea, viu sunt Eu, zice Stăpânul Domn, că‑ți voi face după mânia și râvna pe care le‑ai arătat și tu, în ura ta față de ei. Și Mă voi face cunoscut în mijlocul lor când te voi judeca. 12Vei ști astfel că Eu, Domnul, am auzit toate batjocurile pe care le‑ai spus despre munții lui Israel atunci când ai zis: ‘Sunt pustiiți, ne sunt dați nouă să‑i devorăm!’ 13V‑ați lăudat împotriva Mea prin vorbirea voastră și v‑ați înmulțit cuvintele împotriva Mea, însă Eu am auzit.» 14Așa vorbește Stăpânul Domn: «Când tot pământul se va bucura, pe tine te voi preface într‑o pustietate. 15Pentru că te‑ai bucurat când moștenirea Casei lui Israel a fost pustiită, îți voi face și ție la fel. Vei ajunge o pustietate, munte Seir, tu și tot Edomul, și veți ști astfel că Eu sunt Domnul.»“
A prophecy against Edom
1The word of the Lord came to me: 2‘Son of man, set your face against Mount Seir; prophesy against it 3and say: “This is what the Sovereign Lord says: I am against you, Mount Seir, and I will stretch out my hand against you and make you a desolate waste. 4I will turn your towns into ruins and you will be desolate. Then you will know that I am the Lord.
5‘ “Because you harboured an ancient hostility and delivered the Israelites over to the sword at the time of their calamity, the time their punishment reached its climax, 6therefore as surely as I live, declares the Sovereign Lord, I will give you over to bloodshed and it will pursue you. Since you did not hate bloodshed, bloodshed will pursue you. 7I will make Mount Seir a desolate waste and cut off from it all who come and go. 8I will fill your mountains with the slain; those killed by the sword will fall on your hills and in your valleys and in all your ravines. 9I will make you desolate for ever; your towns will not be inhabited. Then you will know that I am the Lord.
10‘ “Because you have said, ‘These two nations and countries will be ours and we will take possession of them,’ even though I the Lord was there, 11therefore as surely as I live, declares the Sovereign Lord, I will treat you in accordance with the anger and jealousy you showed in your hatred of them and I will make myself known among them when I judge you. 12Then you will know that I the Lord have heard all the contemptible things you have said against the mountains of Israel. You said, ‘They have been laid waste and have been given over to us to devour.’ 13You boasted against me and spoke against me without restraint, and I heard it. 14This is what the Sovereign Lord says: while the whole earth rejoices, I will make you desolate. 15Because you rejoiced when the inheritance of Israel became desolate, that is how I will treat you. You will be desolate, Mount Seir, you and all of Edom. Then they will know that I am the Lord.” ’
