Promise of restoration
1While Jeremiah was still confined in the courtyard of the guard, the word of the Lord came to him a second time: 2‘This is what the Lord says, he who made the earth, the Lord who formed it and established it – the Lord is his name: 3“Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.” 4For this is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says about the houses in this city and the royal palaces of Judah that have been torn down to be used against the siege ramps and the sword 5in the fight with the Babylonians33:5 Or Chaldeans: “They will be filled with the dead bodies of the people I will slay in my anger and wrath. I will hide my face from this city because of all its wickedness.
6‘ “Nevertheless, I will bring health and healing to it; I will heal my people and will let them enjoy abundant peace and security. 7I will bring Judah and Israel back from captivity33:7 Or will restore the fortunes of Judah and Israel and will rebuild them as they were before. 8I will cleanse them from all the sin they have committed against me and will forgive all their sins of rebellion against me. 9Then this city will bring me renown, joy, praise and honour before all nations on earth that hear of all the good things I do for it; and they will be in awe and will tremble at the abundant prosperity and peace I provide for it.”
10‘This is what the Lord says: “You say about this place, ‘It is a desolate waste, without people or animals.’ Yet in the towns of Judah and the streets of Jerusalem that are deserted, inhabited by neither people nor animals, there will be heard once more 11the sounds of joy and gladness, the voices of bride and bridegroom, and the voices of those who bring thank-offerings to the house of the Lord, saying,
‘Give thanks to the Lord Almighty,
for the Lord is good;
his love endures for ever.’
For I will restore the fortunes of the land as they were before,” says the Lord.
12‘This is what the Lord Almighty says: “In this place, desolate and without people or animals – in all its towns there will again be pastures for shepherds to rest their flocks. 13In the towns of the hill country, of the western foothills and of the Negev, in the territory of Benjamin, in the villages around Jerusalem and in the towns of Judah, flocks will again pass under the hand of the one who counts them,” says the Lord.
14‘ “The days are coming,” declares the Lord, “when I will fulfil the good promise I made to the people of Israel and Judah.
15‘ “In those days and at that time
I will make a righteous Branch sprout from David’s line;
he will do what is just and right in the land.
16In those days Judah will be saved
and Jerusalem will live in safety.
This is the name by which it33:16 Or he will be called:
The Lord Our Righteous Saviour.”
17For this is what the Lord says: “David will never fail to have a man to sit on the throne of Israel, 18nor will the Levitical priests ever fail to have a man to stand before me continually to offer burnt offerings, to burn grain offerings and to present sacrifices.” ’
19The word of the Lord came to Jeremiah: 20‘This is what the Lord says: “If you can break my covenant with the day and my covenant with the night, so that day and night no longer come at their appointed time, 21then my covenant with David my servant – and my covenant with the Levites who are priests ministering before me – can be broken and David will no longer have a descendant to reign on his throne. 22I will make the descendants of David my servant and the Levites who minister before me as countless as the stars in the sky and as measureless as the sand on the seashore.” ’
23The word of the Lord came to Jeremiah: 24‘Have you not noticed that these people are saying, “The Lord has rejected the two kingdoms33:24 Or families he chose”? So they despise my people and no longer regard them as a nation. 25This is what the Lord says: “If I have not made my covenant with day and night and established the laws of heaven and earth, 26then I will reject the descendants of Jacob and David my servant and will not choose one of his sons to rule over the descendants of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. For I will restore their fortunes33:26 Or will bring them back from captivity and have compassion on them.” ’
Mga Pangakong Pagpapala
1Habang si Jeremias ay naroon pa sa kulungan sa himpilan ng mga guwardya ng palasyo, nagsalita ang Panginoon sa kanya sa pangalawang beses. 2Ito ang sinasabi ng Panginoong lumikha ng mundo at naghugis nito – Panginoon ang pangalan niya:
3“Tumawag ka sa akin at sasagutin kita, at ipahahayag ko sa iyo ang mga kahanga-hanga at mahihiwagang bagay na hindi mo pa alam. 4Sapagkat ako, ang Panginoon, ang Dios ng Israel, ay nagsasabi: Kahit giniba na ang mga bahay sa Jerusalem at ang palasyo ng hari ng Juda para gawing mga pampatibay ng pader upang hindi ito mapasok ng mga kaaway, 5papasukin pa rin ito ng mga taga-Babilonia. Maraming mamamatay sa lungsod na ito dahil wawasakin ko ito sa tindi ng galit ko sa inyo. Itatakwil ko ang lungsod na ito dahil sa kasamaan nito.
6“Pero darating ang araw na pagagalingin ko ang lungsod na ito at ang mga mamamayan nito. At mamumuhay silang may kaunlaran at kapayapaan. 7Pababalikin ko ang mga taga-Israel at taga-Juda mula sa pagkakabihag33:7 Tingnan ang footnote sa 29:14., at itatayo ko ulit ang lungsod nila katulad noon. 8Lilinisin at papatawarin ko sila sa lahat ng kasalanang ginawa nila sa akin. 9At kapag nangyari ito, ang lungsod ng Jerusalem ay magbibigay sa akin ng kadakilaan, kagalakan at kapurihan. At ang bawat bansa sa daigdig ay manginginig sa takot kapag nabalitaan nila ang mga kabutihan, kaunlaran at kapayapaan na ipinagkaloob ko sa lungsod na ito.”
10Sinabi pa ng Panginoon, “Sinasabi ninyong malungkot at walang tao at mga hayop ang Juda at Jerusalem. Pero darating ang araw na muling mapapakinggan sa mga lugar na ito ang mga kasayahan at kagalakan. 11Muling maririnig ang kagalakan ng mga bagong kasal, at ng mga taong nagdadala ng mga handog ng pasasalamat sa templo ng Panginoon. Sasabihin nila, ‘Magpasalamat tayo sa Panginoong Makapangyarihan dahil napakabuti niya. Ang pagmamahal niyaʼy walang hanggan.’ Talagang magsasaya ang mga tao dahil ibabalik ko ang mabuting kalagayan sa lupaing ito katulad noong una. Ako, ang Panginoon, ang nagsasabi nito.”
12Sinabi pa ng Panginoong Makapangyarihan, “Kahit na mapanglaw ang lupaing ito ngayon at walang tao at hayop, darating ang araw na magkakaroon ng mga pastulan sa lahat ng bayan na pagdadalhan ng mga pastol ng kanilang mga kawan. 13Muling dadami ang kawan nila sa mga bayan sa kabundukan, sa mga kaburulan sa kanluran, sa Negev, sa lupain ng Benjamin, sa mga lugar na nakapalibot sa Jerusalem at sa mga bayan ng Juda. Ako, ang Panginoon, ang nagsasabi nito.”
14Sinabi pa ng Panginoon, “Darating ang araw na tutuparin ko ang mga kabutihang ipinangako ko sa mga mamamayan ng Israel. 15Sa panahong iyon, pamamahalain ko ang haring matuwid na mula sa angkan ni David. Paiiralin niya ang katarungan at katuwiran sa buong lupain. 16At sa panahon ding iyon maliligtas ang mga taga-Juda at mamumuhay nang payapa ang mga taga-Jerusalem. Ang Jerusalem ay tatawaging, ‘Ang Panginoon ang Ating Katuwiran.’ ”33:16 Katuwiran: o, Kaligtasan; o, Tagumpay.
17Sinabi pa ng Panginoon, “Si David ay laging magkakaroon ng angkang maghahari sa mga mamamayan ng Israel. 18At palagi ring magkakaroon ng mga pari na mga Levita na maglilingkod sa akin at mag-aalay ng mga handog na sinusunog, handog na pagpaparangal, at iba pang mga handog.”
19At sinabi ng Panginoon kay Jeremias, 20“Kung paanong hindi na mababago ang kasunduan ko sa araw at sa gabi na lalabas sila sa takdang oras, 21ganyan din ang kasunduan ko kay David na lingkod ko, na palaging magkakaroon ng hari na manggagaling sa angkan niya. At ganoon din sa mga paring Levita, maglilingkod pa rin sila sa akin. 22Pararamihin ko ang mga angkan ni David at mga Levita katulad ng mga bituin sa langit at buhangin sa dalampasigan.”
23Sinabi pa ng Panginoon kay Jeremias, 24“Hindi mo ba narinig na kinukutya ng mga tao ang mga mamamayan ko? Sinasabi nila, ‘Itinakwil ng Panginoon ang dalawang kaharian na hinirang niya.’ Kaya hinahamak nila ang mga mamamayan ko at hindi na nila ito itinuturing na bansa. 25Pero sinasabi ko na hindi na mauulit ang aking kasunduan sa araw at sa gabi, at ang aking mga tuntunin na naghahari sa langit at lupa, 26mananatili rin ang aking kasunduan sa mga lahi ni Jacob at kay David na lingkod ko. Hihirang ako mula sa angkan ni David na maghahari sa mga lahi nina Abraham, Isaac at Jacob. Kahahabagan ko sila at pababalikin sa kanilang sariling lupain mula sa pagkabihag.”
