Bildad
1Then Bildad the Shuhite replied:
2‘Dominion and awe belong to God;
he establishes order in the heights of heaven.
3Can his forces be numbered?
On whom does his light not rise?
4How then can a mortal be righteous before God?
How can one born of woman be pure?
5If even the moon is not bright
and the stars are not pure in his eyes,
6how much less a mortal, who is but a maggot –
a human being, who is only a worm!’
Bildads reactie
1Bildad uit Suach antwoordde Job:
2‘God is machtig en ontzagwekkend. Hij handhaaft de vrede in de hemel.
3Wie kan zijn legers tellen? Er is geen plek waar zijn licht niet schijnt.
4Hoe kan een gewone sterveling voor God gaan staan en beweren dat hij rechtvaardig is? Wie op aarde kan in ernst zeggen dat hij rein is?
5De heerlijkheid van God is zo groot dat zelfs de maan en de sterren vergeleken bij Hem in het niet vallen.
6Hoeveel minder is dan de mens! Die is immers slechts een worm in zijn ogen!’
