1Iehoșafat a adormit alături de părinții săi și a fost înmormântat alături de părinții săi, în Cetatea lui David, iar în locul lui a domnit fiul său Iehoram.
Domnia lui Iehoram peste Iuda
(2 Regi 8:16-24)
2Frații săi, fii ai lui Iehoșafat, erau: Azaria, Iehiel, Zaharia, Azaria, Mihail și Șefatia. Toți aceștia erau fii ai lui Iehoșafat, regele lui Israel2 Adică Iuda (în multe locuri din 2 Cronici).. 3Tatăl lor le dăduse numeroase daruri în aur, argint și lucruri scumpe, precum și cetăți fortificate în Iuda, însă domnia i‑o dăduse lui Iehoram, fiindcă el era întâiul născut.
4Când a urcat pe tronul regatului tatălui său și și‑a întărit domnia, Iehoram i‑a ucis cu sabia pe toți frații săi, precum și pe unii dintre conducătorii lui Israel. 5Iehoram avea treizeci și doi de ani când a devenit rege și a domnit la Ierusalim timp de opt ani. 6El a umblat pe calea regilor lui Israel, făcând ce este rău în ochii Domnului, așa cum a făcut familia lui Ahab, căci soția lui a fost o fiică a lui Ahab. 7Totuși, Domnul nu a dorit să distrugă Casa lui David datorită legământului încheiat cu David, potrivit căruia El îi promisese că‑i va da pentru totdeauna o lumină lui și urmașilor lui.
8În zilele lui Iehoram, Edom s‑a răsculat împotriva stăpânirii lui Iuda și și‑a pus propriul său rege. 9Atunci Iehoram a trecut în Țair împreună cu conducătorii lui și cu toate carele lui. El s‑a sculat noaptea și l‑a învins pe Edom, care îl înconjurase, pe el și pe conducătorii carelor. 10Edom s‑a răsculat mereu împotriva stăpânirii lui Iuda, până în ziua aceasta. Tot în acea perioadă s‑a răsculat și Libna împotriva stăpânirii lui Iuda, din cauză că Iehoram L‑a părăsit pe Domnul, Dumnezeul părinților săi. 11El a zidit înălțimi în munții lui Iuda, i‑a făcut pe locuitorii Ierusalimului să se prostitueze și i‑a dus în rătăcire pe cei din Iuda.
12I‑a sosit o scrisoare de la profetul Ilie în care se spunea astfel:
„Așa vorbește Domnul, Dumnezeul lui David, tatăl tău:
«Pentru că nu ai umblat pe căile tatălui tău, Iehoșafat, nici pe căile lui Asa, regele lui Iuda, 13ci ai umblat pe căile regilor lui Israel și i‑ai făcut pe cei din Iuda și pe locuitorii Ierusalimului să se prostitueze, așa cum a făcut familia lui Ahab, și pentru că i‑ai ucis pe frații tăi, fiii tatălui tău, care erau mai buni decât tine, 14iată că Domnul va lovi cu o mare urgie poporul tău, fiii tăi, soțiile tale și toate bunurile tale. 15Iar pe tine te va lovi cu o boală cumplită, o boală de măruntaie. Boala se va agrava zi de zi, până când măruntaiele îți vor ieși afară.»“
16Domnul a stârnit împotriva lui Iehoram duhul filistenilor și al arabilor care locuiau în vecinătatea cușiților16 Vezi nota de la 12:3.. 17Aceștia s‑au suit împotriva lui Iuda, au pătruns în el, și au capturat atât bunurile găsite în palatul regelui, cât și pe fiii și pe soțiile acestuia, nelăsându‑i niciun fiu, în afară de Ahazia, cel mai mic dintre fiii săi. 18După toate acestea, Domnul l‑a lovit cu o boală de măruntaie pentru care nu exista leac. 19Ea s‑a agravat zi de zi, până când, la sfârșitul a doi ani de suferință, i‑au ieșit măruntaiele afară din cauza bolii și a murit în chinuri cumplite. Poporul său n‑a făcut foc în cinstea lui, așa cum făcuseră părinților lui.
20Iehoram era în vârstă de treizeci și doi de ani când a devenit rege și a domnit la Ierusalim timp de opt ani. El s‑a dus fără să fi fost regretat. L‑au înmormântat în Cetatea lui David, dar nu în mormintele regilor.
1Now Jehoshaphat slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the city of David. And Jehoram his son reigned in his stead. 2And he had brethren the sons of Jehoshaphat, Azariah, and Jehiel, and Zechariah, and Azariah, and Michael, and Shephatiah: all these were the sons of Jehoshaphat king of Israel. 3And their father gave them great gifts of silver, and of gold, and of precious things, with fenced cities in Judah: but the kingdom gave he to Jehoram; because he was the firstborn. 4Now when Jehoram was risen up to the kingdom of his father, he strengthened himself, and slew all his brethren with the sword, and divers also of the princes of Israel.
5¶ Jehoram was thirty and two years old when he began to reign, and he reigned eight years in Jerusalem. 6And he walked in the way of the kings of Israel, like as did the house of Ahab: for he had the daughter of Ahab to wife: and he wrought that which was evil in the eyes of the LORD. 7Howbeit the LORD would not destroy the house of David, because of the covenant that he had made with David, and as he promised to give a light to him and to his sons for ever.21.7 light: Heb. lamp, or, candle
8¶ In his days the Edomites revolted from under the dominion of Judah, and made themselves a king.21.8 dominion: Heb. hand 9Then Jehoram went forth with his princes, and all his chariots with him: and he rose up by night, and smote the Edomites which compassed him in, and the captains of the chariots. 10So the Edomites revolted from under the hand of Judah unto this day. The same time also did Libnah revolt from under his hand; because he had forsaken the LORD God of his fathers. 11Moreover he made high places in the mountains of Judah, and caused the inhabitants of Jerusalem to commit fornication, and compelled Judah thereto.
12¶ And there came a writing to him from Elijah the prophet, saying, Thus saith the LORD God of David thy father, Because thou hast not walked in the ways of Jehoshaphat thy father, nor in the ways of Asa king of Judah, 13But hast walked in the way of the kings of Israel, and hast made Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem to go a whoring, like to the whoredoms of the house of Ahab, and also hast slain thy brethren of thy father’s house, which were better than thyself: 14Behold, with a great plague will the LORD smite thy people, and thy children, and thy wives, and all thy goods:21.14 a great…: Heb. a great stroke 15And thou shalt have great sickness by disease of thy bowels, until thy bowels fall out by reason of the sickness day by day.
16¶ Moreover the LORD stirred up against Jehoram the spirit of the Philistines, and of the Arabians, that were near the Ethiopians: 17And they came up into Judah, and brake into it, and carried away all the substance that was found in the king’s house, and his sons also, and his wives; so that there was never a son left him, save Jehoahaz, the youngest of his sons.21.17 carried…: Heb. carried captive21.17 Jehoahaz: also called, Ahaziah, or, Azariah
18¶ And after all this the LORD smote him in his bowels with an incurable disease. 19And it came to pass, that in process of time, after the end of two years, his bowels fell out by reason of his sickness: so he died of sore diseases. And his people made no burning for him, like the burning of his fathers. 20Thirty and two years old was he when he began to reign, and he reigned in Jerusalem eight years, and departed without being desired. Howbeit they buried him in the city of David, but not in the sepulchres of the kings.21.20 without…: Heb. without desire
