Psalm 81In Hebrew texts 81:1-16 is numbered 81:2-17.

1Sing for joy to God our strength;
shout aloud to the God of Jacob!
2Begin the music, strike the tambourine,
play the melodious harp and lyre.
3Sound the ram’s horn at the New Moon,
and when the moon is full, on the day of our Feast;
4this is a decree for Israel,
an ordinance of the God of Jacob.
5When God went out against Egypt,
he established it as a statute for Joseph.
I heard an unknown voice say:
6‘I removed the burden from their shoulders;
their hands were set free from the basket.
7In your distress you called and I rescued you,
I answered you out of a thundercloud;
I tested you at the waters of Meribah.81:7 The Hebrew has Selah (a word of uncertain meaning) here.
8Hear me, my people, and I will warn you –
if you would only listen to me, Israel!
9You shall have no foreign god among you;
you shall not worship any god other than me.
10I am the Lord your God,
who brought you up out of Egypt.
Open wide your mouth and I will fill it.
11‘But my people would not listen to me;
Israel would not submit to me.
12So I gave them over to their stubborn hearts
to follow their own devices.
13‘If my people would only listen to me,
if Israel would only follow my ways,
14how quickly I would subdue their enemies
and turn my hand against their foes!
15Those who hate the Lord would cringe before him,
and their punishment would last for ever.
16But you would be fed with the finest of wheat;
with honey from the rock I would satisfy you.’

2Jubelt unserem Gott zu, stark und mächtig ist er!
Singt laut vor Freude über den Gott Jakobs!
3Stimmt Lieder an und schlagt die Pauken!
Lasst die Saiten von Harfe und Laute erklingen!
4Stoßt zum Neumond in das Horn
und blast es wieder zum Vollmond, dem Tag unseres Festes!
5Dies ist für Israel eine bindende Ordnung,
ein Gesetz des Gottes Jakobs.
6Er gab es dem Volk Gottes,
als er gegen die Ägypter kämpfte.
Da! Ich höre eine Stimme, die mir bisher unbekannt war:
7»Ich habe deine Schultern von der Last befreit,
den schweren Tragekorb habe ich dir abgenommen.
8Als du in der Not zu mir schriest, rettete ich dich.
Ich antwortete dir aus der Gewitterwolke,
in der ich mich verborgen hielt.
In Meriba prüfte ich dein Vertrauen zu mir,
als es dort in der Wüste kein Wasser mehr gab.
9Höre, mein Volk; lass dich warnen, Israel!
Wenn du doch auf mich hören würdest!
10Du sollst keine anderen Götter neben mir haben,
wie sie bei fremden Völkern verehrt werden –
bete solche Götzen nicht an!
11Denn ich bin der Herr, dein Gott,
ich habe dich aus Ägypten herausgebracht.
Von mir sollst du alles erwarten,
und ich werde dir geben, was du brauchst!81,11 Wörtlich: Mache deinen Mund weit auf, und ich will ihn füllen.
12Aber mein Volk hat nicht auf mich gehört,
sie haben nicht mit sich reden lassen.
13Da überließ ich sie ihrer Starrköpfigkeit,
und sie machten, was sie wollten.
14Wenn doch mein Volk auf mich hören wollte!
Wenn doch Israel nach meinen Geboten lebte!
15Dann würde ich seine Feinde sofort in die Knie zwingen
und alle niederwerfen, die Israel unterdrücken.«
16Ja, alle, die den Herrn hassen, müssten sich ihm ergeben,
und ihre Strafe hätte kein Ende.
17Israel aber würde er mit dem besten Weizen versorgen
und mit Honig aus den Bergen sättigen.
