Cei doi martori
1Apoi mi‑a fost dată o trestie asemenea unui băț și mi s‑a spus: „Ridică‑te și măsoară Templul lui Dumnezeu, altarul și pe cei ce se închină în el! 2Curtea exterioară a Templului las‑o la o parte și să n‑o măsori, pentru că ea a fost dată neamurilor, care vor călca în picioare cetatea cea sfântă patruzeci și două de luni2 Trei ani și jumătate.. 3Le voi da celor doi martori ai mei autoritatea să profețească o mie două sute șaizeci de zile3 Patruzeci și două de luni sau trei ani și jumătate., îmbrăcați în sac.“ 4Aceștia sunt cei doi măslini și cele două sfeșnice care stau înaintea Domnului pământului.4 Vezi și Zah. 4:3, 11, 14. 5Dacă vrea cineva să le facă rău, din gurile lor iese foc care‑i mistuie pe dușmanii lor. Deci, dacă vrea cineva să le facă rău, așa trebuie să fie omorât. 6Ei au autoritatea să închidă cerul, ca să nu mai cadă ploaie în zilele profeției lor. Ei au autoritate peste ape, ca să le transforme în sânge, și să lovească pământul cu orice fel de urgie, ori de câte ori doresc ei.
7Când își vor sfârși mărturia, fiara care se ridică din Adânc va purta război cu ei, îi va învinge și‑i va omorî. 8Cadavrele lor vor zăcea pe strada marii cetăți, care, în sens duhovnicesc8 Sau: în mod figurat., este numită „Sodoma“ și „Egipt“8 În VT, Sodoma era simbolul imoralității, iar Egiptul era simbolul opresiunii (vezi Gen. 19:4-11 și Is. 1:10; Ex. 1:11-14)., unde a fost răstignit și Domnul lor. 9Și oameni din unele popoare, seminții și neamuri și de diferite limbi, se vor uita la cadavrele lor timp de trei zile și jumătate și nu vor da voie ca acestea să fie puse în mormânt. 10Locuitorii de pe pământ se vor bucura de moartea lor, se vor înveseli și își vor trimite daruri unii altora, căci acești doi profeți îi chinuiseră pe locuitorii pământului. 11Dar după cele trei zile și jumătate, o suflare de viață de la Dumnezeu a intrat în ei, și ei s‑au ridicat în picioare; și o mare frică i‑a cuprins pe cei ce i‑au văzut. 12Apoi ei au auzit un glas puternic din cer, care le‑a spus: „Suiți‑vă aici!“ Și ei s‑au suit în cer, într‑un nor, în timp ce dușmanii lor se uitau la ei. 13Chiar în ceasul acela a avut loc un mare cutremur și s‑a prăbușit a zecea parte din cetate. Șapte mii de oameni au murit în acel cutremur, iar cei care au rămas s‑au înfricoșat și au dat slavă Dumnezeului cerului.
14Al doilea „vai“ s‑a dus. Iată că al treilea „vai“ vine repede.
A șaptea trâmbiță
15Al șaptelea înger a sunat din trâmbiță. Și erau glasuri puternice în cer, zicând:
„Împărăția lumii a devenit a Domnului nostru
și a Cristosului15 Atât Christos (greacă), cât și Mașiah (ebraică și aramaică) înseamnă Cel care este uns. Său;
iar El va împărăți în vecii vecilor!“
16Cei douăzeci și patru de bătrâni care ședeau pe tronurile lor înaintea lui Dumnezeu s‑au aruncat cu fețele la pământ și I s‑au închinat lui Dumnezeu, 17zicând:
„Îți mulțumim Ție, Doamne Dumnezeule, Cel Atotputernic,
Cel Care este și Care era,
pentru că Ți‑ai luat puterea Ta cea mare
și ai început să împărățești!
18Neamurile se mâniaseră,
dar a venit mânia Ta,
a venit vremea ca morții să fie judecați,
a venit vremea să dai răsplată robilor Tăi, profeții,
sfinților și celor ce se tem de Numele Tău,
celor mici și celor mari,
și a venit vremea să‑i distrugi pe cei ce pervertesc18 Termenul tradus cu pervertesc are și sensul de distrug/corup, fiind un posibil joc de cuvinte cu cele două sensuri. Vezi exemplul din Gen. 6:11 (Pământul era pervertit [ebr.: tișahet]) și Gen. 6:13 (le voi distruge [ebr.: mașhitam]). pământul!“
19Apoi a fost deschis Templul lui Dumnezeu din cer și în interiorul Templului a fost văzut Chivotul Legământului. Și au fost fulgere, sunete19 Sau: voci., tunete, cutremur și grindină mare.
The Two Witnesses
1I was given a long stick that looked like a measuring rod. I was told, “Go and measure the temple of God. And measure the altar where the people are worshiping. 2But do not measure the outer courtyard. That’s because it has been given to the Gentiles. They will take over the holy city for 42 months. 3I will appoint my two witnesses. And they will prophesy for 1,260 days. They will be dressed in the rough clothes people wear when they’re sad.” 4The witnesses are “the two olive trees” and the two lampstands. And “they stand in front of the Lord of the earth.” (Zechariah 4:3,11,14) 5If anyone tries to harm them, fire comes from their mouths and eats up their enemies. This is how anyone who wants to harm them must die. 6These witnesses have power to close up the sky. Then it will not rain while they are prophesying. They also have power to turn the waters into blood. And they can strike the earth with every kind of plague. They can do this as often as they want to.
7When they have finished speaking, the beast that comes up from the Abyss will attack them. He will overpower them and kill them. 8Their bodies will lie in the main street of the great city. It is also the city where their Lord was nailed to a cross. The city is sometimes compared to Sodom or Egypt. 9For three and a half days, people will stare at their bodies. These people will be from every tribe and nation, no matter what language they speak. They will refuse to bury them. 10Those who live on the earth will be happy about this. That’s because those two prophets had made them suffer. The people will celebrate by sending one another gifts.
11But after the three and a half days, the breath of life from God entered the witnesses. They both stood up. Terror struck those who saw them. 12Then the two witnesses heard a loud voice from heaven. It said to them, “Come up here.” They went up to heaven in a cloud. Their enemies watched it happen.
13At that same time there was a powerful earthquake. A tenth of the city crumbled and fell. In the earthquake, 7,000 people were killed. Those who lived through it were terrified. They gave glory to the God of heaven.
14The second terrible judgment has passed. The third is coming soon.
The Seventh Trumpet
15The seventh angel blew his trumpet. There were loud voices in heaven. They said,
“The kingdom of the world has become
the kingdom of our Lord and of his Messiah.
He will rule for ever and ever.”
16The 24 elders were sitting on their thrones in front of God. They fell on their faces and worshiped God. 17They said,
“Lord God who rules over all, we give thanks to you.
You are the God who is and who was.
We give you thanks.
That’s because you have begun to rule with your great power.
18The nations were angry,
and the time for your anger has come.
The time has come to judge the dead.
It is time to reward your servants the prophets
and your people who honor you.
There is a reward for all your people,
both great and small.
It is time to destroy those who destroy the earth.”
19Then God’s temple in heaven was opened. Inside it the wooden chest called the ark of his covenant could be seen. There were flashes of lightning, rumblings and thunder, an earthquake and a severe hailstorm.
