1Зато, о, Јове, молим те чуј моја казивања
и све речи моје послушај!
2Молим те, види, јер отварам уста своја
да мој језик проговори.
3Из честитости мога срца су речи моје
и по знању моја ће уста искрено да говоре.
4Елем, Божији Дух ме је саздао,
дах Свемоћнога живот ми је дао.
5Па ако си кадар, ти ми одговори;
спреми се, па пред мене стани.
6Знај, и ја сам пред Богом попут тебе;
и ја сам од иловаче обликован.
7Нека те ништа у мени ужасно не плаши,
од мене нећеш бити притиснут тешко.
8Дакле, говорио си на моје уши,
речи сам твоје јасно чуо:
9’Ја сам чист, без греха сам и без мане!
У мени кривице нема!
10Али, ето, Бог задевицу са мном тражи,
гледа ме ко душманина свога.
11Ноге моје у окове ставља
па надгледа све путеве моје.’
12Али ја ћу да ти кажем – ниси у праву –
јер Бог је од човека већи.
13Зашто се убеђујеш с Богом
када он не одговара на сваку човекову реч?
14Јер Бог говори једном овако, други пут онако –
али нико за то не пази –
15у сну, у виђењу ноћном,
када дубок сан на људе пада
док спавају на постељи.
16Тада он даје објаву људима,
упозорава их опоменама;
17да би човека одвратио од недела
и сакрио охолост од њега.
18Он му душу чува од раке,
живот његов од мача што сече.
19Човека болом кори на постељи његовој,
без престанка жигају га кости.
20Живот му се гади хлеба,
а душа омиљеног јела.
21Наочиглед тело му пропада,
још му штрче кости огољене.
22Душа му је све ближа раки,
а живот веснику смрти.
23Кад би било посланика,
посредника једног од хиљаду,
да човеку јави пут његове честитости,
24кад би му се Бог смиловао, па рекао:
’Спасите га од пада у раку!
Нашао сам откуп!’;
25тад би му се ко детету подмладило тело,
вратио би се у дане младалачке снаге.
26Тад ће се молити Богу и он ће га прихватити,
гледаће лице његово и клицаће.
Бог ће обновити човеку праведност његову.
27А он погледаће људе и казаће:
’Грешио сам, правду извртао,
али ми није враћено по мери!
28Он је душу моју откупио од пада у раку,
да ми живот светла види!’
29Ето, све ово Бог чини двапут,
трипут са човеком;
30да му душу из раке поврати
и обасја светлошћу живота.
31Јове! Пази, саслушај ме!
Ти ћути, а ја ћу да причам.
32Реци ако имаш речи да ми узвратиш,
јер бих хтео да те оправдам.
33Ако немаш, ти саслушај мене.
Ћути, да те мудрошћу поучим.“

8Surely thou hast spoken in mine hearing, and I have heard the voice of thy words, saying,33.8 hearing: Heb. ears 9I am clean without transgression, I am innocent; neither is there iniquity in me. 10Behold, he findeth occasions against me, he counteth me for his enemy, 11He putteth my feet in the stocks, he marketh all my paths. 12Behold, in this thou art not just: I will answer thee, that God is greater than man. 13Why dost thou strive against him? for he giveth not account of any of his matters.33.13 he giveth…: Heb. he answereth not
14For God speaketh once, yea twice, yet man perceiveth it not. 15In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falleth upon men, in slumberings upon the bed; 16Then he openeth the ears of men, and sealeth their instruction,33.16 he…: Heb. he revealeth, or, uncovereth 17That he may withdraw man from his purpose, and hide pride from man.33.17 purpose: Heb. work 18He keepeth back his soul from the pit, and his life from perishing by the sword.33.18 from perishing: Heb. from passing

29Lo, all these things worketh God oftentimes with man,33.29 oftentimes: Heb. twice and thrice 30To bring back his soul from the pit, to be enlightened with the light of the living. 31Mark well, O Job, hearken unto me: hold thy peace, and I will speak. 32If thou hast any thing to say, answer me: speak, for I desire to justify thee. 33If not, hearken unto me: hold thy peace, and I shall teach thee wisdom.
