Femeia șunamită este repusă în drepturi
1Elisei îi zisese femeii pe al cărei fiu îl înviase: „Ridică‑te și pleacă împreună cu familia ta și locuiește pe unde vei putea, pentru că Domnul a hotărât să vină o foamete de șapte ani peste țară, și ea a și început.“ 2Femeia a făcut îndată așa cum îi spusese omul lui Dumnezeu. A plecat împreună cu familia ei și a locuit în țara filistenilor timp de șapte ani.
3La sfârșitul celor șapte ani, femeia s‑a întors din țara filistenilor și a venit să‑i facă regelui o rugăminte pentru casa și pământul ei. 4Regele tocmai vorbea cu Ghehazi, slujitorul omului lui Dumnezeu, și‑i zicea: „Istorisește‑mi, te rog, toate isprăvile făcute de Elisei!“ 5Chiar în momentul în care Ghehazi îi istorisea regelui cum a înviat Elisei un mort, iată că a intrat femeia pe al cărei fiu îl înviase Elisei, ca să facă o rugăminte regelui pentru casa și pământul ei. Și Ghehazi a zis: „O, rege, stăpânul meu, aceasta este femeia despre care vorbeam și acesta este fiul ei, care a fost înviat de Elisei!“ 6Regele a întrebat‑o pe femeie și ea i‑a istorisit totul. Apoi regele i‑a dat un demnitar, zicându‑i: „Să i se înapoieze tot ce a fost al ei, împreună cu tot venitul pământului ei, din ziua în care a părăsit țara și până acum!“
Hazael ajunge rege al Aramului
7Elisei a venit în Damasc. Ben‑Hadad, regele Aramului, era bolnav. Și l‑au înștiințat, zicând: „A venit omul lui Dumnezeu aici!“ 8Regele i‑a zis lui Hazael: „Ia cu tine un dar, du‑te, întâlnește‑te cu omul lui Dumnezeu și întreabă‑L pe Domnul prin el, zicând: «Mă voi vindeca de boala aceasta?»“ 9Hazael s‑a dus să‑l întâlnească și a luat în mâna lui un dar și tot felul de bunuri ale Damascului, încărcate pe patruzeci de cămile.
Când a ajuns la Elisei, s‑a înfățișat înaintea lui și a zis:
– Fiul tău, Ben‑Hadad, regele Aramului, m‑a trimis la tine să întreb: „Mă voi vindeca de boala aceasta?“
10Elisei i‑a răspuns:
– Du‑te și spune‑i: „Sigur te vei vindeca“, deși Domnul mi‑a arătat că sigur va muri.
11Apoi și‑a ațintit privirea spre Hazael și a rămas așa până când acesta și‑a pierdut răbdarea. Și omul lui Dumnezeu a plâns.
12Hazael a întrebat:
– De ce plângi, stăpânul meu?
El a răspuns:
– Pentru că știu răul pe care îl vei face fiilor lui Israel. Vei da foc cetăților lor întărite, îi vei ucide cu sabia pe tinerii lor, îi vei tăia în bucăți pe copiii lor și le vei spinteca pe femeile lor însărcinate.
13Hazael a zis:
– Dar ce este robul tău, câinele acesta, ca să facă lucrul acesta mare?
Elisei a răspuns:
– Domnul mi‑a arătat că vei fi regele Aramului.
14Apoi Hazael a plecat de la Elisei și s‑a întors la stăpânul său.
Acesta l‑a întrebat:
– Ce ți‑a spus Elisei?
El a răspuns:
– Mi‑a spus că sigur te vei vindeca.
15Dar a doua zi Hazael a luat o pânză netedă și, după ce a înmuiat‑o în apă, a întins‑o pe fața regelui, care a murit. Și în locul lui a domnit Hazael.
Domnia lui Iehoram peste Iuda
(2 Regi 21:5-10, 20)
16În al cincilea an al lui Ioram, fiul lui Ahab, regele lui Israel, în timp ce Iehoșafat era rege al lui Iuda, a început să domnească Iehoram, fiul lui Iehoșafat, regele lui Iuda. 17El era în vârstă de treizeci și doi de ani când a devenit rege și a domnit la Ierusalim timp de opt ani. 18El a umblat pe calea regilor lui Israel, făcând ce este rău în ochii Domnului, așa cum a făcut familia lui Ahab, căci soția lui a fost o fiică a lui Ahab. 19Totuși, Domnul nu a dorit să distrugă Iuda, de dragul lui David, robul Său, fiindcă îi promisese că‑i va da, pentru totdeauna, o lumină lui și urmașilor lui.
20În zilele lui Iehoram, Edom s‑a răsculat împotriva stăpânirii lui Iuda și și‑a pus propriul său rege. 21Atunci Iehoram21, 23-24 Ebr.: Ioram, o variantă a lui Iehoram. a trecut în Țair împreună cu toate carele lui. El s‑a sculat noaptea și l‑a învins pe Edom, care îl înconjurase, pe el și pe conducătorii carelor. Însă poporul a fugit la corturile sale. 22Edom s‑a răsculat mereu împotriva stăpânirii lui Iuda, până în ziua aceasta. Tot în acea perioadă s‑a răsculat și Libna.
23Celelalte fapte ale lui Iehoram și tot ce a făcut el, nu sunt scrise oare în „Cartea cronicilor regilor lui Iuda“? 24Iehoram a adormit alături de părinții săi și a fost înmormântat alături de părinții săi, în Cetatea lui David. În locul său a început să domnească Ahazia, fiul său.
Domnia lui Ahazia peste Iuda
(2 Cron. 22:1-6)
25În al doisprezecelea an al lui Ioram, fiul lui Ahab, regele lui Israel, a început să domnească Ahazia, fiul lui Iehoram, regele lui Iuda. 26Ahazia era în vârstă de douăzeci și doi de ani când a devenit rege și a domnit la Ierusalim timp de un an. Numele mamei sale era Atalia, o nepoată a lui Omri, regele lui Israel. 27Și el a umblat pe calea familiei lui Ahab, făcând ce este rău în ochii Domnului, întocmai ca și familia lui Ahab, căci era căsătorit cu cineva din familia lui Ahab.
28El a mers la război cu Ioram, fiul lui Ahab, împotriva lui Hazael, regele Aramului, în Ramotul Ghiladului. Acolo însă arameii l‑au rănit pe Ioram. 29Regele Ioram s‑a întors la Izreel, ca să se vindece de rănile pe care i le făcuseră arameii la Rama, în timpul luptei cu Hazael, regele Aramului. Atunci Ahazia, fiul lui Iehoram, regele lui Iuda, a coborât în Izreel ca să‑l vadă pe Ioram, fiul lui Ahab, fiindcă acesta era rănit.
The Woman From Shunem Gets Her Land Back
1Elisha had brought a woman’s son back to life. He had said to her, “Go away with your family. Stay for a while anywhere you can. The Lord has decided that there won’t be enough food in the land. That will be true for seven years.” 2The woman did just as the man of God told her to. She and her family went away. They stayed in the land of the Philistines for seven years.
3The seven years passed. Then she came back from the land of the Philistines. She went to the king of Israel. She wanted to ask him to get her house and land back. 4The king was talking to Gehazi. Gehazi was the servant of the man of God. The king had said, “Tell me about all the great things Elisha has done.” 5Gehazi was telling the king how Elisha had brought a dead boy back to life. Just then the woman came to ask the king to get her house and land back. She was the woman whose son Elisha had brought back to life.
Gehazi said, “King Joram, this is the woman I’ve been telling you about. And this is her son. He’s the one Elisha brought back to life.” 6The king asked the woman about her house and land. And she told him.
Then he appointed an official to look into her case. The king told him, “Give her back everything that belonged to her. That includes all the money that was earned from her land. It was earned from the day she left the country until now.”
Hazael Murders Ben-Hadad
7Elisha went to Damascus. Ben-Hadad was sick. He was king of Aram. The king was told, “The man of God has come all the way up here.” 8Then the king said to Hazael, “Take a gift with you. Go and see the man of God. Ask him for the Lord’s advice. Ask him whether I will get well again.”
9Hazael went to see Elisha. Hazael took 40 camels with him as a gift. The camels were loaded with all the finest goods of Damascus. Hazael went into Elisha’s house and stood in front of him. Hazael said, “Ben-Hadad has sent me. He is the king of Aram. He asks, ‘Will I get well again?’ ”
10Elisha answered, “Go and tell him, ‘Yes. You will get well again.’ But the Lord has shown me that he will in fact die.” 11Elisha stared at him without looking away. He did it until Hazael felt uncomfortable. Then the man of God began to weep.
12“Why are you weeping?” asked Hazael.
“Because I know how much harm you will do to the people of Israel,” Elisha answered. “You will set fire to their cities that have high walls around them. You will kill their young men with your swords. You will smash their little children on the ground. You will rip open their pregnant women.”
13Hazael said, “How could I possibly do a thing like that? I’m nothing but a dog. I don’t have that kind of power.”
“You will become king of Aram,” Elisha answered. “That’s what the Lord has shown me.”
14Then Hazael left Elisha and returned to his master. Ben-Hadad asked, “What did Elisha say to you?” Hazael replied, “He told me you would get well again.” 15But the next day Hazael got a thick cloth. He soaked it in water. He spread it over the king’s face. He held it there until the king died. Then Hazael became the next king after him.
Jehoram King of Judah
16Jehoram began to rule as king over Judah. It was in the fifth year that Joram was king of Israel. Joram was the son of Ahab. Jehoram was the son of Jehoshaphat. 17Jehoram was 32 years old when he became king. He ruled in Jerusalem for eight years. 18He followed the ways of the kings of Israel, just as the royal family of Ahab had done. In fact, he married a daughter of Ahab. Jehoram did what was evil in the sight of the Lord. 19But the Lord didn’t want to destroy Judah. That’s because the Lord had made a covenant with his servant David. The Lord had promised to keep the lamp of David’s kingdom burning brightly. The Lord had promised that for him and his children after him forever.
20When Jehoram was king over Judah, Edom refused to remain under Judah’s control. Edom set up their own king. 21So Jehoram went to Zair. He took all his chariots with him. The men of Edom surrounded him and his chariot commanders. He got up at night and fought his way out. But his army ran back home. 22To this day Edom has refused to remain under Judah’s control. When Jehoram was Judah’s king, Libnah also refused to remain under the control of Judah.
23The other events of Jehoram’s rule are written down. Everything he did is written in the official records of the kings of Judah. 24Jehoram joined the members of his family who had already died. He was buried in the family tomb in the City of David. Jehoram’s son Ahaziah became the next king after him.
Ahaziah King of Judah
25Ahaziah began to rule as king over Judah. It was in the 12th year that Joram was king of Israel. Joram was the son of Ahab. Ahaziah was the son of Jehoram. 26Ahaziah was 22 years old when he became king. He ruled in Jerusalem for one year. His mother’s name was Athaliah. She was a granddaughter of Omri. Omri had been the king of Israel. 27Ahaziah followed the ways of the royal family of Ahab. Ahaziah did what was evil in the sight of the Lord, just as the family of Ahab had done. That’s because he had married into Ahab’s family.
28Ahaziah joined forces with Joram. They went to war against Hazael at Ramoth Gilead. Joram was the son of Ahab. Hazael was king of Aram. The soldiers of Aram wounded King Joram. 29So he returned to Jezreel to give his wounds time to heal. The soldiers of Aram had wounded him at Ramoth in his battle against Hazael, the king of Aram.
Ahaziah, the son of Jehoram, went down to Jezreel. He went there to see Joram. That’s because Joram had been wounded. Ahaziah was king of Judah. Joram was the son of Ahab.
