Ne vom bucura și ne vom desfăta cu tine
și îți vom lăuda dezmierdările mai mult decât vinul.

Tu meriți să fii iubit.
5Sunt neagră, dar sunt frumoasă, fiice ale Ierusalimului,
asemenea corturilor din Chedar,
asemenea draperiilor lui Solomon5 Sau: Șalma, un trib nomad, care locuia în nordul Arabiei, în apropiere de Chedar..
6Nu vă mirați că sunt neagră,
fiindcă m‑a ars soarele.
Fiii mamei mele s‑au mâniat pe mine
și m‑au pus să păzesc viile;
însă via mea nu am păzit‑o.
7Spune‑mi, iubitul sufletului meu, unde îți paști turma
și unde te odihnești la amiază?
De ce să fiu ca una care umblă acoperită7 Aluzie la femeile care se prostituau (vezi Gen. 38:14-15).,
pe la turmele prietenilor tăi?

8Dacă nu știi, tu, cea mai frumoasă dintre femei,
atunci mergi pe urmele lăsate de turmă
și paște‑ți iezii
lângă corturile păstorilor!
Iubitul
9Iubita mea, eu te asemăn cu o iapă
înhămată la unul dintre carele lui Faraon.
10Cât de frumoși îți sunt obrajii, înconjurați de podoabe,
și gâtul tău cu șiraguri de mărgele10 Sau: scoici.!
11Îți vom face podoabe de aur,
stropite cu argint.

12În timp ce regele era la masa lui,
nardul meu își revărsa parfumul.
13Iubitul meu îmi este ca un mănunchi de smirnă,
odihnindu‑se între sânii mei.
14Iubitul meu este pentru mine ca un buchet de flori de hena,
în viile din En‑Ghedi.

15Iată, ești atât de frumoasă, iubita mea!
Iată, ești atât de frumoasă cu ochii tăi de porumbiță!

Patul nostru este verdeața.
17Grinzile casei noastre sunt cedrii,
iar tavanele ei sunt brazii.
