Ioaș repară Casa Domnului
(2 Cron. 24:1-14)
1Ioaș a devenit rege în al șaptelea an al lui Iehu și a domnit la Ierusalim timp de patruzeci de ani. Mama lui se numea Țibia și era din Beer-Șeba. 2Ioaș a făcut ce este drept în ochii Domnului, în toate zilele în care a fost îndrumat de preotul Iehoiada. 3Totuși, înălțimile nu au fost îndepărtate, poporul încă aducând jertfe și tămâie pe înălțimi.
4Ioaș le‑a zis preoților: „Strângeți tot argintul care a fost adus ca dar sfânt la Casa Domnului, argintul strâns la numărătoarea poporului4 Vezi Ex. 30:11-16; 38:25-26., argintul pentru răscumpărarea lucrurilor închinate4 Vezi Lev. 27:1-25. și tot argintul pe care cineva îl aduce de bunăvoie la Casa Domnului. 5Fiecare preot să‑l ia de la vistiernici și să‑l folosească la restaurarea Casei, oriunde va descoperi ceva de restaurat.“
6Dar în al douăzeci și treilea an al regelui Ioaș, preoții încă nu restauraseră Casa. 7Regele Ioaș i‑a chemat pe preotul Iehoiada și pe ceilalți preoți și le‑a zis: „De ce n‑ați restaurat Casa? Acum, să nu mai luați argint de la vistiernicii voștri, ci să‑l dați pentru restaurarea Templului.“ 8Preoții au fost de acord să nu mai ia argint de la popor și să nu se mai ocupe ei de restaurarea Templului.
9Prin urmare, preotul Iehoiada a luat un cufăr, i‑a făcut o gaură în capac și l‑a pus alături de altar, pe partea dreaptă cum se intră în Casa Domnului. Preoții care păzeau poarta puneau în el tot argintul care se aducea la Casa Domnului. 10Și când vedeau că era prea mult argint în cufăr, venea scribul regelui împreună cu marele preot, numărau tot argintul care era adus la Casa Domnului și îl puneau în săculeți. 11Apoi dădeau argintul cântărit celor ce supravegheau lucrarea la Casa Domnului. Acest argint era folosit pentru plata tâmplarilor și a constructorilor care lucrau la Casa Domnului, 12a zidarilor și a cioplitorilor în piatră, pentru cumpărarea lemnelor și a pietrelor cioplite necesare restaurării Casei Domnului și pentru orice altă cheltuială care se făcea pentru restaurarea Casei.
13Argintul care era adus la Casa Domnului n‑a fost folosit pentru confecționarea ligheanelor de argint, a mucarnițelor, a cupelor, a trâmbițelor și nici pentru achiziționarea vreunui vas de aur sau de argint pentru Casa Domnului, 14ci cu el au fost plătiți cei ce făceau lucrarea la restaurarea Casei Domnului. 15Nu se cerea socoteală oamenilor cărora li se încredința argintul pentru a plăti lucrătorii, fiindcă lucrau cu credincioșie. 16Argintul de la jertfele pentru vină și argintul de la jertfele pentru păcat nu era adus la Casa Domnului, ci era pentru preoți.

17În vremea aceea, Hazael, regele Aramului, s‑a suit și a luptat împotriva Gatului și l‑a capturat. Apoi și‑a îndreptat fața ca să se suie împotriva Ierusalimului. 18Dar Ioaș, regele lui Iuda, a luat toate lucrurile sfinte care au fost închinate18 Lit.: sfințite. Verbul poate avea sensul de a pune pe cineva/ceva într‑o stare specială (fizic sau spiritual), a consacra, a pune deoparte pentru Dumnezeu (uneori printr‑un ritual de ungere cu ulei sau sânge, spălare și/sau rugăciune ori declarație publică). Domnului de către înaintașii lui, regii lui Iuda, și anume de Iehoșafat, de Iehoram și de Ahazia, și tot aurul care se afla în vistieria Casei Domnului și în palatul regelui și le‑a trimis lui Hazael, regele Aramului, care nu a mai înaintat împotriva Ierusalimului.
19Celelalte fapte ale lui Ioaș și tot ce a făcut el, nu sunt scrise oare în „Cartea cronicilor regilor lui Iuda“? 20Slujitorii lui s‑au ridicat și au uneltit împotriva lui la Bet‑Milo, pe drumul care coboară spre Sila20 Probabil un drum pietruit, care cobora din Cetatea lui David.. 21Iozabad, fiul lui Șimat, și Iehozabad, fiul lui Șomer, slujitorii săi, l‑au lovit, iar el a murit. L‑au înmormântat alături de părinții săi, în Cetatea lui David. Și în locul lui a domnit fiul său Amația.
Joash repairs the temple
In Hebrew texts 12:1-21 is numbered 12:2-22 1In the seventh year of Jehu, Joash12:1 Hebrew Jehoash, a variant of Joash; also in verses 2, 4, 6, 7 and 18 became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem for forty years. His mother’s name was Zibiah; she was from Beersheba. 2Joash did what was right in the eyes of the Lord all the years Jehoiada the priest instructed him. 3The high places, however, were not removed; the people continued to offer sacrifices and burn incense there.
4Joash said to the priests, ‘Collect all the money that is brought as sacred offerings to the temple of the Lord – the money collected in the census, the money received from personal vows and the money brought voluntarily to the temple. 5Let every priest receive the money from one of the treasurers, then use it to repair whatever damage is found in the temple.’
6But by the twenty-third year of King Joash the priests still had not repaired the temple. 7Therefore King Joash summoned Jehoiada the priest and the other priests and asked them, ‘Why aren’t you repairing the damage done to the temple? Take no more money from your treasurers, but hand it over for repairing the temple.’ 8The priests agreed that they would not collect any more money from the people and that they would not repair the temple themselves.
9Jehoiada the priest took a chest and bored a hole in its lid. He placed it beside the altar, on the right side as one enters the temple of the Lord. The priests who guarded the entrance put into the chest all the money that was brought to the temple of the Lord. 10Whenever they saw that there was a large amount of money in the chest, the royal secretary and the high priest came, counted the money that had been brought into the temple of the Lord and put it into bags. 11When the amount had been determined, they gave the money to the men appointed to supervise the work on the temple. With it they paid those who worked on the temple of the Lord – the carpenters and builders, 12the masons and stonecutters. They purchased timber and blocks of dressed stone for the repair of the temple of the Lord, and met all the other expenses of restoring the temple.
13The money brought into the temple was not spent for making silver basins, wick trimmers, sprinkling bowls, trumpets or any other articles of gold or silver for the temple of the Lord; 14it was paid to the workers, who used it to repair the temple. 15They did not require an accounting from those to whom they gave the money to pay the workers, because they acted with complete honesty. 16The money from the guilt offerings and sin offerings12:16 Or purification offerings was not brought into the temple of the Lord; it belonged to the priests.
17About this time Hazael king of Aram went up and attacked Gath and captured it. Then he turned to attack Jerusalem. 18But Joash king of Judah took all the sacred objects dedicated by his predecessors – Jehoshaphat, Jehoram and Ahaziah, the kings of Judah – and the gifts he himself had dedicated and all the gold found in the treasuries of the temple of the Lord and of the royal palace, and he sent them to Hazael king of Aram, who then withdrew from Jerusalem.
19As for the other events of the reign of Joash, and all he did, are they not written in the book of the annals of the kings of Judah? 20His officials conspired against him and assassinated him at Beth Millo, on the road down to Silla. 21The officials who murdered him were Jozabad son of Shimeath and Jehozabad son of Shomer. He died and was buried with his ancestors in the City of David. And Amaziah his son succeeded him as king.
