Împrejurările divizării regatului lui Solomon
(1 Regi 12:1-20)
1Roboam s‑a dus la Șechem, pentru că tot Israelul venise la Șechem să‑l facă rege. 2Când Ieroboam, fiul lui Nebat, a auzit lucrul acesta, se afla în Egipt, acolo unde fugise de regele Solomon. Ieroboam s‑a întors din Egipt.
3Au trimis să‑l cheme, iar Ieroboam și tot Israelul au venit și i‑au vorbit lui Roboam, zicând:
4– Tatăl tău a îngreunat jugul nostru. Acum, despovărează‑ne de slujba aspră a tatălui tău și de jugul cel greu pe care l‑a pus peste noi și‑ți vom sluji!
5El le‑a răspuns:
– Întoarceți‑vă la mine peste trei zile.
Și poporul a plecat. 6Regele Roboam s‑a sfătuit cu bătrânii care i‑au slujit tatălui său, Solomon, în timpul vieții acestuia, întrebându‑i:
– Ce mă sfătuiți să răspund acestui popor?
7Ei i‑au răspuns:
– Dacă vei fi bun cu poporul acesta și îngăduitor, dacă le vei răspunde prin cuvinte plăcute, ei vor fi slujitorii tăi toată viața lor.
8Însă Roboam n‑a luat în seamă sfatul pe care i l‑au dat bătrânii, ci a cerut și sfatul tinerilor cu care a copilărit și care‑i slujeau. 9El i‑a întrebat:
– Ce mă sfătuiți? Cum să răspundem acestui popor care mi‑a cerut să‑l despovărez de jugul pe care tatăl meu l‑a pus peste el?
10Tinerii, care copilăriseră împreună cu el, i‑au răspuns:
– Poporului, care ți‑a zis: „Tatăl tău ne‑a îngreunat jugul, însă tu să‑l iei de peste noi“, să‑i spui astfel: „Degetul meu cel mic este mai gros decât coapsele tatălui meu! 11Tatăl meu a pus un jug greu peste voi, dar eu voi adăuga mai mult la jugul vostru. Tatăl meu v‑a pedepsit cu bice, dar eu vă voi pedepsi cu scorpioni.“
12Ieroboam, însoțit de tot poporul, a venit la Roboam a treia zi, după cum le poruncise regele când le zisese: „Întoarceți‑vă la mine peste trei zile!“ 13Regele le‑a răspuns aspru.
Regele Roboam n‑a luat în seamă sfatul bătrânilor 14și le‑a vorbit potrivit sfatului tinerilor, zicând:
– Tatăl meu v‑a îngreunat jugul, dar eu voi adăuga mai mult la el! Tatăl meu v‑a pedepsit cu bice, dar eu vă voi pedepsi cu scorpioni!
15Astfel regele n‑a ascultat de popor, fiindcă această întorsătură a lucrurilor venea de la Dumnezeu, pentru ca Domnul să‑Și împlinească cuvântul pe care‑l rostise cu privire la Ieroboam, fiul lui Nebat, prin șilonitul Ahia.
16Când tot Israelul a văzut că regele nu l‑a ascultat, poporul i‑a răspuns regelui, zicând:
– Ce parte avem noi în David?
N‑avem nicio moștenire în fiul lui Ișai.
La corturile tale, Israel!
Vezi‑ți de Casa ta, David!
Și tot Israelul a plecat acasă. 17Roboam însă a continuat să domnească peste fiii lui Israel care locuiau în cetățile lui Iuda.
18Regele Roboam l‑a trimis la ei pe Adoniram, care era mai mare peste oamenii de corvoadă, dar fiii lui Israel l‑au lovit cu pietre, și el a murit. Atunci regele Roboam s‑a grăbit să se urce în car ca să fugă la Ierusalim. 19Așa s‑a răzvrătit Israel împotriva Casei lui David și așa a și rămas până în ziua aceasta.
1And Rehoboam went to Shechem: for to Shechem were all Israel come to make him king. 2And it came to pass, when Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who was in Egypt, whither he had fled from the presence of Solomon the king, heard it, that Jeroboam returned out of Egypt. 3And they sent and called him. So Jeroboam and all Israel came and spake to Rehoboam, saying, 4Thy father made our yoke grievous: now therefore ease thou somewhat the grievous servitude of thy father, and his heavy yoke that he put upon us, and we will serve thee. 5And he said unto them, Come again unto me after three days. And the people departed.
6¶ And king Rehoboam took counsel with the old men that had stood before Solomon his father while he yet lived, saying, What counsel give ye me to return answer to this people? 7And they spake unto him, saying, If thou be kind to this people, and please them, and speak good words to them, they will be thy servants for ever. 8But he forsook the counsel which the old men gave him, and took counsel with the young men that were brought up with him, that stood before him. 9And he said unto them, What advice give ye that we may return answer to this people, which have spoken to me, saying, Ease somewhat the yoke that thy father did put upon us? 10And the young men that were brought up with him spake unto him, saying, Thus shalt thou answer the people that spake unto thee, saying, Thy father made our yoke heavy, but make thou it somewhat lighter for us; thus shalt thou say unto them, My little finger shall be thicker than my father’s loins. 11For whereas my father put a heavy yoke upon you, I will put more to your yoke: my father chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.10.11 my father put: Heb. my father laded
12So Jeroboam and all the people came to Rehoboam on the third day, as the king bade, saying, Come again to me on the third day. 13And the king answered them roughly; and king Rehoboam forsook the counsel of the old men, 14And answered them after the advice of the young men, saying, My father made your yoke heavy, but I will add thereto: my father chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions. 15So the king hearkened not unto the people: for the cause was of God, that the LORD might perform his word, which he spake by the hand of Ahijah the Shilonite to Jeroboam the son of Nebat.
16¶ And when all Israel saw that the king would not hearken unto them, the people answered the king, saying, What portion have we in David? and we have none inheritance in the son of Jesse: every man to your tents, O Israel: and now, David, see to thine own house. So all Israel went to their tents. 17But as for the children of Israel that dwelt in the cities of Judah, Rehoboam reigned over them. 18Then king Rehoboam sent Hadoram that was over the tribute; and the children of Israel stoned him with stones, that he died. But king Rehoboam made speed to get him up to his chariot, to flee to Jerusalem.10.18 made speed: Heb. strengthened himself 19And Israel rebelled against the house of David unto this day.
