Complotul lui Iehoiada
(2 Regi 11:4-20)
1În cel de‑al șaptelea an, Iehoiada a prins curaj și a făcut un legământ cu căpeteniile peste sute: cu Azaria, fiul lui Ieroham, cu Ismael, fiul lui Iehohanan, cu Azaria, fiul lui Obed, cu Maaseia, fiul lui Adaia, și cu Elișafat, fiul lui Zicri. 2Ei au străbătut țara lui Iuda, i‑au strâns pe leviții din toate cetățile lui Iuda și pe căpeteniile familiilor lui Israel și au venit la Ierusalim. 3Întreaga adunare a încheiat un legământ cu regele în Casa lui Dumnezeu. Iehoiada le‑a zis: „Iată‑l pe fiul regelui! El va domni, așa cum a promis Domnul cu privire la urmașii lui David. 4Prin urmare, iată care este lucrul pe care trebuie să‑l faceți: o treime din preoții și leviții care vor intra în slujbă în ziua de Sabat să stea de pază la intrări, 5o treime la palatul regelui și o altă treime la Poarta Temeliei, iar tot poporul să vină în curțile Casei Domnului. 6Nimeni să nu intre în Casa Domnului, în afară de preoții și leviții care trebuie să slujească. Ei vor putea să intre pentru că sunt sfinți. Toți ceilalți din popor însă să păzească îndatorirea dată de Domnul. 7Leviții vor trebui să stea împrejurul regelui, fiecare om cu arma în mână. Oricine va intra în Casă, să fie omorât. Stați aproape de rege când va intra și când va ieși!7 Sau: Supravegheați orice mișcare a regelui!“
8Leviții și toți cei din Iuda au făcut întocmai cum le‑a poruncit preotul Iehoiada. Prin urmare, și‑au luat fiecare oamenii, atât pe cei care intrau în slujbă în ziua de Sabat, cât și pe cei care ieșeau de la slujbă în ziua de Sabat, căci preotul Iehoiada nu dăduse drumul niciunei cete. 9Apoi preotul Iehoiada le‑a dat căpeteniilor peste sute sulițele și scuturile cele mari și cele mici, care aparținuseră regelui David și care erau în Casa lui Dumnezeu. 10A așezat tot poporul, pe fiecare cu arma în mână, de jur împrejurul regelui, din partea dreaptă a Casei, până în partea stângă a Casei, aproape de altar și de Casă. 11Atunci l‑au adus pe fiul regelui, i‑au pus coroana pe cap și i‑au înmânat Mărturia11 Copia Legii.. Iehoiada și fiii lui l‑au proclamat rege și l‑au uns, strigând: „Trăiască regele!“
12Când a auzit Atalia vuietul poporului care alerga și îl lăuda pe rege, a venit spre mulțimea de la Casa Domnului. 13S‑a uitat și iată că regele stătea lângă stâlpul său, la intrare. Căpeteniile și trâmbițașii erau lângă rege și tot poporul țării se bucura și suna din trâmbițe, iar cântăreții cântau cântări de laudă cu instrumentele lor muzicale. Atunci Atalia și‑a sfâșiat hainele și a strigat: „Trădare! Trădare!“ 14Preotul Iehoiada a trimis căpeteniile peste sute, care conduceau armata, și le‑a zis: „Scoateți‑o afară dintre rânduri și oricine o va urma să fie omorât cu sabia!“ Căci preotul zisese: „Să n‑o omorâți în Casa Domnului!“ 15Au pus mâna pe ea în momentul în care trecea prin intrarea în palatul regelui, intrarea de la Poarta Cailor, și au omorât‑o acolo.
16Iehoiada a încheiat un legământ între el, pe de o parte, și popor și rege, pe de altă parte, potrivit căruia ei vor fi poporul Domnului. 17Tot poporul s‑a dus la templul lui Baal și l‑a dărâmat. Ei au sfărâmat altarele lui și chipurile lui, iar pe Matan, preotul lui Baal, l‑au ucis în fața altarelor. 18Apoi Iehoiada a încredințat responsabilitatea peste Casa Domnului în mâna preoților leviți pe care‑i repartizase David la Casa Domnului, ca să aducă Domnului arderile‑de‑tot, potrivit cu ceea ce este scris în Legea lui Moise, în mijlocul bucuriei și a cântării, după rânduiala lui David. 19El a pus portari la ușile Casei Domnului, astfel încât să nu intre nimeni necurat din vreo pricină. 20După aceea, Iehoiada a luat cu el căpeteniile peste sute, nobilii, conducătorii poporului și tot poporul țării. Aceștia l‑au coborât pe rege de la Casa Domnului, au venit la palatul regelui prin Poarta de Sus și l‑au așezat pe rege pe tronul regal. 21Și tot poporul țării s‑a bucurat, iar cetatea s‑a liniștit pentru că Atalia fusese omorâtă cu sabia.
1And in the seventh year Jehoiada strengthened himself, and took the captains of hundreds, Azariah the son of Jeroham, and Ishmael the son of Jehohanan, and Azariah the son of Obed, and Maaseiah the son of Adaiah, and Elishaphat the son of Zichri, into covenant with him. 2And they went about in Judah, and gathered the Levites out of all the cities of Judah, and the chief of the fathers of Israel, and they came to Jerusalem. 3And all the congregation made a covenant with the king in the house of God. And he said unto them, Behold, the king’s son shall reign, as the LORD hath said of the sons of David. 4This is the thing that ye shall do; A third part of you entering on the sabbath, of the priests and of the Levites, shall be porters of the doors;23.4 doors: Heb. thresholds 5And a third part shall be at the king’s house; and a third part at the gate of the foundation: and all the people shall be in the courts of the house of the LORD. 6But let none come into the house of the LORD, save the priests, and they that minister of the Levites; they shall go in, for they are holy: but all the people shall keep the watch of the LORD. 7And the Levites shall compass the king round about, every man with his weapons in his hand; and whosoever else cometh into the house, he shall be put to death: but be ye with the king when he cometh in, and when he goeth out. 8So the Levites and all Judah did according to all things that Jehoiada the priest had commanded, and took every man his men that were to come in on the sabbath, with them that were to go out on the sabbath: for Jehoiada the priest dismissed not the courses. 9Moreover Jehoiada the priest delivered to the captains of hundreds spears, and bucklers, and shields, that had been king David’s, which were in the house of God. 10And he set all the people, every man having his weapon in his hand, from the right side of the temple to the left side of the temple, along by the altar and the temple, by the king round about.23.10 side: Heb. shoulder23.10 temple: Heb. house 11Then they brought out the king’s son, and put upon him the crown, and gave him the testimony, and made him king. 12¶ Now when Athaliah heard the noise of the people running and praising the king, she came to the people into the house of the LORD: 13And she looked, and, behold, the king stood at his pillar at the entering in, and the princes and the trumpets by the king: and all the people of the land rejoiced, and sounded with trumpets, also the singers with instruments of musick, and such as taught to sing praise. Then Athaliah rent her clothes, and said, Treason, Treason.23.13 Treason: Heb. Conspiracy 14Then Jehoiada the priest brought out the captains of hundreds that were set over the host, and said unto them, Have her forth of the ranges: and whoso followeth her, let him be slain with the sword. For the priest said, Slay her not in the house of the LORD. 15So they laid hands on her; and when she was come to the entering of the horse gate by the king’s house, they slew her there.
16¶ And Jehoiada made a covenant between him, and between all the people, and between the king, that they should be the LORD’s people. 17Then all the people went to the house of Baal, and brake it down, and brake his altars and his images in pieces, and slew Mattan the priest of Baal before the altars. 18Also Jehoiada appointed the offices of the house of the LORD by the hand of the priests the Levites, whom David had distributed in the house of the LORD, to offer the burnt offerings of the LORD, as it is written in the law of Moses, with rejoicing and with singing, as it was ordained by David.23.18 as it was…: Heb. by the hands of David 19And he set the porters at the gates of the house of the LORD, that none which was unclean in any thing should enter in. 20And he took the captains of hundreds, and the nobles, and the governors of the people, and all the people of the land, and brought down the king from the house of the LORD: and they came through the high gate into the king’s house, and set the king upon the throne of the kingdom. 21And all the people of the land rejoiced: and the city was quiet, after that they had slain Athaliah with the sword.
