Omul fărădelegii
1În ce privește venirea Domnului nostru Isus Cristos și strângerea noastră laolaltă cu El, vă rugăm, fraților, 2să nu vă lăsați clătinați sau tulburați așa de repede în mintea voastră nici de vreun duh, nici de vreun cuvânt, nici de vreo scrisoare ca venind din partea noastră, care spune că ziua Domnului a și venit. 3Nimeni să nu vă înșele în niciun fel, fiindcă nu va veni înainte să vină apostazia3 Sau: răzvrătirea. și să fie descoperit omul fărădelegii3 Unele mss conțin: omul păcatului., fiul pierzării, 4cel care se împotrivește și se înalță pe sine deasupra a orice este numit „dumnezeu“ sau obiect de închinare. El se va așeza în Templul lui Dumnezeu, declarându‑se pe sine însuși Dumnezeu4 Sau: un zeu; sau: divin..
5Nu vă aduceți aminte că v‑am spus aceste lucruri când eram cu voi? 6Și acum știți ceea ce‑l oprește, astfel încât să fie descoperit doar la vremea lui. 7Căci taina fărădelegii lucrează deja. Trebuie doar ca acela care‑l oprește acum să se dea la o parte. 8Și atunci va fi descoperit cel fără de Lege, pe care Domnul Isus îl va omorî cu suflarea gurii Sale și‑l va distruge la manifestarea venirii Sale. 9Venirea celui fără de Lege va fi potrivit cu lucrarea lui Satan9 Cuvânt împrumutat din ebraică, însemnând vrăjmaș sau acuzator. Ulterior acesta a devenit un nume propriu folosit cu referire la cel care este acuzatorul, în mod special în perioada NT. Termenul diabolos este traducerea grecească a lui Satan., cu tot felul de lucrări puternice, semne și minuni mincinoase 10și cu tot felul de înșelăciuni ale nedreptății pentru cei ce pier, având în vedere că n‑au primit dragostea adevărului ca să fie mântuiți. 11De aceea, Dumnezeu le trimite o lucrare de rătăcire, pentru ca ei să creadă minciuna, 12așa încât toți cei care n‑au crezut adevărul, ci și‑au găsit plăcerea în nedreptate, să fie condamnați.
Rămâneți tari!
13Însă noi Îi mulțumim întotdeauna lui Dumnezeu pentru voi, frați iubiți de Domnul, pentru că Dumnezeu v‑a ales ca prim rod pentru mântuire13 Mss bizantine redau: pentru că Dumnezeu v‑a ales de la început pentru mântuire., prin lucrarea de sfințire a Duhului și prin credința în adevăr. 14Și la aceasta v‑a chemat El prin Evanghelia noastră, astfel încât să intrați în posesia slavei Domnului nostru Isus Cristos.
15Așadar, fraților, rămâneți tari și țineți tradițiile15 În acest context apostolul se referă la tradiții cu o conotație pozitivă, acele credințe și practici care păstrează sănătatea spirituală și stabilitatea bisericii locale. în care ați fost învățați, fie prin cuvânt, fie prin scrisoarea noastră.
16Însuși Domnul nostru Isus Cristos și Dumnezeu, Tatăl nostru, Care ne‑a iubit și Care ne‑a dat, prin harul Său, o încurajare veșnică și o speranță bună, 17să vă încurajeze inimile și să vă întărească în orice faptă și cuvânt bun!
The Man of Sin
1Brothers and sisters, we want to ask you something. It has to do with the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. It concerns the time when we will go to be with him. 2What if you receive a message that is supposed to have come from us? What if it says that the day of the Lord has already come? If it does, we ask you not to become easily upset or alarmed. Don’t be upset whether that message is spoken or written or prophesied. 3Don’t let anyone trick you in any way. That day will not come until people rise up against God. It will not come until the man of sin appears. He is a marked man. He is headed for ruin. 4He will oppose everything that is called God. He will oppose everything that is worshiped. He will give himself power over everything. He will set himself up in God’s temple. He will announce that he himself is God.
5Don’t you remember? When I was with you, I used to tell you these things. 6Now you know what is holding back the man of sin. He is held back so that he can make his appearance at the right time. 7The secret power of sin is already at work. But the one who now holds back that power will keep doing it until he is taken out of the way. 8Then the man of sin will appear. The Lord Jesus will overthrow him with the breath of his mouth. The glorious brightness of Jesus’ coming will destroy the man of sin. 9The coming of the man of sin will fit how Satan works. The man of sin will show his power through all kinds of signs and wonders. These signs and wonders will lead people astray. 10So people who are dying will be fooled by this evil. These people are dying because they refuse to love the truth. The truth would save them. 11So God will fool them completely. Then they will believe the lie. 12Many will not believe the truth. They will take pleasure in evil. They will be judged.
Remain Strong in the Faith
13Brothers and sisters, we should always thank God for you. The Lord loves you. That’s because God chose you as the first to be saved. Salvation comes through the Holy Spirit’s work. He makes people holy. It also comes through believing the truth. 14He chose you to be saved by accepting the good news that we preach. And you will share in the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.
15Brothers and sisters, remain strong in the faith. Hold on to what we taught you. We passed our teachings on to you by what we preached and wrote.
16Our Lord Jesus Christ and God our Father loved us. By his grace God gave us comfort that will last forever. The hope he gave us is good. May our Lord Jesus Christ and God our Father 17comfort your hearts. May they make you strong in every good thing you do and say.
